Schnider Herard Kansas visit

'Hammonds' was because of my kids' tablet, apologies... and I did have Withey mistaken for another two year player (4am after an epic baseball game). Withey turned out quite well for Kansas, even if he didn't see much pt until his junior season.

As for Mickelson -
Do you realize how long it takes to get the Arkansas out of a player? If Mick couldn't get his butt off the pine given Alexander's situation and after having been in the program for an entire season, that screams far more about Mickelson. I mean, Kansas was using Traylor often, and it wasn't pretty. But sure, knock Kansas. I'm sure you know far more about talent than anyone on their staff.

I wasn't trying to snide your program in any way. But if you can't see the differences in the four players mentioned, well ... I'm no Anne Sullivan.

It's okay. I'm just letting you know more for future reference than anything else. There's been a phenomenon the past three years that whenever a college basketball fan (almost all of them, it seems like) that isn't a Purdue fan writes something about him, they spell it "Hammonds". I don't know why so many people seem to do that, other than Hammonds is probably a more common last name than Hammons.

I'm just giving my opinion on the development of some of Purdue's recent bigs vs. that of Kansas'. I don't think there's that big of a difference of how Hammons and Haas were regarded as high school seniors compared to Mickelson and Lucas. Combined, they probably were slightly more regarded but not much more than them. I just believe that Coach Painter and staff has done a pretty good job with them and that it will continue with Swanigan and (hopefully) Herard.

What are our realistic chances at landing herard? Am I correct that he didn't even "officially" visit us? Love to land this talented kid, just wondered what the chances were.

Why? That's probably the worst program on his short list.

Lots of Mississippi State smoke. Personally, I would least like him to commit there, but that seems to be the hot pick. Good Luck Boilermakers, I'll be rooting for you guys to land him .... if not Kansas! ;)

If he wants to play against a lot of top talent in perhaps the best traditional basketball conference on the whole, the Big has to be a consideration. However, that edge may not be huge over the Big 12 and may not be that crucial. I think Purdue is a GREAT place for him, but not confident he becomes a Boiler. Wish I knew if there was any relationship with Carson through AAU in TExas.

Big 12 was pretty piss poor last year in the tournament. I think they had 8 teams make it and none made it out of the first weekend with like 6 of those being top 25 teams. They were HIGHLY overrated in the regular season.

yes, but they still had 8 and so they were respected. Make no mistake the Big Ten day in and day out from top to bottom is tough

I love when others talk schit on the Big 12. Season win % vs other p5 teams shows strength. But in the end, tourney results are all that matters. Bragging Rights.

Sorry, but no one believes MSU was the 4th best team in college bball last season.... well, except MSU fans and possibly conference homers.
I love the Big 12, but I'm sick of the lack of bragging rights.

And if I hear one more talking head swoon about Big 12 coaches and their FF accomplishments, I'm gonna lose a TV. Weber is crap. Tubby is crap. And I'm about to sell Lon too, although I think he finally does something this season.

Last year Kansas got their as$es handed to them three times, once in the tourney. I'm so effing ready for the PEllis years to be complete, or for Bill to go out and sign an effin defensive C who can stay healthy, or who's mama ain't gonna bend her kid over for a $50k LOAN. A LOAN?!?!

Herard would be a great 3/4 year player. What type of big man doesn't want to go to a school where the team is notorious for playing through their bigs?!

Both Purdue and Kansas play through their big men, both will land BIG talent when needed. So if it's not Herard, it'll just be #NEXT!!

Mississippi State? Ben Howland's there now. Remember how well he recruited at UCLA? And how'd that turn out? Just sayin'.

Herard won't decide for a while. Has a visit to Cal after Kansas. People around him are looking very critically at this. Won't make a rash decision most likely.

Also, Herard tweeted this not too long ago.

Check out @Scutt_herard's Tweet:

Normally that would be encouraging but Mississippi State isn't a big name either.

Well, it actually went pretty well for them in his first five years (three straight Final Four appearances and one national final appearance from 2006-2008). Then he had some recruits that didn't live up to their billing (Jerime Anderson, Malcolm Lee, J'Mison Morgan, etc.) plus guys that caused trouble and team chemistry problems (ex: Reeves Nelson) so they really saw both ends of the spectrum with the major highs and fairly low lows during his tenure there.

With that stated, UCLA is always going to be easier to recruit to for basketball than Mississippi State. Purdue has winning teams (above .500) on a more consistent basis than Mississippi State (look at any time-span one could choose from), so if playing somewhere where he has pretty good odds of being on teams that make "The Big Dance" is a high-priority for him, the odds probably favor the Boilers a little bit more than the Bulldogs, as of right now.

We WILL know more tomorrow. Great for Purdue if he becomes a Boiler, but no reason to think that at this time. Anyone read anything about Jabari Craig and Purdue? Is anything there?
