Should be an interesting weekend visit for Herard at Kansas. He will be visiting at the same time as 6'-10", 5 star, Marques Bolden, and 6'-10", 5 star, Harry Giles. Things might feel a little crowded with those other guys in town at the same time. And this says nothing of the recent visit of 6'-11", 5 star, Udoka Azubuike and the upcoming visit of 6'-10", 5 star, T.J. Leaf the next weekend.

Of course, what would be even better than him feeling a bit crowded is if one of these other guys just went ahead and committed before the weekend or during the weekend and Kansas shuts down Herard's recruitment. Ever the optimist...

Not that it means much but we finally got a prediction that he commits to us on his crystal ball.

Herard won't decide for a while. Has a visit to Cal after Kansas. People around him are looking very critically at this. Won't make a rash decision most likely.

Also, Herard tweeted this not too long ago.

Check out @Scutt_herard's Tweet:

Looks like he tweeted that the day before his Purdue visit. Like the mentality. We need more big time players to think this way.

In terms of who will probably utilize him the best, I think Purdue would be the winner of the finalists. California would probably be similar because Coach Martin's offensive and defensive strategies are similar to Coach Painter's but CMP does have more experience with skilled bigs in his system(s).

I disagree.....I'd rather that we get Purdue to the point where it is a destination program for big time players. I want other programs to say "oh damn, Purdue's in on this guy to".

Agree, I'd love for that to be the case. But, we've got a long long way to go before approaching that territory. Right now we need to find guys that don't need to have Duke, Kentucky, or Kansas across their chest to feel satisfied with where they are.

I'm hoping that if he's not going to pull the trigger for a few months he is able to see the way we run our O through the bigs. Landing him would give us a 5 star two years in a row and continuing to develop bigs and having tournament success could be the step we need to solidify things for years to come.

Herard is not a 5 star. Ranked #43 4 star nationally. He is still very good.

Exactly, I want Purdue to continue to get the big name recruits. I want these kids to think about Purdue when they think of college choices. We have gotten some good recruits lately so lets keep it going.

I am hoping Purdue has an awesome upcoming season and a lot of these kids think "I want to go to Purdue too and win". The 2017 class is loaded in Indiana and would be great to get them.

Not to split hairs, but he's at #34 on Rivals, and #39 on Scout.

It all depends who you look at. 247 takes a composite ranking of many different ranking sites and also gives their own. Going by just 1 ranking site is a tad foolish IMO Baca use each site holds different things in higher or lower regard.

His composite ranking is #43 4 star. Doesn't really matter. Outside the top 25 rankings are all pretty hit or miss.

No one has committed as of right now so that's a good/bad sign

Does 247 use their ranking as part of the composite ranking?

What good does that comment do for Purdue.
I think SIBoiler was just trying to be humorous, and nothing more. It often seems like IU's recruits get blown out of proportion (see Hanner Perea, etc,) and Purdue's fall once they commit to being a Boilermaker. It is just because we tend to see a little media bias from the Indianapolis area.

Painter should show how the 5 star center, Cliff Alexander, flopped last year and didn't get drafted.

If someone looks at the centers for each program in say, the last 5 years, I don't think Kansas' have developed at a significantly better rate than Purdue's. They had the Morris twins in that time period, but JaJuan Johnson ended up being named a 1st Team All-American and they did not. I guess they could point to Jeff Withey's development over the course of his career, but Purdue should be able to do the same thing in regards to A.J. Hammons and Isaac Haas. They had Joel Embiid, but he was expected to be a stud and was for the most part in his one season. As far as the current personnel goes, I would think Schnider Herard would be more impressed with how Haas and Hammons are coming along vs. that of Landen Lucas and Hunter Mickelson.

Not sure what impresses Herard, but his mentor on the other hand...............sorry if this was posted already

Maybe he has plans to make use of the new dorms much like Louisville has been accused to have done.

If we get him, we will be very good. If Kansas gets him they will be very good. Sounds like a win-win for him.

I think he's planning on making his decision within the next month, so we won't have to wait too long to see what happens.

.

Both Boilermakers were ranked substantially higher than those Jayhawks.

Landon Lucas was Kansas' plan D ((or worse)) after Tarc popped for Zona. At one time he was ranked in the 130s, but I can not remember if he was ever higher than that. At the time of final rankings, he's not listed.
Hammonds - #77, which isn't World Beater either, but incredibly better by all means.

Mick was 2011 #100 and I really hope the kid leaves it all on the court for his final season, KU will need him. Only at KU for two yrs, but so was Withey.
Haas- #71, and iirc loads of Jayhawks wanted him, but no offer came bc Kansas was heavily in Alexander/Okafor/Turner. At 7'2", kid was better than his ranking, but not better att than the other guys.

Morri were not centers, 2008 #29/49 and went pro after their jr year.
And while All-American Johnson was ranked also in 40s, he benefitted from an extra year in his program. I don't think its too much of a stretch to think Marcus could have made First Team had he played his sr season, since he made Second Team his jr year. avg'd 17/7.5

But, that's not nearly the point. Kansas usually does not keep highly rated bigs long ((looking directly at one Perry Ellis)). Not saying Purdue isn't a very realistic option for Herard, because he could do a load worse. Painter isn't a bad coach, not in the least. I just happen to think that Self is better. :)

Either way, I hope Herard ends up a stud. I tend to cheer for the could-have-beens for 'my' school. Those 3/4 year guys who aren't 5★s. The ones who want to get better and have loads of potential and the drive to work hard. Those guys make up the heart of ncaa bball.

It's spelled "Hammons".

Withey was at Kansas for four years after transferring from Arizona before he played a game there.

If Mickelson was rated #100 as a senior by at least one publication, I think it could be argued that Kansas still could have done more with him this past season relative to how Hammons has developed so far at Purdue. It was only Mickelson's first year playing for KU, but was his second season in the program after transferring from Arkansas.

Purdue is a very realistic option for Herard, especially if he expects to play college ball for at least a few years and really wants to improve during that time.

'Hammonds' was because of my kids' tablet, apologies... and I did have Withey mistaken for another two year player (4am after an epic baseball game). Withey turned out quite well for Kansas, even if he didn't see much pt until his junior season.

As for Mickelson -
Do you realize how long it takes to get the Arkansas out of a player? If Mick couldn't get his butt off the pine given Alexander's situation and after having been in the program for an entire season, that screams far more about Mickelson. I mean, Kansas was using Traylor often, and it wasn't pretty. But sure, knock Kansas. I'm sure you know far more about talent than anyone on their staff.

I wasn't trying to snide your program in any way. But if you can't see the differences in the four players mentioned, well ... I'm no Anne Sullivan.
