Same story, different season

No way that Painter did not play a part in the loss...the point regarding Haas is extremely valid, and Spike was far more effective in limited minutes that Thompson was in extended ones...still makes no sense at all either why Cline is starting and Carsen Edwards is not...made no sense when the move was made, has not made sense since and will never make sense.

I think a legitimate debate is whether to have played Haas more or not. IT is NOT a clear cut decision as there are valid reasons for either...but that is a legit debate. Personally, I wanted Haas at the end because I "felt" like Michigan was nto going to be as effective at the three ball and Haas might score or put out one of their 3 ball shooters with a foul. Others would have a legitimate opinion to say he would still be lost in space and if they fouled him in this short game...that could give a loss if he missed fts.

As I said, it was gutsy either way...buy I might have rolled it towards Haas only because late in the game I wasn't fearing teh three ball as much..course if Haas goes in and they hit two three balls in a minute...game over perhaps...

I said it before. I'd rather get a loss like this out of the way because I didn't see any way we would run the table in the BTT and NCAA tourney to finish the season. We've also bounced back from every loss with at least a couple wins I believe.

Totally agree with you. I had a very bad feeling about this game because I didn't think we could win the tournament and also do well in the NCAA ["run the table"] If you are/can not going to win the tournament might as well go home early and avoid the punishment of more games. I am glad this loss is behind us. I have a very good feeling about the NCAA tournament.

Who did you want in the game? Eifert?
It happened in the Nebraska game and cost them that game as well...no way Haas should not have been on the floor, as UM had no answer for him at all...just as Nebraska did not.

YOUR point was that he could not stop anyone off the dribble, yet, for the second year in a row, Zak Irvin dominated off the dribble, and Edwards has not stopped it the entire year and was abused repeatedly again today as well.

Actually they did have an answer for him every time they fouled him today. I don't think we wanted Haas going to the line for 1-1's down the stretch today. Or at least I didn't.

I don't think it's correct to totally blame Painter for the loss, and I also don't think it's correct to completely absolve him of blame. But, I will continue to question the rationale behind his late-season lineup change - to what is almost certainly the slowest and most one dimensional three-guard starting lineup in the country. Cline effectively got 1 shot in 23 minutes today, until the final shot of the game. I know Edwards struggled down the stretch, but defenses will continue to smother any other guard without the ball, knowing they won't be burned by a backdoor cut, and that they won't have to help off their man on dribble penetration, etc.

why is everyone making excuses why they lost. Could have stuff is junk.

What do you mean making excuses? There are reasons they lost. Identifying those reasons doesn't equate to making excuses.

you keep saying if they would have made a free throw. well, they didn't. this is the same old choke job that purdue always does come march. we can all agree on that.

Call it what you will. We lost a close game we had opportunities to win. Missed free throws were a big reason why. It's notable because we've been a VERY good free throw shooting team this year. It's not how I'd have expected us to lose a game and for all the things people want to blame Painter for I don't see how you can fault him for his 80% free throw shooting team on the season shooting under 50% today.

Haas has shot 4 times as many on the year and is shooting 72% vs 74% from PJ

So you want a worse free throw shooter on the season who was 1-4 today to be shooting that? That's what you're telling me.

Also, PJ has hit clutch free throws (thinking Penn State for one but could have the wrong game) this year and other big shots as well.

their bigs were in foul trouble Haas missing a FT and knocking out a big is much more beneficial than the shit cline was doing down the stretch.

Yep. Missed free throw and then get blown by for a layup on the other end. Exactly how to win a close game!

Yes, when it's that close, I want the guy that has shot 4 times more on the season at the line.

Vs the greatness I saw from PJ and Cline. Come on this isn't a zero sum game. Our PG play was weak as fukk hoping that that was going to change in the last few minutes was a huge fukking mistake by Painter. We were in the game because of our Bigs we lost the game because we went small. It really is that simple.

No. We lost the game because 6-13 on free throws. It's THAT simple.

That is complete horseshit. We were in the game with 6-12 ft then we switched up our lineup and starting getting our asses beat. We didn't lose the game because we went 6-13. We lost the game because we abandoned what was working. I'd buy 6-13 if we lost in regulation by 5 or so points, but to tell me a game that we tied in couldn't have been won by not taking out HAAS when he was actually having a great game. I have ocean front property in arizona to sell you.

Keep making excuses for painters lack of court sense. The guy has a chub for Cline and I just don't see why. He is no Rhino thats for sure.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Haas missed our 12th free throw, a 1-1, at the 4:53 mark at which time the score was 59-59. Then you claim we "went small" and got our asses beat yet the game ended up in overtime.

Please defend your claim.

Defend what claim missingg a freethrow. Yeah that 1 ft with 5 minutes left in the game didn't cause us to lose. Our abysmal guard play the last few minutes lost us the game. Our guards weren't doing shit, we would have been much better off going 3 guards PF and center. Please tell me how cline or anyone else getting 5 minutes extra put us in a place to win the game, because I just didn't see it. Where was the marginal benefit of having a 3rd guard in the game. Because it sure as shitt wasn't seen on the scoreboard.
