Guessing they moved the bar when they got belicek and he was below that bar. Dont follow unc but probably recruited over and i heard his gf is still at purdue. Not the kind of leader i would want when you know the next year or two are going to be rough.
He was the only qb who seemed like he gave a damn about winning on a 1-11 team. He then got benched for Card who couldn’t be bothered to give a damn…and then the new staff immediately recruited over him. However something shifted before the spring portal opened as the coaches definitely put it out there that they don’t have qb1, and they were open to options. Is RB an elite qb, probably not? Is he better than those in the room at Purdue, it certainly seems like the coaching staff thought he was worth a look.
And belichek decided to add a qb via the portal as well. That probably was a factor in his decision to leave UNC.

Is that the type of guy you want leading this team? He left the team in its lowest moment and you want him back just because he’s more talented than what you have?

Yeah I think at the time he left our only quarterback on the roster was Meredith, no?
Again the coach that recruited him got fired, it created uncertainty and now he’s back. We can hate on him for his three months away, or hope that he makes us a better team.
I don't hate on him, I just didn't see anything last time around that screamed starting QB in the B10.
Although apparently, the coaches feel the same way about the other guys here.
Hopefully someone works out because our chances at improving to a 3-4 win season probably require at least medium QB play.
First two games should be wins regardless so we definitely get extra time to figure it out.
And then got to experience the worst coach in D1 history, my beef is with those who are criticizing this kid for making the decision to leave. Even before nil a coaching transition (and he experienced on of the worst) is reason to change teams. I don’t know if he’ll play, I have high hopes for Malachi Singleton, but with all the nil chaos Ryans decision just isn’t a big deal. We added a serviceable qb with more upside, let’s enjoy it.
Odom brought in 3 qbs, all with ties to the new staff. The kid from central Florida was originally recruited by our new qb coach (although he just hit the portal too).
But brohm left before he arrived on campus, so Walters had to keep him in that first signing class

But the season was over. College kids change their minds all the time. I think it speaks well for Purdue that he wants to come back. He might now be more loyal to Purdue than anyone else in that respect.
Let's give CBO the benefit of the doubt on whether he is a good guy to bring back.
I agree that nil and unlimited transfers are destroying college sports. But I would suggest focusing on the failure of the ncaa, rather than blaming the kids caught up in the swirl.
Under the old amateur system I’m 100 percent with you on holding players accountable for their choice to leave (don’t let the door hit ya where the…), but that’s just not our reality now.
You don’t know what you are talking about, once again. He wanted to stay but he grew up in Bellicheck country and got a phone call (rumor was he was on his way to meet the Purdue coaches) and offered close to $1m to come there before purdue was able to make any commitments. If that happened to you in your career - your entire management team gets fired, you have no idea if you will even have a job and have to reinterview with the new bosses, and you get a ridiculous cash offer from one of best in your business? He’s a good fit for our system and is reported to be a good locker room guy of course I’d take him back! If rehired guys before that seen the grass isn’t always greener, and one of those guys is my best employee.
I do blame the NCAA for most of this, they are just kids and were taken advantage of.
That said, being able to leave, play spring ball somewhehre else, then return is a bit much for me
that would be my read. Seems like it would make the most sense that Colson heard Browne might be coming out and realized he wasn't going to start. I definitely like the idea of having someone with talent and experience coming back.
Which tells you he has talent, now just needs a chance to compete .
Not saying you didn't hear what you heard, but I'm pretty sure Browne is from Michigan and then played his senior hear in Florida. After that I think he played a year of prep ball in NY. Im completely going off recollection so I could be wrong. Hard for me to believe the backup on a 1 win team was offered $1mil.
That's correct. Didn't we have another back-up quarterback in recent years from Connecticut? I think that's the confusion but I can't remember who that was.
Browne was a Brohm recruit so people can’t blame the kid for looking for a different opportunity with the cards he was dealt with Purdue coaches. Kids will be kids in the portal world so I’m in favor of brining him back if Odom wants him back. Wouldn’t surprise me if he’s QB1 once the season starts.

The Browne situation sums up the transfer portal. Until the NCAA steps up and fixes the flaws this wild mess will continue…at this point it is what it is, got to adapt and don’t get left behind!

It’s crazy to me that the easy answer was (in hindsight) letting the players unionize and negotiating a player agreement as was being pushed by athletes at several schools. Now that we’ve arrived in a lawless state of affairs I’m of the opinion that the ncaa is basically powerless to create necessary change for fear of further litigation.
Not everything is about money! But you seem to think so! And yes there are people who remain in their jobs rather than to go to other companies that would pay them more money! If you had a job as a professor at indiana state and Purdue offered you 4x as much to do the same exact job you would be really stupid not to take it. It doesn’t mean yo are greedy, just not stupid. Exactly right , before you get righteous about your staying at a place or living a modest life we are talking about 18-22 year old kids and they only have 3-4 years to make this money
You have a good memory. I remember NY and forgot it was only a year. It was close to that, if you want to know actual amount you need to pay to get behind paywalls. And football is only getting $13m.
