RPI

So Florida loses to Vanderbilt and moves up 1 spot to #5 in the RPI

Genius I tell ya, just genius.
RPI sucks.. but anyone looking for much movement at this point in the season is going to be disappointed. There are so many data points already "in the bank". It looks like Florida's RPI did not really improve, Oregon dropped below them for playing (and annihilating) a dreadful Oregon State team. That right there shows how flawed RPI is.

The fact is our RPI ceiling is somewhere in the teens and has been for awhile. Our only hope for better than a 4 seed depends on the committee breaking away from RPI, at least a little bit more than last year, and for more teams than just Gonzaga and West Virginia. Personally, I don't see them breaking away much from our RPI with a KenPom not much higher and our best win being #24 ND.

Our Kenpom is #13 which still puts us at a 4 seed. I think that is where we will end up. All of these metrics have some issues - Wichita State and SMU are both higher than us in Kenpom and St. Mary's is just behind us. I think we end up on the 4 line unless we lose our first game of the BTT then we may be a 5. We win the BTT or just a game or two and we still end up a 4

How is MN's non-conference SOS that much better than ours? I'm sure the numbers add up when you dig into them, but the eyeball test of who they played compared to us... it doesn't seem like theirs should be ranked 26 and us 165.

Can't win for losing.
Northwestern now at 51. We just LOST 2 top 50 wins by beating them. Need NW to win at least one more game.

The RPI math punishes teams for playing really bad teams, no matter how badly you beat them. Purdue played 5 teams with RPI>250. Minnesota played 1.

To your point, it is hard for most people to distinguish Morehead from McNeese. But to the RPI it is the same as the difference between Villanova and Auburn.

and that is the killer, which many of us have brought up over the years about schedule. It also hurt Indiana last year.

Without that and winning one of the big non-conference games (Villanova and Louisville).....Purdue is much closer to a 2/3 seed line. Still thinking it's 4/5.

Completely agree. I hate saying this but I really don't think it matters what we do in the BTT. We are the #4 seed in Milwaukee.

That's why the Illinois loss to Rutgers really hurt. They were probably a tourney team with a win AND would have moved in the top 50 RPI. Could have given Purdue another top 50 win....however, still sucks about NW dropping to 51.

However, if NU can beat OSU & Maryland on Friday...that would definitely get them back in to the top 50 RPI.

Kenpom has gonzaga as number 1
And now st marys ahead of purdue

If rpi is replaced, should we even be using one of these other current metrics either?

Kick in the ass isn't it? You'll drive yourself crazy going through the RPI numbers. I know this from experience, just ask Tex!!

Is it possible that our RPI would be higher right now if we had lost to Northwestern last week?
