So who's super pumped about Moore after watching episode 2 of "gold and black days"?? That's as much gushing about a true freshman you'll hear from a coach.

Will he be our leading receiver? I think the opportunities are there. Let's look at what other notable freshman have done:

DeAngelo Yancey - 32 receptions, 546 yards, 2 TDs

Dorien Bryant - 38 / 584 / 3

Taylor Stubblefield - 73 / 910 / 2

John Standeford - 67 / 744 / 6

Vinny Sutherland - 34 / 357 / 2

After looking at this list, which comprises the best receiving seasons of freshman WR since 97, I think the following is a reasonable projection:

30 receptions, 400 yards, and 3 TDs

I wouldn't be at all surprised if he surpasses that projection by 50%.

With Rondale, the more I see of him the more he impresses me. Not only is he fast, but he has some great moves to gain separation. I am not big on forecasting a Freshman to be the teams top receiver, but I think Moore could lead this team in receptions and yards this coming season. I think he will average at least 5 receptions per game. With his speed he should lead the team in yardage after the reception as well. I could see him with anywhere from 60-80 receptions and 700-900 yards. Like another poster said, add some more rushing. He is gonna be a big producer.

I’ve never seen another human being get to full speed in 3 steps or less. Vinny did that and it was his greatest asset.
Vinny had good straight ahead speed, but Moore can make a move and not lose any speed, then still have enough to outrun guys.

I'm thinking that I heard, or read, that Moore has a 4.33 time in the 40. That was very clear in that jet sweep, for a 76 yard TD.

Just for S & G's, let's say Moore has another 200+ all purpose yards and 2 TDs against EMU, and let's just throw in a highlight RAC just for fun.
Does he start getting any early Heisman discussion?

Nope. He'd have to have something similar to what Manziel had when he won. He was racking up yards consistently against some bad teams but then obliterated Oklahoma on a national level and then continued that streak through the season. If Moore were to average 200 yards per game total, he would get roughly 2,500 yards total yards. Bryce Love had 2,118 last year and couldn't get the job done as a feature back at Stanford.

Zero chance Moore gets any sort of Heisman pub but definitely could be looked at as a first team All Conference Returner, freshman POY, and Freshman AA.

The only...and I mean absolute only way Moore gets a sniff at the Heisman would be if he went nuclear against Wisconsin, Iowa, and OSU to the tune of like like 350 yards yards total in each of those games with multiple TD's in each game. As good as he is, that would be an all century type of effort to do...and also about a 0% likelihood of happening.

Rondale for Heisman!

I agree that the big game performance against top teams is what will get him noticed....easier said than done.
I think if he has a really good freshman year the hype train could start for next season.

So through 5 games, Rondale is on pace for:

Receptions: 98
Rec. Yards: 1100
Total TDs: 12

Those will EASILY be the best numbers from a freshman receiver in Purdue history. In just 5 games he has numbers better than a lot of people in the list above.

If you go with those totals plus his potential rushing and return yards:

Rushing: ~ 275 yards
KO: ~ 700 yards
PR: ~ 150 yards

Total: 2225 total yards from scrimmage estimated

Rondale Moore is leading the Big Ten in receiving again!
  • He has 57 receptions for 728 yards with 7 TD's
  • 2nd is Minnesota's Tyler Johnson's 47 rec, 705 yds, 6 TD
  • Zico in 9th with 22 rec, 449 yds, 3 TD
  • Iowa's Hockenson is top TE with 25 rec, 424yds, 3TD
  • Hopkins 2nd TE with 22 rec, 389 yds, 2 TD
I have been working the last few days and don't have time to read the various threads so I am sorry if this info has already been posted.

Boiler Up!

No disputing his game accomplishments are verging on unreal. But what most impresses me about this young man is his unflappable approach to the game.

Don't get me wrong- I LOVED Isaac's pin wheeling run back into the end zone after his one handed TD grab against the dearly departed OSU squad. No matter what Rondale does he hands the ball off to the ref like "Here, I just found this laying here and picked it up for you" and if it is not a touchdown play his attention is immediately back where we will be huddling up for the next snap. You would be totally unable to guess he had just made a jaw dropping play by his demeanor. I marvel that he is able to maintain that facade in the heat of a game- I find that most impressive.

Stubblefield's numbers were just ridiculous. After a few years, I am still a little surprised what he accomplished. Was under appreciated nationally.

Y'all can see my prediction above. We are just a little bit more than half way through this season and Rondale is already there and should surpass my prediction before this season is over. I suddenly love eating Crow!
