I know he's an '18 kid, but does anyone know where we stand with him. ESPN still has us on his list. It's time for CMP to get another in state kid to stay at home.

If CMP lands him, that would really say something. Isn't he the #1 overall SG and top-5 recruit in that class right now? I've seen a handful of videos; he obviouslly is supremely talented with a smooth game.

I also would be interested to hear from those in the know on any recent rumblings.

He is #2 in the class and everyone wants him. I'm guessing Louisville or Ky unless he is a student, then Duke. Painter has a shot but it's weak at best.

I wonder what kind of "probation" Lousiville will be under at that time?

Probably something like the "student -athletes" will now have a 4 a.m. 'curfew' , hee

It's like in the movie Goodfellas, when Paul Sorvino (sp?) & Liatta are in the joint: sure, they locked up but eating steak & lobster..

Ha-ha.....hey, Rickie.....white or red?

Typically, Painter does not put effort into these types of kids (other than Biggie) I cannot think of another top 20 he has really put effort into since the Zeller kid.

I think if he would put some effort in here like he did with VE, he might have a 15-20% shot. As it is now prob. close to zero.

Doing time is no problem so long as I can gets razor blades to shave my garlic paper thin so as it melts into the sauce.

yes, 5 stars matter. Ranking matters. Thanks coach Painter, so please chase after those kids.

Not sure time would matter. New Albany is not Purdue country. If the kid was from the region, the fort or Indy then Painter may have a shot.

I agree with that not being traditional Purdue country....anything south of I-465 pretty much. Basically, in Louisville's back-yard.

Duke is sure an academic school but not many players are choosing it for it's prestigious academic program now. Not criticizing their reasoning just the main reason kids go to Duke is Coach K. not academics.

I would agree. Most of these kids at Duke, Stanford, Cal, aren't enrolled in the academic side of the universities.

Yea low % chance for sure......but....well Middletown, OH; Atascocita, Texas; or Hokesbluff, AL are really not Purdue Country either...

I have no insider knowledge, so I'll defer to those who do. And I understand that the geography doesn't help us.

However, in general, I think it's important to remember a few things.

1. Prior to Biggie committing, many thought we'd never get another big-time recruit. Yes, there were factors in our favor, but he did commit, and look at how many positives that commitment has wrought.

2. Each successful basketball program carves its own niche (or maybe "carves out its own territory" would be more appropriate), but some niches overlap, and that leads to recruiting battles. We're not a one-and-done factory like UK and Duke. We're more of a blue collar program that's seeking to attract higher-level talent. Basically, we're striving to be Michigan State without any of the baggage some of us perceive them as possessing (yes, I'm one of those who is dubious about their program's big picture).

3. I know that close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades and blah, blah, blah, but we are getting closer to claiming a good deal of the territory that has been MSU's for a goodly while, and as our territory/niche expands and crystalizes, our odds of snaring more high-level talents will increase.

What I'm saying is it has to start somewhere. The elite programs didn't become elite overnight, and the process is especially slow for a school like Purdue, who isn't merely trying to dazzle recruits who aren't interested in school. Every recruiting win helps, and every on-court triumph improves our chances in future recruiting battles. In my opinion, this process is well underway. Last year we were what, 27-and-8? This year we're heading toward even more wins (at least if we reach our potential). What we have coming back and what we have coming in are both suggestive of continued success.

We're becoming what we want to become. It just takes time.

Sure, we might not get Langford, but to say we don't have a chance at a player because he's a five star recruit smacks of defeatism. I believe we already have a chance at them, and I believe Coach Painter is working hard to get them. We came close with JJJ, and I believe we'll break through with greater frequency in the coming years.

In my humble opinion, the fan base suffers from a collective inferiority complex that isn't in line with the great things that are happening in the program.

I say this having heard from multiple sources that Langford is looking to play for a higher profile program. I wouldn't discount a 5 star without that information.

My comment wasn't introduced to you, specifically. I just see a specific attitude here at times that sells our potential short. With regard to this specific recruit, you might very well be correct. I would simply argue that we ARE becoming a top-fifteen program, with the potential to claw higher.

I agree with all of your points....save one.....

I saying we do not have much of a chance because Painter hasn't put time in recruiting this guy lately. If we did Painter would have been courtside this fall....I have not seen any accounts of that......or maybe I just missed that....

I think we have a great chance because the young man likes Purdue and always has.....if that changes and it comes from his mouth, then we will know.

The rest is all hot air.....

Just noticed he passed Big Dog on the Indiana All-Time Scoring list for high school.

If we win the NCAAT this year, we'll be higher profile

Known mainly for football, but Bob Griese was from Evansville, and I think he played BB as well.

That's for Owl to confirm.
