Rod Woodson

I don't know what to make of this article. I wonder why the Exponent ran it, especially if there's no indication that Woodson is a serious candidate. Are they just floating a rumor? Are they grandstanding for Woodson? And what do we make of the last three paragraphs, especially hose Dienhart quotations, that appear to shoot the whole thing down.

It puts Bobinski in something of a bind. If he bites he takes an enormous risk. If Bobinski passes he risks alienating one of the program's biggest stars.

Unless like others have suggested they bring him in as a DC. I could see that working out well, depending of course who the HC is.

The fact he gave him a legitimate interview was more than enough deference to a program legend. If he professionally interviewed him and let him know he decided it was best to go in another direction, i dont see where alienation would come in. RW has been in the NFL a long time. He gets the football business and is a big boy.

I live in CA -the Rams have gotten into a similar controversey with Eric Dickerson who apparently thinks hes owed something for being a retired HF player and is inclined to question Jeff Fisher and assistants. Unless Woodson has some sort pull w/Sumlin from their time here in 1980's, its best to kindly decline his request for interview or consideration-its more likely to end in hurt feelings ala Rick Mount
Dickerson and the Rams, Walton and UCLA....are both cancers who should shut up and stay away. Same with Woodson who is not qualified to be a P5 HC. Let him go earn it as an assistant.

If I was MBob and Woodson have a good interview, I would tell him he will be a preferred candidate as a position coach with the new HC who can interview him. At the worst, Rod could coach the DB's and move up to a role as associate HC. The guy was a good DB coach with Oakland (IMO) and being a Purdue guy, I think he deserves a shot for sticking his neck out when he doesn't need to.

Rod is a DB only coach right now. There is much more escalation at the top. No doubt a great legend and likely "could be" a great coach, but might need to be a D.C. first while honing management skills. "Could be" is too much risk with where Purdue is now which is the equivalent of a rubbish trash fire that needs cleaned up as well.

I'm getting worried with all this Woodson talk if there's feelers being put out for the fans to see what they think :( Hell yes, I'm paranoid.

I understand the uncertainty surrounding Woodson, but man, I would love to have someone here that bleeds black and gold like us and would do anything to see it succeed. He's not going to run off for another contract, he doesn't need money. He has a lot of contacts and he needs to win to uphold his reputation. You can make a case that he has a better football resume than Drew Brees and if he was retired and wanted to run the team, everyone here would take him in a heartbeat. How much do the X's and O's matter? If Rod Woodson walks into your house to recruit you, um, you're in. A very interesting development indeed.

I'd be cool with Woodson as DC. I'm not saying tell the new HC that it that, but throw it out as a possibility if he doesn't already have one lined up

He's already dressed for the part. He can just slip into his Vegas Gold jacket ... the one with that Pro Football Hall of Fame logo on the pocket. Just might open a few doors, ya think? No need to post a resume when you can just wear it.
