This is a fun read. The author took a look at what rivalry games would look like if each program put their "best" all time starting five on the floor. I could certainly argue with some of his selections (Lawrence Funderburke?, No Phil Ford at UNC?), but all in all, he got most of them right. A few comments:
My initial reaction would be that UCLA's starting five would dominate with the twin towers of Walton and Abdul-Jabbar. But then I got to thinking about how difficult it would be to play an LSU team with Shaq and Maravich and I think they could take them.
I'd feel pretty good about Purdue's ability to compete with most of those teams with Big Dog, Mount and crew. This obviously assumes Moore could handle the PG duties. Frankly, with the offense firepower Mount, Robinson, Moore and Carroll would provide, I might go with Cardinal instead of Miller to wreak havoc defensively.
Is Meyers Leonard really Illinois' best big man?
For as good as their history is, I'm a little underwhelmed by Kentucky.
My five most likely squads from this article to win a championship:
LSUUCLAKansasGeorgetownNorth Carolina (mostly because of Jordan)
Rivalry all time teams
