Butler adds another recruit. Class is now ranked 6th in the nation. Tiny little Butler, smack dab in the middle of a state with 2 B1G and ND getting it done.

I was just going to post this. Butler has two top 100 players (one of which was a Purdue target). I get that playing time factors in, but it hurts when you are at times viewed as the fourth best team in your own state! Even when we have such a highly rated team. It is completely evident at the crossroads classic. It's like a road game every year! Purdue needs to start making some noise in March to start winning over non Purdue alumn. It is starting to look more and more like this is a now or never type of situation. If Biggie leaves next year, this team will have a large void to fill. If he stays, we will have two years to make a deep run and 2018 becomes that now or never year for recruiting. I just can't wait for the season to start. So far the recruiting season has been nothing but disappointment after disappointment. There is still a long way to go, and we are still in the hunt some top 100 guys, and I am sure there will be a transfer or two in the mix. It doesn't change the fact that I am still really anxious for the season to start. Expectations are high!

Ok, breathe. Reasons not to panic:

We were late to the party with Kyle Young, so we didn't necessarily get beat out badly for that recruit. They have two 4-stars, but only 50% of the 2017 Top 100 are off the board.

We had arguably a better class in 2015 and clearly a better class in 2014. 2016 was a wash (Joey Brunk vs Carsen Edwards).

They have had our number the last few meetings and made it to two national championships recently, but they are the exception and not the rule. They are a basketball anomaly. You can't benchmark our program against Butler.

Bottom line: we are still a consistent Top 25 program, despite our two down years, in the most prolific basketball state in the coutnry.

1. They cheat!
2. They have no academic standards.
3. Their coach says stuff that recruits want to hear. He may even have an emotional connection to the game.
4. We need to save our scholarships for the late bloomers.
5. There are plenty of other good players out there. Maybe no more in the top 100, but still....

Covered.

Panic! Cancel the season! Cancel the program! Every good player in the whole country is now off the board!

You forgot #6:
6. What ever we are doing seems to work because we are rated in the top 20 this year.

Well, Purdue has 0 wins and 5 losses in the event, so an argument can certainly be made against them regarding the topic of the top four men's college hoops programs in the state.

Yes, twice every 10 years, Painter manages to assemble a class that leads to a short run of success...it is a formula that only works at Purdue where it is deemed not just acceptable, but virtually incredible.

Twice every 11, but who's counting
