Agree on the rankings but feel like he is close to being in that second tier.Accurate post.
However, CMP has been a super coach here @ Purdue. But yes, his recruiting could be better. But as an FYI....I guess folks are tired of hearing the obvious again and again and again though.
Michigan, Michigan State, IU adn Ohio State have recruited pretty well for some time. Gotta throw Maryland in there as well. Wisconsin other than the one team won without 5 stars and so I wouldn't know if they are recruiting well in any system or just theirsAccurate post.

I also had a similar question regarding Lutz. Was he an amazing recruiter at Creighton? Many on here seem to believe he will be a game changer for Purdue recruiting. I have no knowledge of him, so if someone that does can answer, that would be great.I'll agree IZzo is a great recruiter and Painter is not at his level. That doesn't mean Painter is a bad recruiter. I am still unsure about Lutz being an effective recruiter. Did Lutz lure Epperson to Creighton? Or were other factors and coaches involved? I would sure like to make la lum a pipeline to Purdue, as well as several AAU teams. We still have four 2018 scholarships to give and plenty of time to see if Lutz can work some magic.

He is/was regarded as a good recruiter at Creighton.I also had a similar question regarding Lutz. Was he an amazing recruiter at Creighton? I guess winning the Big Ten by two games makes you a 3rd tier coach. Good to know!
Ed was a great hire by Archie.I'm sure Lutz will be fine, but I really wish we had gotten a guy like Ed Schilling. I think he will do wonders at IU.
Ed was a great hire by Archie.
I wouldn't mind getting Dane Fife - that guy can recruit.
If Coach Painter isn't in the same category recruiting as the rest, it must mean he is just that much better at developing talent while at Purdue.
yes...or that the ratings are nto as accurate as some want to believe...pick your choice ...If Coach Painter isn't in the same category recruiting as the rest, it must mean he is just that much better at developing talent while at Purdue.
That's my question about Lutz. How much of Creighton's recruiting success was directly due to him, and how much was due to their head coach? We give a lot of credit to IZzo and criticize Painter. But I have to believe their assistants should also be given some credit and also some blame. In football, certain assistant coaches are credited with recruiting certain players. Recruiting sites are quick to say who the lead recruiter is for football players. However in basketball, it's not as clear who the main recruiter is.
I'm a guy who hates to say, we'll have a better picture several years down the road. We constantly talk about how Painter and other coaches develop relationships early with players. The same applied to Brohm. They were both developing relationships with players who were not in the current recruiting class. We see articles about Isiah being a Purdue target for 2019! So I have to believe Lutz had some targets or players he was following at Creighton and had made relationships with before he came to Purdue, and I would have to believe if he was recruiting them for Creighton, those relationships he developed still exist. As for expanding our recruiting coverage, we are not North Dakota. I'd rather see us concentrate on recruiting guys from Indiana and the Midwest than wasting our time going after players from all over the country. If Indiana players are good enough for MSU, UK, IU, Mich, OSU, UW, Xavier, ND, and Duke, they should be good enough for us. We don't really need to expand our coverage to players who've never seen snow, and really have no interest and are just giving Purdue lip service until what they really want is offered. In some cases in the past, I feel Purdue was being played and used.
I disagree with being stuck in the midwest. I have no problem with putting a focus on the Midwest, but Painter has benefited from targeting underrated folks all over. Look at Wheeler and Carsen. I like looking at schools like Brewster. Almost every kid on that team has D1 offers.
I would like to see Painter offer Logan Johnson, Faron Hunt, and Ronaldo Segu. Wouldn't mind Aaron Henry getting an offer as well. Underrated players that have the ability to contribute. I understand why it's good to put priority on close by recruits strictly on a budget standpoint. But if I am able to find these names as underrated recruits, I am sure Painter has somebody scouting as well. At least start making contact with some of the 100-175 guys. Wheeler came out of nowhere so I am sure another underrated kid will pop up late. I still don't understand why Henry doesn't have an offer yet. THT and Hayes have gotten "blue blood" offers so it is unlikely they end up at Purdue. Ahrens is likely Michigan or OSU. Hunter is likely last number one option left with a real likelyhood. That doesn't mean that Painter can't get somebody to decommit later, but for now best case would be Castleton, Hunter, and Williams. If they could add a wing, that would be a very good class and good for the future.
Several of the names I mentioned come from outside the Midwest and would be very good gets. We struggle in recruiting battles here, why not reach out more to Texas, Florida, and the northeast states. As much as I love losing battles over and over to IU, MSU, Butler, and Xavier I think we could have continued success outside of the Midwest.
Actually, you're right. I would put Painter up against anyone in the B1G in every aspect of coaching, except recruiting. If Coach Painter isn't in the same category recruiting as the rest, it must mean he is just that much better at developing talent while at Purdue.
We get it. You're an IU fan. You've done nothing but unfavorably compare us to all the great things Archie is doing since you showed up a few days ago. Head back to Peegs now.I'm sure Lutz will be fine, but I really wish we had gotten a guy like Ed Schilling. I think he will do wonders at IU.
Lol I've been here for 2 years. I have been apart of 4 conversations (recently). I said PJ would start over NE (he will). I said we needed to take a PG in this class (we do). I said every school should adopt the iu BoR (I think it protects the student athlete). Finally in this thread I asked about Lutz, and said I would like someone like Schilling (I meant a guy who is a known recruiting guru with state ties. ie fife). But yes call me an IU fan because I don't hate everything their program does, and I don't think unproven freshmen should start over seniors that have been 3 year starters. We get it. You're an IU fan. When you got atleast 15 quality teams within a 5 hour radius, it becomes a little hard to get your plan A guys consistently. If you look around the country, most teams struggle with this problem, especially since kids want to go far away from home now consistently too.I know all about the places Painter's players have come from. But I doubt anybody would be unhappy if he were to only land players from the Midwest and keep the best Indiana players in state and playing for Purdue Epperson was from La lum. Would yo u rather have him or Haarms? . Would you rather have JJJ or Weaver? Would you rather have Anderson or nothing? Pj was from Indiana. Mathias was from ohio. Williams is from Michigan. Eastern is from Illinois as was Stephens. Hummell, JJ, Martin and Etwan were all from Indiana. Smotherman was from Indiana and la lum. Ahrens and Carmody are from the Midwest. Phinisee is local. Hammons was originally from Indiana. Sasha is from Indiana. Jabari parker and Cliff Alexander were fro m Chicago. if pressed, I could list 100 more players from Indiana and the Midwest that I know everyone here would have loved to see playing for Purdue..
Painter has targeted and also signed a lot of quality players from Indiana and the Midwest. I don't feel like we really need to expand our recruiting coverage. What I feel we need to do is do a lot better job of convincing our in state and Midwest targets that Purdue is the new mecca of college basketball and all these players headed elsewhere need to see the light and come to Purdue.
or in other words, we need to start having success actually signing our #1 targets. Painter has a tremendous eye for talent. We have a great team. Just think how great it could be if we had signed our #1 targets or a player from Indiana, Illinois and Ohio's all state team each year There would be no need to look elsewhere. I would rather we made inroads into the gyms of Indiana than the gyms of Texas and Arizona.

Can't fight the change, gotta go along with the new landscape of recruiting.
You conveniently showed up when RP committed to IU to tell us how great he is and what a huge loss it is for Purdue. Since then you've done nothing but tout and defend IU on every topic you've commented on. IU fans who can be respectful are welcome here - there aren't many but some do post here. IU fans who come here pretending to be Purdue fans are not.Lol I've been here for 2 years. I have been apart of 4 conversations (recently). I said PJ would start over NE (he will). You know you are right. In my exchange with that poster it should of been more clearer to me than I was paying attention to.
