Obviously Brohm staying put stabilizes things with the 2019 verbal commits.

Is there any negative impact on recruiting the Louisville area with the backlash against Brohm following yesterday's decision? Or is this just a vocal minority we are hearing about. I would hate for kids in that area to feel like they can't go to Purdue because they are concerned about hostility toward themselves or their family. Hopefully this all settles down and cooler heads prevail.

I don’t think it has any impact. You are talking about a small percentage of very vocal fans. Quite a few UL fans I talked to was happy that he was staying, because he seemed to be happy and he was creating something special. I can also tell you the UK fans love us now. They love the meltdown of these select group of fans.

Weaver was supposed to make his announcement on Friday. Kentucky is the leader. But Louisville was supposedly in second and Purdue was still being considered.

I highly doubt Louisville is being considered after yesterday.

I think, if anything, Brohm will continue to dominate the recruiting scene in L'Ville and KY. Probably will increase our profile as well.

4* LB Jared Casey just decommitted from Oregon and I doubt Brohm has given up on pursuing 4* JJ Weaver who announces tomorrow either.

JJ Weaver would be a monster pickup to go along with GK on the D line. His recruitment seems to be leaning towards KY who has capitalized on Louisville's downfall. Not sure how we look on the scholly grid with open spots, as I imagine D Bell is the primary focus at the moment.

I believe the biggest impact won't be felt by Purdue, but rather Louisville. At the beginning of the year, Louisville was seen as a viable option for many elite athletes. as the year progressed, many recruits abandoned ship. and that ship is still sinking. Without a coach, that ship may have sunk, and many of their current players may look to transfer. I suspect this will greatly diminish the appeal of Louisville as a potential destination for the next 2-4 years.

I believe both Purdue and UK will fill the vacuum created in the near future.

Something else to consider. I still believe Brohm will leave Purdue. but I no longer believe his next job will be at Louisville. he may instead be headed to the Colts or Packers. I believe his brother may go to Louisville in the future instead.

There is zero chance Purdue gets Weaver. They didn’t make his final three. I don’t know anything about Casey’s recruitment. I know Purdue was on him early, but as his recruitment blew up, Purdue fell out.

Cam Williams is the one to watch on defense that has yet to make a decision. If his grades are good enough, Purdue has a chance.

2019 is mostly done. Brohm picking Purdue over Louisville may have sealed the deal for Bell. In state recruiting should go up. Kentucky recruiting shouldn’t change. Brohm kept his word he would stay in Purdue, and that should actually help him. He still has in roads with Trinity and now the fear of him leaving should be gone. Stephen Herron (highly coveted DE out of trinity and Stanford commit) posted about the school closing over the threat after Brohm left with a laughing emoji. Louisville came out looking bad, and Brohm came out looking good.

The real winners of this whole deal are Kentucky and Purdue. Kentucky will continue to dominate the state and Purdue will probably continue to be in a close second.

I would like to see Brohm continue to have success in Ohio and increase his success in Virginia. I am not worried about Indiana and Kentucky.

If College football still had a video game, this without a doubt would be the year I would buy! That ‘19 class is going to be legit!

They say "time heals all wounds" but if people are posting videos online and re-tweeting, showing so called Cards fans burning my jersey, I would not forget or forgive

Our Ohio Crop this year might be just as good as the KY crop.

Don't sleep on the Michigan kids we have coming in either.

I really think Kyle Bilodeau is the 'sleeper' in this class. I wouldn't be shocked to see him as a 3-4 year contributor. Runs like Hopkins, better hands and a college ready body already. If we can pull more like that in from VA im all for it!

I realize Purdue is a long shot for Weaver. But I believe after this week, Louisville totally dropped out of the running.

I see Purdue as a big winner as I doubt any of its current recruits will de-commit, and we may pick up Bell and Williams, and will increase our pipeline into Louisville high schools. I believe Purdue will also start showing dominance over IU for the in state Indiana high school elite players.

I also see UK as a big winner.

UK dominating the state but Purdue being a close second is a contradiction isn’t it? It isn’t domination if there is a close second unless you just meant dominant over Louisville

He wouldn’t be going to the Colts anytime in the next 5 years. Frank Reich is going to be in the running for NFL coach of the year.

That Langford (lackford) guy is suppose to post on KC later today why Purdue fell out favor with Weaver after Weaver makes it official to UK.

Wiltfong is on the iu baliard saying Williams could pop for IU anytime. There have been a run of CB picks for Williams to IU. I think Purdue gets Bell.

And the Crystal Ball picks are all IU homers? Williams was on the Purdue sideline for the Bucket Game. He wants to come to Purdue and has for awhile. The issue holding him back was academic. That seems to have been cleared up. Why would Williams want to play for the Glorified HS Coach? IU isn't beating Purdue anytime soon.

As long as Brohm is coaching at Purdue, IU will not even get a sniff at the Bucket.

I said a while back I thought he was an IU lean, but that was when they were winning and had some momentum. They lost all of that and stumbled down the stretch. Empty seats everywhere. Also lots of uncertainty around their coach, where as Brohm just got a huge raise and turned down his alma mater to stay and build Purdue. Linebacker is the biggest question mark in the ‘19 class. I get it though, at the beginning of the season, Williams was very pro IU. That all kind of took a step back as the struggles started though.

Again, not saying you are wrong and we will have to wait it out but we are being told the exact opposite on our site. IU is really selling him on being the next Chris Covington and getting to the NFL.

If only Purdue had a linebacker just drafted last year that was playing at a high level for a team like... oh I don’t know, the Patriots? Maybe if they had a linebacker in the top of most statistics in the Big that would possibly be a junior? Too bad they don’t have either one of those....

I doubt there would be any impact. In fact, the recruiting by Brohm was said to have skyrocket last year, and with Purdue's name in the news along with Brohm will likely turn heads Purdue's way IMHO.

Totally agree on the national exposure. Just asking in regards to his recruiting sweet spot, the Louisville area.
I hope (and expect) any backlash by local yokels will only be temporary. Our 2019 class is almost complete, and I don't see a guy like Wright backing out because his friends, teachers, maybe even family are saying bad things about Purdue. And by this time next year I am guessing people will not be burning Brohm jerseys or making death threats. If the Brohm name runs even 1% as deep as our Louisville visitors have claimed, this should all blow over as soon as their new coach is named.

I think IU ends up with Williams, there's a lot of smoke there. I don't know if the academic questions have been cleared up. Brian's been saying for months that he's been unrecruitable for Purdue. if that's been cleared up and Purdue has room it would be great to have him. As it is, we're spanking IU in recruiting so not terrible concerned either way.

Purdue doesn’t want JJ Weaver
I think that's very untrue. Purdue would have loved to have him. The other schools hit him very heavy on the Brohm would be leaving talk and it did make an impact on him. I don't think Brohm staying changes the ground that Kentucky made up in the recruitment. Believe he wants to stay in state.

IU folks love to proclaim their academic prowess so this makes me scratch my head. Forgive my ignorance (been a long time since I was at Purdue and knew about admittance requirements) but are IU’s admittance requirements that different (lower) than Purdue’s where someone they are happy to take is “unrecruitable” by PU? I’d like to think so, it makes me smile :D

This story kept me somewhat mentally solvent during my 25 hour journey back from the Middle East yesterday. First time I have commented on the subject. Recruiting is the measurement I would use to let us know if this was a good investment. 2020 should be better than 2019 correct? If that trend continues the wins will take care of themselves. I don’t follow FB recruiting like I do BB. I know Purdue had a lack of size and to a lesser degree talent on the O line.

The question I have is that O and D line improving with recruiting?

I think the recruiting benefit is future more than present. Staying solidifies this year's class but his commitment to Puddle and his players will be rewarded by many such classes to come. I see a steady stream of players wanting to go to the NFL and have fun on the way coming our way over future seasons.

Purdue does want Weaver, but Weaver and Family didn’t have us in his final 3. Weaver is going to be a monster at the next level. It will be a quicker path to playing time for him at Kentucky, and my guess is that is where he ends up. Unless he picks the dumpster fire of Louisville, which he would be a day one starter.

I’m glad he’s not coming to Purdue for multiple reasons
