Recap vs Argentina

A little concerning that Wheeler and Eden's playing so little.
Not at all...newcomers to the program trying to bust through guys who have been playing for three to four years. If anything, I think it is good. Besides, they'll see lots of PT in the coming games where the competition may not be as good and CMP wants to rest the starters more.

Yes, eventually it will be. Perhaps too early to say. If the 2017s don't start rolling by Dec.then you can be very concerned about next year.

I made no mention of the regular season here. If there were no WUG this season...would you be worried that Ewing and Wheeler got little playing time against what would be considered a decent P5 team in December?

You also realize that Wheeler and Ewing are probably 9th and 10th on the depth chart, correct? For all those individuals who hated CMP's long bench a few years ago and wanted him to shorten it up, this is what you get. By the conference season, I highly doubt Wheeler and Ewing see more than 5-6 minutes of game time unless there is foul trouble, injury, or the game is in hand. With what Taylor has shown at this point, he and Haarms as Haas' backups will be more than enough. That leaves little for Ewing as Vince is going to be playing 30-34 minutes a game this season. With Cline, Mathias, Eastern, Boogie, and PJT taking the 1-3 spots...there just isn't going to be a lot of minutes to spread around to the 9th and 10th guys on the bench. It's a good problem to have.

It's the first real action game of their major college careers...take a slight step back from the ledge.

It sounds weird to say, but I'm not even really sure if it has much to do with those 2 guys right now. Jaquil & Grady have just been so steady and productive in their minutes thus far. The fact is they have been in the program for years and already know the expectations and effort level required. I think it's great to see those guys really seize the opportunity and run with it. Now if either begins to falter, I'm sure Wheels & Ewing are champing at the bit and are capable of contributing too.

Impressed with JT rebounding and the steady play of GE is surprising.

I would say that is a positive sign for this year and next.....but apparently long term thinking is discouraged here. :)

I have a feeling that the shooting will improve just simply because the first game nerves are out of the way.
I was able to watch the entire game this morning and I was happy with the effort and execution, we really just missed some open shots, and when painter has the younger lineup in with guys like Sasha, we appear to struggle a bit on the defensive end. I also believe that our guys have not quite found their rhythm yet.

Like what I'm seeing. Seniors playing as expected. Taylor, healthy at last, showing what we have hoped for. Carsen a fearless catalyst now with a year's experience. Eastern ready for prime time already.

A good team that looks to get better.

If Cline struggles shooting the 3 and doesn't improve his defense, I could see Wheeler taking his minutes. Wheeler, Eastern, and Taylor played the best as back ups. Taylor and Eastern will take the bulk of the backup minutes. Cline, Ewing, and Wheeler will have to battle for the remaining minutes. Wheeler has the biggest upside and to me has the best potential even now, but Cline's experience may give him the edge for now. Cline is also a good shooter and in many circumstances, that will get him on the floor especially since he has experience and chemistry. I wouldn't mind see a mix of Wheeler on games if the matchup dictates it. He looks special.

Forman tweeted that there were about ten charges called on Purdue. Not sure how legitimate they were, but that's the main reason for the high turnover number.
interesting...so purdue struggled getting used to teh arc and getting blocks due to position and now without the arc they they have to go back similar driving situations before the arc?

Don't get me wrong. I wasn't making a big deal of it, was just hoping their play would earn them a little more time. compleatly understand there is some stiff competition in front of them.

Excellent point. I hope to see more from Wheeler and Eden, but the fact is, many people here had completely written off Taylor and he is finally showing what he can do. Wait until he gets back into basketball shape. And Grady? He has been phenomenal with his productivity and playing to his strengths. Some of us knew/hoped this would be Taylor's coming-out year, but I doubt very many thought that Grady would be playing the way he is.

Next year will be a rebuilding year. Hopefully the program has reached the point where that means a top five finish in conference and second round of the NCAA. That team will be as good as Carsen will make it. If he explodes and puts the team on his shoulders he'll have enough complimentary pieces in Cline and JT as seniors and this year's newcomers to make some noise.

I always had high hopes for Taylor if he can stay healthy (though obviously not as high as Chevy52)

Grady, I am less surprised than most ever since I read an interview where Swanigan said Grady was his toughest challenge in practice and fought him hardest for every rebound. I am a fan of undersized scrappers....from Ben Wallace to Chuck Hayes

can you describe the ball and the nets in use? I know it has stripes. but is it a different size or texture than the normal ball Purdue will be using in NCAA play? Any observations about the poor 3 point shooting? Is it related to the ball? Coincidence ? or a trend?

I've played with a ball like it at a school intramural game and I'll say this...it was the biggest POS ball I've ever picked up. The UA ball Maryland used puts it to shame and I think that ball is a joke. Anytime any sort of moisture gets on that international ball, it immediately is almost impossible to handle. Think of a cheap outdoor volleyball from Walmart and make it the size of a basketball...there you go.
