Since I am a night owl and I love Red Bull, I've been browsing a Baylor forum this eve to get a feel for their perspective RE Brohm, and came across a lot of negative postings regarding their coaching position, future, etc etc. And these aren't "DUMPSTER-FIRE!!!!!" posts, rather just genuine posts that highlight genuine concerns. Recruiting, NCAA issues, "Texas" ties, rape culture, etc etc.

So, some of these are just opinions, but it gives a glimpse into the mindset of Baylor fan RE their own program and what they feel is to come, and what they feel they will have to overcome in the coming years. They highlight many of the issues/drawbacks that are being discussed in various places RE their coaching vacancy.

Of the candidates left Brohm would give Baylor the best credibility other than Miles. It's what Baylor needs worst of all. Whoever takes this job will know it will be the hardest job they will ever endure especially in recruiting. Recruiters will use the mess against us at every angle.

I think one of the biggest things that opposing coaches will use against us with recruits is to scare them with horror stories of what the NCAA might sanction us with. I don't expect the in NCAA to do much... but as long as it is unknown it will be used against us in recruiting

(RE: Brohm) Huge step forward from Grobe but a Giant step backward from Briles. Does this guy know a single soul in the state of Texas? This guy has zero clout with recruiting.

Monty (Phil Montgomery) or Miles or we are f*#%d. Total rebuild with Brohm and doubt he gets the six years plus it will take.

As I had said, if we had some vision after firing Briles at the time and hired an immediate head coach where we had more options then and not allowed the signed recruits to leave so stupidly we would not be in such bad shape. But no we gave ourselves the death penalty and expected a figure head coach with no clout let let things ride out. Stupid, just stupid.

Forget Briles. He wasn't coming back. It was done. It will not be fixed now as we had it. Hadn't happened in Baylor history before Briles, maybe had a chance just after him. But not now!! We're done.

I still don't think people outside the Baylor bubble realize just how toxic we are as an institution and program

Anyone associated with Baylor immediately must spend 60% of their time on Baylor rape culture issues and not coaching football

Imagine if you were asked to captain the Titanic 10 minutes after the iceberg - and had your salary immediately doubled?

Some things money can't buy

Maybe we will catch lightning in a bottle a second time but again
we are toxic as any program in the history of college football and that includes SMU and Penn State

I didn't think we would drop off so quickly. Beginning of the season we thought this season would be a farewell tour. Many predicted a minimum of 8 wins and many predicted 9. I am surprised how quickly we fell apart.

These next 3-4 years could be really ugly, no matter who is the coach.

Sure the casual college football fan outside the state of Texas doesn't much care what allegedly happened at Baylor......but the AD's and coaches across the P5 landscape do.

Any casual visitor to this fan site, reading the Briles loving, victim blaming, media bashing, BOR hating posts that dominate the narrative .....could easily conclude the BU fan base still doesn't get it. That they still value a 10-2 football season over coed safety.

Coaches with options....are nervous about tying their reputations to it. High school recruits with options....are concerned about attaching their NFL futures to it.

The BOR needs to allow your AD....to offer Les Miles whatever he wants. He's the one available coach who can overcome this morass and rebuild the program quickly.

Almost anyone else... actually willing to take this situation on... would be a crap shoot.

It took Art a quick 8 years without scandal. It will take longer for our next coach. I would encourage all Baylor fans to press reset on your expectations over the next few years. It will take another decade to distance ourself from this.

I have noticed many on here with delusions of where we are at and what kind of coach we will be getting. Let me break it down for you.

No good, up and coming head coach is going to come here. Why would they? Even if we money whip them, when they have multiple losing seasons in a row and they decide to ether leave or are fired, they will have nowhere to go.

We have nothing going for us. No family wants their kid to come play here. Hell, even Kansas is more attractive than Baylor right now. Recruiting to this school will be a nightmare. Sure our new coach will be given a lot of leeway and won’t be expected to win for a few years but he won’t be given the time needed because this is a 10 year rebuild job AT MINIMUM. Baylor isn't going to money whip some up-and-coming coach for 10 years with little to show for it. It's career suicide.
This coupled with the fact that we have no idea what the NCAA is going to do. More sanctions could very well be coming and we have no idea if/when they will hit. Hell, the NCAA could drag this out for years and no good coach wants that looming over their heads.

Any way you look at it, we're in for a long ride and we just have to hope that in a few years, when conference realignment happens, the Big 12 doesn't dissolve because if it does we will likely be left behind.

It's a hard pill to swallow but it's the truth.

There are dozens more. Took me about 10 min to wrangle up those to start the thread.

So, when you start to feel like our search is getting rough, just be thankful we aren't referred to as RapeU across the country. That our University isn't being universally mocked and degraded for atrocious horrible things that happened at the hands of Purdue Athletes. That possible crippling NCAA sanctions are not hanging over our program 24/7. That Purdue is not seen as a pariah to our conference, and a school that other members would like to throw out and replace...

(Please imagine the next paragraph in a screaming voice)...

Purdue University is a school built on integrity and academic excellence. "The Cradle of NASA Astronauts" and sometime quarterbacks! Les Miles, Nick Saban, Jeff Brohm, PJ Fleck, etc etc would be lucky to coach FOR US!!! I for one, will not let my love and pride in Purdue University be dictated by whether or not we can get the right coach to lead our football team!!

WE ARE!!! PURDUE!...no wait...

BOILER UP, HAMMER DOWN, HAIL PURDUE!

Thanks, great to feel a ray of hope. I'm down with Brohm or Rhule or Calhoun. Not with Spack or Holtz. Still had hoped for Fleck.

But Joe Tiller would disagree. Winning at Purdue is pretty hard....what else could be as bad?

Cleanface, go to bed and thanks for pulling the all nighter.....Good info!!

Penn State bounced back from their sanctions pretty quickly. Baylor had a murder scandal with their basketball team and they came back from that. Not saying they are in a better place than us for a prospective coach, but Texas recruiting will overcome everything in the long run.
