Another former WKU commit offered recently. Looks like his recruiting is really picking up with a number of P5 offers.

I'd be ok, but not overly excited. We don't have any RBs in this class, and should have at least one. there are other players I'm more interested in and other positions of greater needs.

Watch his highlight film. It is amazing he is not ranked higher. He is a big play type guy. Great for a change of pace. I wasn't huge on the idea of taking a RB with all of the other needs, but this kid looks special. I wasn't overly impressed with bishop and our other two star RBs have been dealing with injuries. He has overs from Tennessee and UNC. Both have two higher rated RBs already signed.

UNC has Branch as a verbal, who originally was a verbal for us before he reopened his recruitment.

that highlight reel is why I'm not a coach or a recruiter. The more good things I see, the more questions I have. By nature, I'm a very skeptical person, always seeking new information to verify and quantify. the kid looks great. My guess is a scout/recruiter/coach looks for different things than I would. That is why I base my thoughts on coach's offers rather than film highlights. I trust their judgement better than my own.

Just in case you guy haven't had a chance to check out his highlight video. This guys looks like a really good player. He has "Home Run" ability.

While I don't think he has truly elite speed, he does have the ability to get away from the defense. What makes him so special is his vision and his ability to make a sudden cut without losing much from his speed. In his film, you can consistently see him plant his foot and make a cut PRIOR to a defender or multiple defenders trying to make a tackle...he is essentially cutting in to an opening that WILL be there rather than an opening that is already there. I would say his vision is what makes him a high end prospect and separates him from other RB's.

You would have never offered Ryan Kerrigan. You would never have offered Drew Brees a scholarship to play QB.

You are right. I would have missed out on Drew Brees and many other Purdue hall of fame players, as would a lot of other college coaches. But, I'm not the only person who passed on Drew Brees

Loking back at history, using my criteria, I would have probably ended up with QB Kevin Long or Jeff Smoker instead of Brees.

You are aware that the recruit has to want to play for you too? You don't just draft whoever you want.

Coach Brohm is big on his team's flying around, both on Offense and Defense. With that said, I wonder if Markell(I love the dude) is gonna be the main man at RB, he's a grinder and a good one, but doesn't have tremendous speed that all coaches want.....no knock at Markell, he could play for me anytime, me wonders about what CJB thinks?
I guess that's why they practice. lol

I can't see why Jones would not be playing for Brohm, combo of power and speed, he can catch, has experience, hopefully he is fully recovered from the injuries he got this year

Yeah, jones isnt all that speedy, at least not when trying to get to the edge. He will play, but i think we will see a lot of Lankford Johnson too

Unless Purdue finds some OL candidates that can actually block, Jim Brown couldn't gain yardage with what Ina Haze left Purdue.

I like R. Worship's game alot, I wonder how he'll fit in the new plans. Hope he is having a good recovery too.

247 is predicting UNC

If he wants a quick path to playing time, Purdue is the best option. Jones is clearly our best option be he had injury issues. Knox was also hurt. We also currently have other backs in this current class. UNC and Tennessee both have two commits already that are higher rated. Not to mention we have the coaches who recruited him on our staff now. Purdue makes the most sense. If he doesn't pick Purdue it isn't the end of the world. RB isn't a position of great need as long as what he currently have stays healthy, but he would be a very good get. His vision down the field and his ability to cut and hit lanes is very impressive. He has good size an athleticism that I think he sees the field as a true freshman (at least on special teams). He would be at the back of the depth chart for his other options, where as at Purdue he could move up very quickly.

Earlier I said I would judge coaches, internet rankings and offers over highlight reel films. but as discussed here in the past couple of days, internet sites are not always up to date and offers are not always accurate, and recruits are not always truthful in their tweets or contacts with recruiting sites. That former Minn/IU recruit having the hat party comes to mind. I'm not sure how fast this running back is, or how good his competition was, but he appears allusive and very hard to bring down.

Good idea here. I wonder with the new staff and a healthy Knox/Jones and speedy Lankford-Jones if Worship may find a new position of high need...possibly DE?

The thing Tiller was able to do when he got to Purdue was to evaluate every player and determine where that player would help the program the most. A manager on staff for Purdue in Tiller's early years who now coaches said that Tiller's philosophy for offense was essentially sliding guys a position inside from where they played before. Essentially TE's becomes tackles (Matt Light), OT's became guards, and guards became centers.

Don't forget that one of the really good OL in Tiller's middle years went from a DT to guard and played 5 or 6 years in the pros Uche Nwaneri.

Brohm's offense is "Multiple". Richie, if healthy, will fit into the run game nicely. We will still have short yardage situations using a fullback or h-back. Also, Richie has decent hands and can make catches in space. Purdue will keep Richie right where he is.

He has a visit scheduled for 27 January. Hopefully we'll have an RB coach by then. It's odd with all the other meticulous actions Brohm has made, he has purposely left that coaching position open. There has to be a behind the scenes reason/factor.

Is it nice to know that you have a coach that has a plan and a strong possibility that his method or plan has a very good chance of working.........

Next man up...Nicholas Sims visiting Wednesday per TOS

Sims reminds me heavily of Markell Jones. A good runner with deceptive speed (timed his 40 from his first highlight on a long TD where he had 45 yards free ahead of him: roughly 4.45 in full pads in a game...not bad) and uses a quick upfield cut on most of his runs. He isn't going to shake and bake guys but he makes a solid single cut and gets up field. This is a player Purdue would be lucky to land as he appears to have solid potential and can bring along slowly behind a solid stable of RB's in Jones, Knox, Fuller, and Johnson. Possibly get him on KR's with Kimbrough his freshman year.
