Purue.

How many assists? How many did his man score? Shooting ain't the whole game. He looked VERY GOOD shooting it. I know he's a decent defender but he's always gotten beat too much which was ok when we had Zach back there. Now, not so much.
4 assists. Teammates missed some that they will hit. He scored more than his defender. Do you remember when he shut down TSJ at Illinois? How about Walker at Mackey in back to back games?

Van Vleet: is 6 foot, but went undrafted after his senior year and Wichita State going through an undefeated regular season(Final Four the prior year)

Chris Paul: 6 foot, drafted 4th in 2005 after his sophomore year.

Mike Conley: Also 6ft, drafted 4th in 2007 after his freshman year.

Kyle Lowry: Also 6ft, drafted 24th in 2006 after his sophomore year.

Jose Alvarado: 6ft, undrafted in 2021 after his senior year.

Jordan McLaughlin: 6 ft, undrafted in 2018 after his senior year.

Aaron Holiday: 6 ft, 23rd in 2018 after his junior year.

Davion Mitchell: 6 ft, 9th in 2021 after his redshirt junior year.
What about Payton Pritchard

Yea that was Chris Paul. Are we really going to say Smith is the level of Chris Paul? The guy that was drafted 4th overall and is considered the "point-god?"
He doesn’t have to be drafted 4th overall. But if he plays like he did the other night he will be a first round pick for sure. If you disagree you didn’t watch the game.

Like I said, you believe everything you hear in a press conference after the game? I thought you were smarter than that. What Painter said at his press conference is coach speak. He’s not going to throw his players under the bus. He’s going to take all the blame. Creighton was exactly who he thought they were. Our team just wasn’t prepared enough. And looking back at previous Painter press conferences, he’s going to take the blame And will never reveal publicly why certain players didn’t receive playing time? How many times has Painter said after the fact I should have played player x more, And each time he says it, you actually believe him! A famous person once said if you lie loud enough and long enough, people will believe the lies. What you heard was coach speak and you believed it. It’s like listening to Walters after a football game. Are you going to tell me you believe Walters too? And you can’t see through his words for what they are? It’s just coach talk! And you drank the kool aide
This one is classic Wole. I can’t believe you are suggesting painter would lie at a press conference because you are too narcissist to admit you were wrong. How the heck would they have even scouted them in the first place? He also did say he meant to play Heide more at the 4 and it just didn’t happen this isn’t little league where the coaches calculate out minutes on a plan ahead of time. He wanted to try out different matchups to learn from it. Paint has a reputation for being one of the most honest and direct coaches.

As strange as it sounds, I think that Painter prefers coming out of these games with a (competitive) loss, so as to keep players on edge for practices before the season starts.
Yes he actually said that at the press conference and I found it very strange

I just know the NBA isn't a fan of 6ft point guards. Honestly, even if he measured out at just 6-1, he'd have a better chance. Just the way the NBA works. Because at 6-0, you better be a pretty well built and a dawg like Davion Mitchell is. I think if he could pack on another 10-15 pounds, he'd be in better shape. He's also going to have to ball out this year as the #1 guy. He'll have a microscope on him unlike the last 2 years. You either get exposed to scouts or they like you.

6-1, 190ish. Was drafted 26th after averaging 20.5ppg his senior year at Oregon. Was a 1st team All-American. Unfortunately we didn't get a glimpse of what he could do in the tourney his sr year because of COVID.
Jj barrea made $44m in the nba.

How many all Americans (1-3rd team) were under 6’? It’s not just an nba thing it’s tough to be as good as Braden has been in college at under 6’ as well.

I trust CMP ! , follow up lunch today I told him he needs to crack down on these boys, tighten it up, and Jacobsen if he can't play D !, it's the practice squad, we don't need 3 pt shooters, man up, put your big boy pants on and gain 200lbs, start eating. Also Braden needs to shoot better , we need 45 per game from him. Outside that Cox and Harris need to find their balls. Berg if he's gonna foul out in the first 5 min take someone out.
CMP understand s he's on probation !, just because he made it to the finals !, he still lost Edey to the NBA. Outside that it was a nice lunch.

So are you just saying underclassman? Cuz smith is a junior now…I think he COULD get drafted after his senior year.

Smith may not be a lottery pick but he’ll get drafted. What happens after that is yet to be determined. IU fans are just jealous. They think his numbers are gonna drop off a cliff as teams game plan against him.

And you blindly believed him? Have I got a political candidate for you!
Blindly? Purdue fans have been listening to him and watching him for 20 years.

In the times we have seen you post on this board, you have lied too many times to count. So you accusing Matt Painter of lying is laughable.

You are really stretching it here.....6'1" compared to 6' is pretty laughable. I was hoping you were joking but then I realized you are an IU fan 😂

So the NBA doesn't have a hard, set rule that they are not allowed to draft anyone under 6'1.0000"? It's some sort of unwritten rule that owners and GMs won't dare violate?

But to your other point, based on what I have seen from Smith, he relishes being under the microscope and proving himself.

And if Yogi were 6-2, he'd still be in the NBA.
What!!!?? No way.....

He started off good and that's what landed a FA deal. You don't get an NBA deal off of your height but rather production. His production fell dramatically his last few years....it wasn't good.

NO, if Yogi was good enough he would still be in the league! He had a good career at IU, but was way over hyped!
I'm not sure how a kid who went undrafted can be over hyped lol. He's Indianas all time assists leader and I think Top 10-15 in scoring. He's way up there on 3pt makes as well I think. He was just small and it's difficult to make it when you're small. He played well and had some big moments. Just wasn't an opportunity for him at the time.

I’ll ask another question you can all disagree with. If Painter wasn’t playing to win and if this game was truly just an exhibition like the majority of you claim it was. Why did 4 players play 30+ minutes. What did Smith need to prove by playing 30+ minutes in an exhibition? What did the other 3 players have to prove playing 30 minutes in an exhibition.

I thought you said this game was just an exhibition!

I sure looked like Painter took the game seriously and played to win, sort of like he takes every game seriously and plays to win.

Painter is not some AAU coach who just throws players on the court and lets them do their thing!

Painter prepares and coaches every single game trying to win. And if you’ve ever watched a Purdue game or painter coach, you would know that’s true.

So if Painter said he didn’t scouts team, I call that total BS. As I said, painter is not an AAU coach. He prepared this team to play. And preparation includes scouting. No matter what he tells the press.

Ask yourself when was the last time painter ever revealed anything to the press about his game preparation?

Saying that is kind of like painter saying, I was just recruiting Haralson and Catchings and Mullings because I heard they were pretty good and they had really high ratings!

Give Painter some credit! He does a lot more than he will ever reveal to the media. And he will never criticize a player or throw them under the bus publicly!

Sure I do. not like I said he sucks on D. I Do think Zach led to a tendency to not worry too much about getting beat. Against Creighton that led to a lot of layups.

Ok can you pleas interpret all his press conferences going forward since he apparently lies in all of them (your words not mine).

He played 2 players 30+ min, and another 28 min. Those 3 happen to be the nucleus of the team and I would assume he played the other 9! players in different mixtures with that nucleus to see how different looks work together. This is likely also why he didn't play Heide, Furst, or Colvin very much (16 min or less each) as he has already had more than a year to evaluate what he gets from them with or without those others on the court.

This was in a way a tryout for early year minutes. it was meant to see how the freshmen/deep bench players played with the core so that next week he knows who he can depend on to be in the rotation and who needs more time to develop.

Don’t confuse him with logic and reason. Bigs don’t understand why you feel the need to die on the sword for this. I’m sure there are plenty of other ridiculous notions you can put forth to debate.
