Had the opportunity to attend my first live sporting event since the start of the pandemic, a US Women’s Open Qualifier outside of Chicago.
5 girls from the Purdue Golf team participated in the 36 hole event, with top two of ~ 50 qualifying for the US Women’s Open at Olympic Club.
Purdue had a really strong showing today. They didn’t qualify (one of the qualifiers is a LPGA pro), but two are the first and second alternatives. So two finished T-3 (only one stroke off 2nd), one finished 5th only two strokes off second (missed birdie on her 36th hole by inches after a bogey-double bogey on 34th & 35th). 4th finished T-9 and the 5th girl finished T-14. With a 9 on a par 4. If that 9 was a 5 she finishes T-6.
Overall great day for them today. 2 freshman, 2 sophomores, and a junior. Should continue to be a few good years of the golf team.
Lots of other B1G ten and Midwest represented out there, few from Northwestern, Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Vanderbilt, HS freshman from Carmel.
