Thread for tonight’s season opener, starting with the availability report courtesy of the Big Ten.

Jordyn Poole, McKenna Layden, Mila Reynolds and Alaina Harper out. No surprises there.

What's wrong with each of them? I knew Poole had some injury preventing her from playing in Iberia, but i don't believe I've heard what's hampering the others.

Layden: stress fracture in foot
Reynolds: wrist and had surgery
Harper’s is undisclosed.

Some players do well coming off the bench and others struggle in that role. Swanson needs to start in my opinion. She has struggled tonight coming off the bench but starting to get in the flow now. Maybe I'm being just too critical.

Nice win. Maybe not as dominating as I would like. But Purdue Fort Wayne has a nice little team and they play hard. Turnovers (as usual) and defense are concerning after watching this game.

Lana McCarthy is going to be a very, very good player. Kendall Puryear is impressive too. She also has a unique looking shot. But it seems to be effective.....so hopefully they don't mess with it.

I really like what I see so far from Destini Lombard. A very good defender that can make shots and handle the ball. She's going to play a lot.

Jayla Smith played with confidence for the second straight game. Hopefully it becomes the norm for her.

Reagan Bass does a lot of things well. She's going to play a lot too.

Sophie Swanson had a quiet game. Her shots just weren't falling. But she had a couple nice drives.

Have to take better care of the ball and improve the defense if they want to compete with Notre Dame. But bring them on......hopefully Mackey is packed and we give them a game.

I didn't see the game, but any insight into why Purdue gave up 34 points in the 4th quarter (44% of the PFW total)?

Was it defensive lapses by Purdue? Gearlds going deep into the bench? Did PFW just play harder down the stretch?

PFW is projected 3rd in the Horizon league, Cleveland St who is projected to win the conference, got skull drug by OSU 104-69. I very much doubt there are more than 1 or two Big Ten teams PFW could beat if they played them all.

I was out last night , so could not listen to the game, but followed along a little on ESPN watching the box score. I did look into the play by play after the game and it seemed like over half McCarthy's points came off O boards and putbacks. That's impressive and concerning at the same time. How was our post passing or was that the source of a lot of the turnovers? Puryear meanwhile got her points off jumpshots, not layups, so guessing short jumpers from the paint? While they both had good games, they should have, PFW didn't play anyone over 6'1" I believe, and that girl was their leading scorer against us. Destini looks great so far in box scores. Sophie obviously had a tough night, but certainly not the worst night..... Petree only played 11 minutes but managed to go 1-7 in that short span. Smith, Jones or neither, you just never know which is going to play well frmo game to game, and neither have strung together anything like a consistent string of good games, much less great ones..... Maybe its my faulty memory on that, but the two of them seemed wildly maddenly inconsistent last season (and longer for Smith), so its going to take a lot to win me over on those two, especially Smith the senior. With Madison, Mila and Alaina all out hurt, Bass has to play a lot, but this game did not make her look great in the box scoreconsidering she was guarded by shorter players all night. Amiyah is still lost in the sauce somewhere, and we need her to find her game again soon or Poole to be able to play, because we need one of them out there with Lombard and Swanson or its going to be a rough year. Still not seen much from Collier to justify giving her a scholarship, much less much playing time.

McCarthy did a good job sealing her opponent on alot of her O. Rebounds. She has a nice touch around the rim, but we didn't see alot of post moves tonight.

Petree took some questionable shots for my liking, considering she's an upperclassmen.

Jones wasn't efficient offensively but you can see she's just more comfortable out there, and seems to be the alpha of the team. Most vocal player.

Yeah puryear had alot of short jumpers from inside the paint. She has a high release point that will make it hard for defenders to block. It's a bit funky, but just wait till you see where Lombard lines up from on the FT line.

Lombard did stand out though. I'd like to see her gamble less on steals, but she brings much needed athleticism to the team. She'll be a big contributor all season. She can fly.

PFW sped up the game with a press, but also a combo of defensive lapses, Purdue trying out different combination of players.

Thank you very much for your input, what was your impression of Bass against PFW?

We will learn a lot more about McCarthy and Puryear after Sunday's game as they will be going up against a 6'5" top 5 recruit freshman center for ND. Our one bright spot is there is little post depth behind Koval for ND so if we get her in foul trouble we have a small chance of staying close in this game.
