Excluding Swanigan which team has the best core....I dont feel like this is a Purdue vs Duke, UK, etc comparison. Purdue has a solid squad right now and if we get decent frosh to soph progression we will have a solid year. So why does everyone think Cal is the favorite. If we were competing against UK...no brainer he goes to UK...but i dont think feel that cal has much more than nicer weather to offer as a guarantee!

I don't think it really matters if Swanigan wants to play with his two buddies. When Swanigan talked about a business decision when he chose MSU, I think that he was saying they he was choosing the school that he thought he should choose, rather than what he wanted to choose. In truth, he was never committed to MSU. His heart has been with Cal ever since the three talked about playing together, IMO.

The problem will be when the other two go to the NBA after a year and Swanigan isn't ready.

Cal will be good for one year and then lose almost all of its starters. I'm sure Swanigan views himself as a one and done guy, as players always have an over-inflated sense of where they stand.

I think he knows Purdue is the place to be though with him we are primed for a FF. I'm sure he knows Ray to some extent. It also seems like PJ knows nearly every person we have been recruiting so that helps. He knows he will be guatenteed too many touches here to turn down.

The Cal board says why would anyone go to West Lafayette when they can live in Berkeley? They pretty much are assuming CS will go to Cal.
I, of course, disagree but they seem really full of themselves.

Ahhh, California! The land of fruits and nuts!!

Little by little the state is self destructing . . .

Granted, W. Laf. won't ever be confused with a thriving, bustling metropolis but . . . For a Midwest kid, it is a very nice small city where the University is the hub of what goes on. Probably not the place for a liberal but, if you have solid values and tend to be at least leaning toward conservative, not a bad place to be at all. Certainly, if CS wants to feel close to family, friends, etc Cal will obviously tax him and his family. Television & webcasts will never replace knowing someone is right there and your support after games is a handshake/hug away.

Go Boilers!

Since when did Cal even have a fan base? I understand they're good academically, and I applaud that from any university who sees the Student in student athlete more important than the athlete part. But seriously, all of a sudden these kids are coming out of the wood works, saying why go to Purdue when you can go to Cal? California is a lovely state, don't get me wrong, if you're ready to retire and settle down. Or if you want to drink 20 ounces of water a day...

I'd prefer drinking a gallon plus of water, avoiding wild fires, earthquakes, temptation, while working hard for what you earn, rather than living in paradise as an 18+ year old kid, believing you already made it before you earn it.

Go to Purdue CS, we have a proven basketball pedigree, we pride ourselves in basketball, you have a proven coach, probably the most physically dominating centers in the league to play besides, meaning you can expose your mismatch at the 4, and stay humble as a player. It's a no brainer.

Dude: Shocky (and maybe one or two others) may be saying that, but that's it. Credit us with enough intelligence to realize that Swanigan is not picking a school based on the weather, the cuisine, or some other bogus criteria. As for where he ends up, the Cal boards are full of posts from Cal fans who have either expressed their (understandable) uncertainty or even skepticism about getting him.
