So did Purdue play horrible against Louisville because these top players knew they were going to the transfer portal already? I look how non-existent they were in this match along with showing little emotion. Raven, a senior seemed like the only star who was really into it. How do you not get up for this match? Our coach even seemed shocked and said they were not ready to play in the interview. Wandering minds I guess. This whole thing is strange where these 3 players make the announcement right at the same time.

Don't know about the word conspiracy but I have to think those gals just all of a sudden didn't decide after that match. Things like that had to be in the thought process well before that and they had a clue what they were going to do. Also wonder if or what other schools had already contacted them. I still wonder if it was just $$$$.

Could the recent addition of the USC transfer, and any monetary incentive she potentially received, have added to this discontent and portal moves? Seems coincidental.

I guess this possibility is one that could have some merit. I probably should have worded my post title differently, but I hope they don't all 3 end up at the same school, like Louisville. That said, what a gut punch if they all oddly ended up somewhere like at Indiana for $ reasons. I read where Indiana was an up-and-comer for volleyball.

I hate the way college sports has changed, but I guess I might as well get used to it or stop following.

Don’t think for a second that this was a spur of the moment decision. They were and continue to be offered and poached by the top 5 schools. And it’s all about the money as it should be. The top 15 teams including Purdue have good to great facilities. Purdue possibly pays 2 levels , stars and then the rest of the roster. And we couldn’t or wouldn’t match the $$$ from the other schools

I very much doubt 5 players all left at the same time over money. This reeks of there being an issue on the team and/or with the coaches. Didn't Shondell's brother leave mid season over something?

4 players, one was expected, the Penn (Carr) girl didn’t play a lot at the end of the season, the Big 3 are odd though, my guess is that its money, after college the opportunity to make a lot of money in Volleyball is iffy, guessing they got offered a nice deal to come to a certain program or two. My guess is Nebraska, Wisky, Penn State. Purdue will get some good portal players to replace them, just a notch below their level.

I don't buy it, they are good players, but not good enough to risk being put on probation for tampering for. Collectively with a good base of other players they get you to a top 16 team. On a top 4 team they are depth or third OH level players. Why would Nebraska pay enough to move them all for rotation players when they have better on their bench now waiting for their chance to shine?

Hudson is an All American, Chloe was Second team, trust me, these two are instant starters at Nebraska next year if this is where they go. I found it odd that it was a Nebraska fan site that broke the news.

Also, hopefully they’re shopping around trying to get Purdue to increase funds and return, I doubt this is the case but one never knows these days.

Re: "And it’s all about the money as it should be."

I couldn't disagree more with this statement. There are many considerations, both tangible and intangible. For example, unless Hudson was unable to play next year due to a injury, there would be a banner with her name on it as one of the best VB players in Purdue's history at the end of her career. Perhaps it's just me, but that would be worth a lot more than what I believe a would be the differential in NIL she would receive at Purdue vs. another school.

lol no one is being put on probation for tampering. The NCAA won’t and can’t do anything about it. Even if they tried to punish a team for tampering, they’d get taken to court and lose instantly. If the NCAA hasn’t done anything about the 10,000 athletes that have transferred in the past 2 years, they sure as hell aren’t going to do anything about a volleyball player.

Plus Hudson and Chloe are good enough to start and play anywhere, these aren’t rotation players. My guess is Hudson is the #1 ranked player in the portal, Chloe is top 5 probably higher. Hudson is a first team All American, unless another All American transfers which is possible she would have to be #1. Purdue will likely get good players to come here, still a top 10–15 Volleyball school, players can earn money through sales of jerseys and what not, Purdue sells out every game, I doubt many other schools do that.

Supposedly Shondell is desperately trying to find money to pay Hudson and Chloe, Chloe is following Louisville it seems, if both do end up leaving Purdue will likely get good ones to replace them, obviously a step below but this is still one of the nations best programs.

In a world and time of money in sports at all levels it is definitely, "SHOW ME THE MONEY" for most!

I agree , the Jersey hanging in the rafter idea doesn’t fly . Maybe regretting it when they are 50 but not now . It’s always about the money and can’t blame them

College Athletics is now and forever professional and if you are a school who don't have Billionaire and Millionaire annual donors those schools are screwed. Some might try to steer most of the money to sports that generate money but they would be walking a fine line in the courts.

Colleagues, I do not follow v-ball, and I am quite surprised there is any big money in it, if there is. What would be the driving factor for luring transfers in a money-losing sport?

Is it gambling?

Lizzy Carr’s brother plays basketball for UK. So I’m sure that was a driving factor to land at UK.

I’m a Lizzy fan. She is a very nice young lady. It is unfortunate that a 6’-6” outside hitter couldn’t earn more PT in two years with the program. I’m not certain that Lizzy is going to develop more than she has at this point.

There’s not a lot of money in it, there’s few programs that draw lots of fans and have boosters that fund it, all in the Final 4 have a system better than Purdue. Purdue’s players have made decent money from their jersey sales and what not, however, additional money while there is behind the top tier. If these two really good players leave Purdue will get good ones to replace them because there’s some money to be made, the players will be a notch below Chloe and Eva though.

She’s a nice player but she’s not a great athlete, she lost PT late in the season, this move didn’t surprise me, Lourdes in her 6th year might want something different, that’s fine, it’s the other two that are tough pills to swallow, hoping beyond hope that they’re keeping options open and return, I did read that Coach Shondell is frantically trying to find money to compensate them. If both return and Purdue adds another upper tier transfer or two this is a team that can possibly reach a Final 4.

I have no idea as to NIL money involved for Hudson, but if Purdue was within 70-80% of her best offer and there wasn't any other overriding factor, I believe a little wisdom shared from the parents would make the legacy banner a consideration.

Hudson’s parents are well to do doctors. She isn’t hurting for money. Maybe hurt pride that she isn’t “worth” what the Nebraska and Wisconsin players are making.

I’m guessing her deal is all about winning a Natty and not money!!

Hudson is officially gone - has posted a nice farewell message thanking the fans etc. A class act for someone who has been here a 3 years. On the other hand - Chloe is gone as well but she has been completely mum about it. No posts - nothing. She has removed PurdueVB from her IG handle. So that's it for her. Pretty disappointing for a home town kid to not even do a farewell post. I would assume PSU is in play for her considering she has was previously committed there before their coach retired. Their new coach is proving her worth and has them in the Final 4 - so I wouldn't be surprised to see her go there.

Here's my assumption - the first to enter the portal was Chloe, for whatever reason, but she has been doing social media ADs nonstop since she arrived here so I assume NIL is a big factor for her - and then Eva - with only one year left of eligibility figured her only chance of making the F4 with Purdue was up in smoke without her here - decided to enter the portal as well. - Just my assumptions as someone completely non affiliated with the program.

This is as good a theory as any I guess…. No one knows for sure, and it may not ever be known, but dang this is so disheartening.
Being old, and old- fashioned, is not going to serve me well in this new era of college sports. Adapt and survive or get left in the dust… hope Coach Shondell is better at this than I am.

Hopefully the pay is enough to keep our coaches enthused enough about the job to keep this team competitive. In this ever changing environment, I know I wouldn’t be. College sports are really no longer. Good for the current student athletes, but not so much for the fans of the game.

Hudson possibly to Louisville? It is what it is, Purdue will likely get good players in the Portal to replace them, hopefully close to their level.

A number of posters on the other board are suggesting that EH was not a good teammate. I have no idea what the true story is. Personally, unless it is a graduate student transfer, I prefer no farewell message because it just seems to be disingenuous to me.

This is my take on this. Not a big deal that Carr or Myers moved on. Good kids but not great at VB. If they were looking at having more playing time that is fine.
Chloe and Eva are no longer considered Boilermakers to me. Wish them nothing but the worst

I can’t do that, they did what they thought was best for them, it sucks but while I won’t root for them I certainly wish them no ill will.

EH called out her teammates not long ago for not caring and laughing and joking after a loss, maybe some were just happy playing on the team? I do know this, I watched both games yesterday, Purdue nowhere near that level, Purdue had 3 excellent players surrounded by 4 mediocre/pretty good ones, these teams had 6-7 standouts, there’s the difference.

I was thinking the same thing. Hudson is the best player on a good program, but in any of the 4 teams yesterday she's not a star, just a rotational player .

I think she woud be a star but just one of the stars(not the best of the group). But, that is why the top few teams are so good. They are loaded and most of their players are satisfied with that rather than being the top one or two stars on a lesser team

The whole issue of the players laughing, etc. is everywhere in VB. Hell, the Nebraska players were 2 points away from being beaten in the 5th set after leading 2 sets to 0 and they were laughing and smiling on the floor. I see it at all the womans VB games. Maybe it is that most ladies just don't react as angrily as most men do when they lose.

I don't know, I've been married 38 years and my wife can put me through hell sometimes when I beat her in Scrabble. I definitely don't smirk when I win two in a roll.

On our team, she was considered the star. I think not so much on these top tier teams. Then just one of the stars. She may like that, she may not, in time.
