Nage: Not that it makes any difference, but what makes you think Spike is starting instead of PJ. I personally like that lineup but I think PJ will start.

Kinda wondering the same thing, but thought Spike played well last game. He seems to be improving every game since the exhibition game. I think he could start by the Big Ten, but I can see Matt with his experience starting him as well...it would settle some nerves and with a few punishing trips against a trap or press...it could help Purdue as well. Still, I'll be somewhat surprised...

Agree. I told my son Friday night that I would like to see Spike play as many minutes as he can physically handle. Love the experience and the calming influence he can have.

I really think that Painter likes subbing Spike and Carsen for PJ and Haas at the first substitution. At that point, the offensive approach switches from spread the floor and toss it inside to an approach that relies far more on dribble penetration.

being an old man...I like old men's game!

Well, PJ needs the bigs to be effective unless the other perimeter players are playing well and he can have the same role with a smaller team. I'm sure there is also some study in how much Haas can go in a row. Still, I agree with your points. Carsen is instant offense and coming off the bench is a nice push for Purdue. Spike is soooooo crafty and can hit it. I'm quickly becoming a fan of his and wondering what happened in high school that Purdue never got him. I hope tomorrow villanova is trying to match Purdue instead of Purdue matching Villanova. I look for a great game.

It's his write up and projection. Who really cares?
I started it by asking Nage why he thought Spike was going to start. Just was curious why he thought that (I have no problem with it). I want as much Spike as he can handle.

I agree here....think CMP will stick with PJT starting out. It's a good change of pace with the first round of subs. However, CMP has his work cut out managing the rotation for this game with being so short-handed.....that's even without any projected foul trouble.

Injecting who you want to start instead of who is likely to start makes you look silly.
bitching about an amateur free message board write up from a guy that has traditionally done them out of the kindness of his heart make you look like an iu fan in desperate need of a safe space. You could have just said "I think PJ is likely to start". jeez.

And that is an opinion you are entitled to as well. If it was someone other than Nag (appropriate moniker there), I likely would have.

Yep, your post made sense. I'd be curious to what it is projected on (something he heard, wishful thinking, etc.)

I believe that Spike has been outplaying P.J. (in the team scrimmage, in the exhibition vs. USI, possibly in the WVU scrimmage?, and in the McNeese State opener). That's why I'm projecting him to start.

Makes sense whether it happens or not. Thanks for putting these together every game Nage.

No problem, although I haven't been getting the stats put in on time as much in recent seasons. Right now, there is no internet connection at my residence, so I've been having to ask friends and family if I can use theirs in order to do things like this.

Smotherman will be much needed tonight, especially on defense. (Rebounding)

Keys of the game for Purdue will be to rebound, stay out of foul trouble, get other team in foul trouble, control the tempo, hit the mid-range open shot and hit the free throws.....

Going to be a close one with the winner winning by less than 5......

I am a homer so I say Purdue but honestly it is a toss up with them having the experience and us having the home floor advantage.

Purdue needs a quick start to stay in this and keep it close......

I say final score is Purdue 83 Villanova 81.

Boiler Up!
