Purdue line prediction at MSU

Unfortunately I believe MSU's performance yesterday will deprive us of a third win against a ranked team this season.

I think this is a tiller era thing ... I don’t think this team loses to teams cause they’re up from a let down the previous week.

You misunderstood. I'm not expecting a letdown. I'm expecting M$U to drop out of the rankings after yesterday.

They will be out. Both teams will be ready to play so it will be fun.

If the offense plays the way they have in the last 4 weeks, they will win in Eek Lansing.

Felton Davis just tore his achilles. MSU has very few guys left at WR and Lewerke hurt himself vs PSU and didn’t practice all last week. Played hurt v UM and looked awful out there.

MSUs #1 and #3 CB didn’t play either vs UM. MSU has a good defense but we can’t score right now. We just got LJ Scott back so if we win on Saturday it’s because we got the ground game going. MSU runs for 200 yards we have a chance to win.

If your offense can manage 4 TDs that’s enough to beat us. Most we’ve scored against a P5 team this year on offense was 21 vs IU and 21 v PSU. We scored 35 vs IU but had a ST and defensive TD

Some MSU fans think Lewerke will be out this week with his throwing arm shoulder injury. He was flat out bad last week trying to play through it.

That’s a tough injury for Davis. He was putting together a really good year, and looking good for the draft. I’m glad we don’t have to face him, but wish it was just a sprained ankle or something and he could return to help you guys stomp OSU.

I haven’t seen MSU play, so wanted to ask how is your pass rush this year? It tends to be the reason our offense struggles, when it does. I know your run D is good, but Brohm is perfectly fine throwing 50 times.

I haven't watched any MSU this year. They always seem to have a good D, with good ends and a really good playmaking LB. I expect Brohm to be able to scheme his way into matchups he can take advantage of. Obviously, that will include a heavy dose of Moore but we also saw Moore used as a decoy for big plays against OSU.
Our D will do more of the bend/dont break variety. Don't give up big plays, make MSU sustain long drives and tighten up in the redzone.

Purdue will face the toughest defense yet. I think they can get to the 30’s and I think MSU will end up in the 14-28 range.

Keys for Purdue:
The big play
Knox broke the spirit of OSU on two long third down runs for touchdowns. Purdue was methodical down the field, taking what was given in long drives. This worked out perfect against OSU because it kept their offense cold and out of rhythm. It will be different against MSU. Pile up the points because they can’t keep up.

Play with the lead
If Purdue can get out to an early lead, they can take the crowd out of it. Forcing MSU to play from behind is important. MSU doesn’t have a great offense so they are going to hope to keep it close to win.

Read that MSU is pretty banged up. Is this on both sides of the ball. Didn't they lose their #1 receiver? QB walking wounded also, right?

Offense is injured. Defense is healthy outraged a couple secondary players.

We will need to get a lead and run the ball to beat you guys.

Current list of MSU injuries:
WR Felton Davis: Out (Achilles) (WR 1)
TE Noah Davis: Out (Undisclosed)
DL Mufi Hunt: Out (Knee)
OL Dimitri Douglas: Out (Achilles)
CB Josiah Scott: Out (Knee)
DE Dillon Alexander: Out (Foot)
OL David Beedle: Out (Arm)
P Jake Hartbarger: Out (Leg)
WR Cody White: Out (Hand) (WR 2)
QB Brian Lewerke: Shoulder (Questionable)
LB Ed Wariner: Undisclosed (Questionable) (no 2018 stats)
WR Brandon Sowards: Lower Body (Questionable) (WR 4)
RB Alante Thomas: Undisclosed (Questionable) (1 carry)
CB Josh Butler: Undisclosed (Questionable) (8 tkl)
WR Jalen Nailor: Undisclosed (Questionable) (WR 5)
WR Darrell Stewart Jr.: Undisclosed (Questionable) (WR 3)

A more knowledgeable MSU poster can correct those WR numbers if they aren't quite correct but they appear to be lacking in the pass catching department with their two best being out for the season and their next three being questionable this weekend.

I think Holt will employ a similar tactic to what we saw against BC that may mix in more coverage with a single high safety that brings Thieneman down to the LOS in run support.

Yes, and their running game isn't that good either. Fun fact: DJ Knox has more rushing yards and touchdowns than all MSU running backs combined.

How did lewerke not practice all week when the msu OC said he practiced and seemed fine all week.

Michigan State has a solid D. Despite their offense nearly putting up a goose-egg (only scored after a TO gave them the ball on the 6), they were still in the game late.

I saw several people say last night that Purdue opened as the favorite. Vegas Insider had it opening MSU -1 and moving to MSU -2. Different sources I guess but I usually trust VI.

I swear I saw Purdue -1 briefly last night but it went quickly to -2. So fast that it may have been a typo.

You're not the only one. I think Mike Carmin tweeted it also. May have been legit somewhere, but a quick "correction." I figured it would open MSU -3 and then maybe work its way toward Purdue during the week.

I caught just a few minutes of their game this past weekend, and the announcer said one of their WR’s playing was a CB to start the year. So yeah whenever you are flipping cb’s to wr’s mid-season, and you have to play them meaningful snaps, you’ve got some injury issues.

If I’m Holt, I’d load the box all day and make them throw... if they beat us throwing, so be it.

Purdue should be favored in this game - and I'm not saying that as a reverse psychological ploy or anything. We are extremely banged up - not sure if our offense can put points up. Our defense has played pretty well - even last week, but just got worn out from being on the field too much.

The question I would have is does Purdue have a major letdown after last weekend's big win over OSU.

We will have some sort of a letdown, just hope we snap out of it early in the game and score enough points to put pressure on the MSU offense, don't want to play from behind in this one

Wow! That is brutal! Do you know if the two offensive linemen were regular contributors?

It's a road game, Dantoni is a good coach, and their defense is tough. This would be the toughest test on Brohmfense this year. So far, none of the teams we have faced were known for their defense. Even OSU had been criticized for their sub-par (for their standard) defense.

Having said that, I am not really scared of this game. No, I don't think it's a sure win, but it's definitely a game that we can win if we execute it right. The way I see it, MSU defense is a talent upgrade of Northwestern and our offense was neck-to-neck with those guys even during struggles. I'm not really scared of their offense this week as their QB and WRs are all banged up in the Michigan game. They would have to rely on their running game more, which hasn't been all that great. Being Dantoni, he'll try to disguise his intention to run as long as he can to confuse our defense, but as long as we are aware of it, things will eventually crack. It'll be a close game, but if we win this game, we'll be in much better position bowl-wise.

I myself am more worried about Iowa and Wisconsin game. I suspect our success against OSU owes a little bit to their sub-par running game. Our D-line has improved but is still a bit raw, and I worry that Iowa and Wisconsin's run-first strategy may be hitting us at the right spot. Thankfully Holt has more weeks to prepare for that game and hopefully he would have come up with a solution. While we still have good chance against those two, I think we might still drop a game, if not both.
