Inside, I feel a bit bad that I have lost a lot of interest in this team, this sport. Happy that we got a win, but 25 turnovers is hard to swallow. I think it's better that I didn't watch.

Yeah, looking at the box score is depressing. Guard play overall unimpressive. Poole and Amiyah combined for 8 minutes, 2 shots, no assists, no points, and 2 TOs. Lombard and Collier were okay in scoring, but I don't think Collier can or will replicate those numbers in the Big Ten.
Lana only played 11 minutes and only got one shot. Bass shot 20% from the field, but got her double double and led the team in assists with Jones.
Just an ugly win over a bad opponent that gives me no hope that they are anywhere close to ready for Big Ten play.

Yeah, I agree it’s not had the same “grab” for me this year for some reason. Probably a combo of poor to mediocre play, lots of new faces, returnees either injured or not “firing” (eg, Swanson), and touted players (Jones, Poole, A. Reynolds) struggling or not playing due to injury.
Will say that Jones seems to be coming around, and the 2 freshman bigs are okay so far.
Got to hope/assume this is a rebuilding year and that we’ll see significant improvement next year. I guess Lombard is a bright spot.

I absolutely hate when Coaches say the other team - who is a mid major underdog - played like it "was their super bowl" - when their team struggles to beat them by committing 25 turnovers against a MAC team. Anddddd that is precisely what KG said last night after the game to somehow excuse our continued bad play. Turnovers will absolutely kill us against most if not all big ten teams and having a coach continue to make excuses for this play will not fix that.
I'd not be at all surprised to see us with 30 to even 40 TOs against MSU's press all game long.
As Jeffboiler mentioned above, this is definitely a rebuilding year and I think most assumed it was? I sure did. That said, last night was the worst we played. 25 turnovers and alot of them were "middle school level turnovers" to put it kindly.
Nice to see Poole out there. She may be the only player that can dribble the ball with her left hand more than 2 or 3 bounces without losing control.
Long Season to go, but it doesn't look good for this team.. after Saturday's Indiana St game, we may not see a W until February. Hope I'm wrong.

It was their Super Bowl? Geez, now I feel better that we are that big of an attraction, Coach Geralds. I get it was probably holiday break at their school , but a whole 639 fans showed up for this game. Their fans sure weren't told it was their Super Bowl. Duh, stupid statement.

I appreciate, we all want to be loyal and show support to our school, but rebuilding from last year just seems a bit odd to me. We were not very good last year either. The couple plus' are good to see, but are we just being wishful and nice in a Christmas spirit way?
Let’s be honest about things, if Purdue isn’t going to play the money game in sports except for possibly Men’s basketball we’re going to see Purdue have years like this in most sports. Volleyball is an example although they probably will still be pretty good because most schools don’t care enough about it, at least Purdue draws with fans that care.
Yeah i just think we lost alot from last year(5 starters) and replaced them with same level or worse talent. Outside of the 4 senior transfers we're still very young, its all frosh and sophomores. So it looked like another rebuilding year.
I still thought we'd be better than last season, maybe not record wise with our tough schedule, but overall just more competitive. Long season to go, so we'll see. Doesn't look promising.
And we lose at least 5 players off this team, 3 starters. So next year will also be a rebuilding year and CKG will go get another bunch of mediocre transfers for one year... lather, rinse, repeat until she is finally fired. There is no player development year over year, and until that changes we will stay as one of the worst teams in the Big Ten. Kentucky is in a rebuilding season. 12-20 last year, new coach, 11 new players, only one returning starter. But they went out and hired an experienced D1 coach that Purdue would never consider. Because he is male and not a Purdue legacy.

I didn’t watch, but I think they had 10 turnovers in the first quarter. It’s hard to believe how lackadaisical they are, and it seems the coaching staff is content with it, because you certainly haven’t seen it addressed successfully over the years.
Yeah, Gearlds might want to have to reset herself - Because this program is no one’s Super Bowl right now. In the early 2000s, maybe. That was an immature comment that deserves exposure.
And to rebuild you first have to have built something in the first place.
Shea Ralph at Vandy, took over a massive trainwreck where most of the team left because of Stephanie White's toxic coaching, this is her 4th year, currently in the others receiving votes for top 25
Moseley at UWisc, took a dead program 4 years ago and has slowly but steadily built them up to almost respectable.
Brooks at UK, first year after they went 12-20. 11 new players, only a couple of carry overs from last season and ranked #16 nationally.
Green at UIll third year. 9-2 record this season and in the others receiving votes
Minnesota Plitzuweit in her second year taking over a poorly run program from Lindsey Whalen. Won 20 games last year and is 11-1 this season, but only 1 game against a quality opponent and Nebraska blew them out.
Fralick in her second year at Michigan State. 31-9 overall record, 10-0 this season with wins over Cal, Vandy and Iowa. Ranked 15th nationally.
Why would you believe that? In an easy game with lots of opportunities to play the youngsters and develop them; the 4 senior transfers got 120 minutes, the 7 underclassmen split up 80 minutes with only Jones and Puryear getting 20 or more minutes of the underclassmen. All the portal players, including Petree got at least 18 minutes and the other three got 33, 34, 35.
Obviously next year after those seniors graduate it will be ANOTHER rebuilding year, with another big batch of portal players and the cycle will just continue since not one player so far in the Gearlds era has improved noticeably year over year. In fact you can point to several players that actually got worse the longer they played for CKG.
What exactly has KG "built"? What are her HS recruits doing this season? We'd be 3-8 right now without our SR transfers. Kids developed at other programs coming here and helping us beat mid majors- while losing by 40 to P4 schools.
Against Miami - KG's "kids" - the 7 kids recruited out of HS. COMBINED for a whopping 21 pts and 11 rebounds. And this is against a 5-4 MAC school!!!

I agree with both of you now. If we end up 8-22 or 9-21, what happens then with this Purdue sport, this team? I don't see a newly developed end-of-the-year tournament called "The State Farm Like A Good Neighbor Charity Tournament" where you can only get in with less than 10 wins. Will something happen then or will there be a statement saying "positive progress was made"? I don't see us "out of the blue" start clicking in the Big Ten season. It could be football ugly. Like I said earlier, "I have lost interest in watching them as I don't enjoy it and don't need that rise in my blood pressure now."
This team seems to lean heavily on senior transfers (Lombard/Bass/Collier) for a rebuild.
Don't know if others are injured or Gearlds just doesn't trust the younger players.
I have to agree the season hasn't inspired a lot of confidence so far.
Call it a down year than if you'd like.
Yeah outside of the Maryland game, the players and coaching staff haven't instilled much/any confidence to make us believe this is going to be turned around.
I'd like to see some of the younger players get more minutes too.
Amiyah Reynolds had 2 turnovers in 2 mins the other night, was pulled and never saw the floor again. Kind of harsh imo to not let her play the rest of the game.
I don't necessarily believe it, I'm just hoping it is haha.
Poole, Puryear, McCarthy, and Jones seem to be the only underclassmen I'm confident in saying will play a decent amount going forward as of now.
Obviously Amiyah, McKenna, and Sophie should see more time(to grow) but they haven't really impressed enough to warrant more minutes. I want them to play, just stating what I think is going to happen as of now. Long season to go.
Swanson showed she was a player last year, when playing with other competent guards. But when left on an island and forced to create shots for herself because the offense is running so poorly its not creating outside shots for any of the shooters, you have negated most of her best options for contributing. I don't know why you put Poole ahead of Amiyah, she only has 6 minutes in, but she has not shown anything in a Purdue uniform to date. Jones is okay against mid major talent or teams that let her get to the rim. Once that path closes, she is not very good at all.
I know I'm projecting a bit since she's barely played, but I put her ahead because I think she's our best ball handler and passer. Amiyah should still play and even start until Poole proves it on the court. She is just a frosh that missed essentially an entire year of basketball. They both have alot of long term potential imo.
So did Smith, so did/does Jones. But until we see evidence that anyone on the current staff can develop any of that potential, they are just athletic bodies sitting in the bench.
I never thought that about Smith, her offer sheet wasn't very impressive. Not sure where all her hype ever came from.
To each their own, you think the staff won't develop these players, I want to wait and see them play their freshman and sophomore years. No point in debating.
Smith was ranked 42nd in her class, the highest of any player on the roster currently I believe. She is a combo guard with good size and good to great athleticism. Why wouldn't she be expected to be good in college? I also believe she was Ms Basketball her senior year. And she is not as good this year as she was as a wet behind the ears freshman. Swanson was better last year. Ellis was better as a junior than senior, same with Terry. Madison was her best as a sophomore. Just tell me who you believe best exemplifies this staff's ability to develop players in the last 3 full seasons. Until I see ANY player get better under Gearlds tutelage, I will no longer count on it happening.
Yeah I just saw it on the official purdue site, never knew she was rated that high. It is prospect nation, not sure how much more accurate or inaccurate they are compared to ESPN. Not even rated in top 100 on ESPN and her best offer besides Purdue was Butler. That should of been a huge red flag, even if she committed during her junior year(which she did i believe.) I prefer offers over ratings, but to each their own.
I just want to thank everyone in this thread for keeping it civil. There have been a lot of good points brought up, definitely different opinions on where we are as a team and the direction we might be going as a program, but its remained civil and respectful. That is such a huge improvement from when I first came back to this site a few years ago. Thank you to everyone on here for being part of cleaning up the discussions here and eliminating the juvenile name calling that dominated any disagreements over many years before this change, even in a very trying season for us as Purdue fans.
