Purdue Football Helmets

That is a hell of a lot better than thought it could be. They took hints of the old and made them into the modern shapes. You have convinced me. That would be a great alternate helmet.
wish we would use the uni's w/ the chevrons on them , LSU and Ole Miss still use theirs.

They should spice the uniforms up to help recruiting...The top high school programs have sponsored uniforms with multiple Looks...Kids these days love the flashy new uniforms..We should do anything that can maybe help us get a foot in the door

Well, judging from the "multiple looks" of our "flashy new uniforms" the past two seasons, I'd say that we were trying to "get a foot in the door" alright... the door of a f*ck!ng funeral home.

There are only a handful colleges that have truly iconic football helmets, meaning both representative of the school's tradition and highly distinctive as the school's brand. Probably the only schools that are in that category are:

1. Michigan
2. Notre Dame
3. Penn State (for its simplicity)
4, Clemson
5. Miami
6. Michigan State
7. Texas

I propose a highly traditional and unique design for Purdue's football helmets. It is nothing more than reproducing the image of our old leather helmets of the 1920-30 era onto the hard polymer helmets that we use today. That design can be readily seen in several of the posters shown in the link below.

There is a black cross on top of an old gold cross at a 45 degree angle. Air holes are prominent between these stripes. There is a wide band across the forehead and large egg-shaped pads over the ears. We could even reproduce the sutures on the edges of the leather bands.

And they would be leather bands. We'd fabricate paper-thin leather and glue it onto the the polymer shell so that it had the look and feel of helmets of that era.

I'm not feeling it.

You have that right, AT! It's well past time for it, and we need to be vocal about NOW!! It's a bolder, richer color compared to Vegas gold (beige), which conversely looks pale, bland and washed out, especially on electronic and print media. Furthermore, it's NOT our school color!

Did you see the Saints throwback uniforms that they wore yesterday? Manufactured by Nike no less:

Reminds me so much of great times in Ross-Ade:

UGH!! I think it looks terrible compared to our OLD GOLD!

Thank you! I knew there was a reason why I like them so much (I own one) but couldn't quite put my finger on it.

I like the white helmets with number on the side and train on the other if you swap the train for a motion p might look sharp. I dont like the black helmets, or the grey uniforms.

Men In Flat Black........catchy, huh. I believe all one color is hideous .......other than all white.

I'm with you, T-Hawk! I've said this before and I'll say it again: one color uniforms just scream "HIGH SCHOOL!!" to me! I was watching the Raiders at Chiefs on TV (after the hockey game, of course) and I said to myself "I KNOW it's the NFL, but it still looks like 'high school'."

Speaking of Men In Black, did you know that Tommy Lee Jones played college football at Harvard?
If you're a true college football die-hard (pretty sure that you are), you absolutely must see the 2008 documentary "Harvard beats Yale 29-29" if you haven't seen it already! It was the rivalry game played for quite high stakes that Fall of 1968 and Jones was a fullback on that 1968 Harvard team. Here's the trailer:

Again, the whole show is 'must see' if you're a college football fan!
