Wondering how many of you will make the Labor Day journey to the Marshall University football game on Sunday, September 6? Hopefully the weather will be nice (your section will be looking directly into the sun so bring your sunscreen and sun glasses). One of the local favorites is hosting your tailgate - Buddy's Bar-B-Que on third avenue adjacent to campus. Good eats! Other places to eat include Fat Pattis (directly across the street from the stadium - great burgers and beer); Herd Hall of Fame Cafe (downtown); Rooster's (at Pullman Square), and Jim's Steak and Spaghetti House (on Fifth Avenue - a local favorite). In any event those of you who make the trip will find the majority of Marshall fans friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Hope to see a large contingent of Purdue fans at the game. It is on a Sunday afternoon - come on down!

Thanks for the invitation. I'm planning on being there. What is the potential for getting a single ticket around the stadium before the game? The Purdue ticket office only has them for season ticket holders and John Purdue Club members.

Try the Marshall ticket office - 800-642-3463 OR go to Herdzone.com and order online. It is the opening game and big crowd expected and it is a Big10 team. To answer your question there are usually people selling tickets and it is state law here that if they are selling outside the stadium it must be no more than face value. Hope all of this helps and I hope you can come and have a great time.

Thanks again! Herdzone shows a LOT of available seats for $40...some appear to be very good locations. Any recommendations? It seems the visitors get stuck in section 103 around the endzone? If I pick a single seat closer to mid-field (maybe section 107, staying on the north-east side where the Purdue visitors section is), will I be harrassed by the "Herd", or can I expect a fun, civil back-and-forth with those surrounding me? Also, given your stadium design would you recommend lower, mid or upper level seating for best game viewing?

Bluegrass all the seats have great sight lines as the field is lower than the first row of seats. You will be welcome and find our fans friendly - passionate, but friendly. Are you coming on game day (Sunday) or before?

Coming game day only. West Lafayette is just a bit too far for me to make same-day game trips, especially when our teams of late have been relegated to only noon game times. So I was excited to see this one pop up on the schedule just a two hour drive from home. I've been looking forward to it since then.

bbn: Wheres your best suggestion for steak/seafood? Staying at Pullman planning on Buddys on Fri, need a sat afternoon bar and Sat nite dinner suggestion----THANKS in advance

Boilerboy if you are staying at Pullman across the street is Pullman Plazs - Max and Erma's, Rooster's, etc. Just down the street is Herd Hall of Fame Cafe. I would suggest Jim's Steak and Spaghetti House (two blocks from you on Fifth Avenue - local favorite for over 80 years - try the white fish). Saturday - IF you can get in - Fat Pattis - next to stadium - best burgers/beer in town. Will be packed with good natured Herd fans. Travel safe. Should be a good game.

To all Purdue fans coming to the game on Sunday, September 6, parking at/near Edwards Stadium is an absolute pain in the a$$. Come early if you are driving to find parking. Just saying ad it is a nightmare even for the Marshall fans.

Mid or upper level, IMO. Check out this 3D seating chart for a good idea on the sight lines. My tickets are Row 44 in 107. I would suggest sunglasses if its a sunny day. That west side of the stadium gets direct sun all day.

The majority of Marshall attendance is a walk-up crowd meaning long will call and stadium ticket office lines. My advice is buy in advance and either have them mail the tickets, print them at home or have them sent to your mobile device. If you choose will call you'll be waiting in long lines.

Great link! Thanks! One more question...do they serve beer at your stadium? I was pleasantly surprised to get Yuenglings at our Cincy opener a couple of years ago (and that was about the ONLY good thing about that game:confused:).

No, though we thought they may do it starting this season because there was a push for it.

If you end up parking near the stadium or find some fans on the West Lot to tailgate with, you can leave the stadium at halftime to grab a bite to eat and drink a beer and then come back in. There are a few bars across the street from the stadium too. You'll notice with about 1-2 minutes left in the first half people will start pouring out to hit their tailgates. Usually, everyone is back in their seats by mid 3rd quarter.

Here is a visitor's guide thread we usually post each season. If you have any other questions just post them there.

Also, one of our posters who handles the pre-game radio shows, replied to a thread today mentioning that Purdue will be having a tailgate at Buddy's All American BBQ starting at noon on Sunday. It's across campus from the stadium but still an easy walk. I'm pretty sure Kansas State held their pre-game tailgate at Buddy's when they came to town in 2005.

I was in Huntington last spring for a baseball tourney. Fat Patti's is indeed very good. FYI regarding Jim's...great food, but no liquor license. Lots of cool pics of celebs who have visited.

I'm going with another Purdue grad and a Marshall grad. We're staying Sunday night and playing golf at Silo on Monday morning.

We thought about hitting a casino or dog track Sunday night but it looks like the closest one is about 45 minutes away, correct?

Important to note that there are no "walk-ins" for this tailgate. You must reserve by Sept 2. Details are on this link: http://purdue.imodules.com/s/1461/2...id=2768&gid=1001&cid=6508&ecid=6508&post_id=0

I'm glad they're running a shuttle because it is a bit of a hike across campus to the stadium from Buddy's.

I would recommend Sugarwood over silos for golfing, they are both beside each other. Sugar is more of a challenge and much much much nicer in my opinion. And the casino is about a 30 minute drive.

Got friends coming from Purdue who have never been to Marshall. They are looking forward to it. Going to tour them around Saturday. Hope many of the Boiler faithful can make the trip. Good Luck next Sunday!

Bluegrass one of my favorite watering holes in Lexington is Malone's near Hamburg Mall. Have you been there?
I stay away from the Hamburg area as much as possible just because of the traffic from my side of town, but do take in the Malones in Tates Creek and Palomar. Really all the BHG (Bluegrass Hospitality Group) eateries/bars are great places. Can't go wrong with any of them if you're in Lexington.

Just bumpin' the Alumni Tailgate flyer link since deadline to sign up is Wednesday, Sept 2. Includes BBQ, free parking and shuttle to/from game. Parking with shuttle service might be a good idea given Mike Gwinn's gameday advice, and of course you'll get fed and can ramp up to gameday fervor with a bunch of others Boiler-ing Up too.

Bluegrass I have only been to the Hamburg location but I'm sure the other locations are just as good. I like visiting Lexington - especially the horse races.

Keeneland is gearing up for its first-ever Breeders Cup Races on Oct 30-31 after the Fall Meet ends. I just took a "Breeders Cup" tour out there today and you'd hardly recognize the place with all the temporary buildings and stands. Keeneland is always open to the public. A beautiful park-like setting that's a must-visit if in the Lexington area even when the Spring or Fall meets aren't running. Go out early to see the thoroughbreds training and then have a great breakfast at the track kitchen. Might be eating with a jockey on one side and the ex-Gov (also big horse owner) on your other.

For those of you not attending the Purdue tailgate at Buddy's, the university parking lots will open at 9 AM ET on Sunday morning. Some of the businesses surrounding the stadium that offer game day parking may be open before that. Traffic around the stadium will become congested around 12:45 PM. Marshall's team buses arrive at the entrance to the West Lot for the the Thunder Walk that starts at 12:55 PM. They close the streets to allow the buses to get to the stadium and things back up quick. Might want to get there before all that mess. If you're looking for a quick breakfast on Sunday morning I would suggest finding the closest Tudor's Biscuit World near where you're staying and try out the Mary B. Don't say anything, just try it.

Some time during the first half a high-resolution, gigapixel panoramic will be taken from mid-field.

If you want to walk around the campus and stadium areas prior to the game check out the Marshall Memorial Fountain on the plaza of the student center on campus. There is another plane crash memorial on the West facade of the stadium. Also, check out the Chad Pennington Hall of Fame inside the atrium of the Chris Cline Indoor Practice Facility and take your picture in front of the 3 huge bison beside the entrance.

If you're getting in town on Friday and looking for something to do there is a place called Heritage Station downtown. Its a block or two from the two downtown hotels. There will be an outdoor showing of the movie We Are Marshall starting around 8 PM. It's called Cinema Under the Stars. Might be something different to do. There are a number of shops and restaurants at Heritage Station so they may offer food and drink as well. Sip Wine Bar and Summit Beer Station are located at Heritage Station.

Also remember to pick up your tailgate drink of choice prior to game day. In WV, you cannot purchase alcohol before 1 PM on Sunday. Would make for a short tailgate, otherwise.
