MSU's pressure defense is killing Purdue so far. 25-15 with 1:40 to go in the first quarter. We are hitting 58% from the field but have 7 turnovers. Now make it 30-18 with Purdue hitting 62% but 10 turnovers and only 4 assists at the end of the first quarter.

48-21 at the half. Purdue with 18 TOs, just watching the play by play it seems like MSU has already called off the dogs even before halftime.

63-39 MSU at the end of the third quarter. Starters for Purdue for the second half:

McCarthy, Puryear, Amiyah, Lombard and Petree. Not sure what CKG is trying to establish, but it isn't working against any teams that are not tomato cans.

77-59 MSU final. Thankful MSU called off the press and just coasted to the win in the last 2 and a half quarters. Purdue scored a grand total of 3 points in the second quarter.

THREE POINTS for a quarter.

Puryear and McCarthy together did seem viable in the 3rd quarter, but MSU really was playing soft and just playing out the time secure they won the game in the first quarter and a half.

But we were 100% from the line (Jones was 4 of 4) though only one player shot free throws. I wanted to say something positive.

Same as last year, this MSU team just looks so much more athletic and faster than us.

Negatives -

Swanson - I think it's time for CKG to give her the red light on shots. So many ill-advised shots, even for some that go in. Never seen a so called shooter air ball so many shots. 3 turnovers today and she only played 1 minute in the 2nd half.

Bass - getting bullied by Big Ten forwards.

Halftime dog show - thought the Iowa dog performance show was more organized and had superior talent. One of the Iowa dogs had insane ups. One of the MSU dogs did a corkscrew while catching a Frisbee, but besides that, very underwhelming. In a way, the Iowa dog and Coach are the big ten, and Purdue was the msu dogs.

Positives -

2nd half performance - we were down 27 at half. Won the 2nd half by 7 points. It's easy to let off the gas as a competitor when you're up so big, which msu did, but still credit to Purdue for not laying down.

Reynolds - hit a few jumpers, hopefully that makes her more confident to be aggressive with her scoring. Still 4 TO's but everyone turned it over today.

Puryear - said it before, love her aggressiveness. She is quicker with her decisions in the post as well compared to McCarthy(which causes turnovers and tie ups).

We don't have to play MSU again.

Final thoughts -

Another dismal performance overall.

The big ten isn't going to get weaker, so either we start improving or we'll just chill in cellar of the big ten. I don't mean for just this season either.

Let's see. positives:
We won the second half 36-29 with MSU just in cruise control
We only had 7 TOs in the second half, AFTER MSU called off their press
No big injuries
McCarthy keeps impressing. tied for team lead in assists, points and second best on the team in shooting percentage.
Puryear was solid once again, and I really want to see her start in front of Bass who just gives us nothing against decent posts/pfs

Swanson is just lost in this poorly executed offense. She needs much more structure than our coaches provide. If she transfers to UILL she will be a double digit scorer off the bench and will terrorize us.

Lombard is a decent player, the rest of the portal players need to be relegated to practice squad players.

I love the fight in Puryear and McCarthy. they are playing well over their recruit rankings and are battling out there. Lana is slow and needs to work on going quick rather than thinking once she catches the ball, just react and go.

I am less impressed by Amiyah going 3-3 than you might be, she played 26 minutes and only got 1 freaking assist to 4 turnovers. She is not showing any talent as a point guard, and not much as a shooting guard. She is just taking up space, same as Collier and Bass most of the time out there.

I admit: I did not think it would be this bad. Purdue just hasn't been competitive against good teams, except 1 game against Maryland

Still relying heavily on senior transfers who 1) don't seem to be very effective against quality opponents--save maybe Lombard, and 2) aren't long-term solutions, anyway.

I don't blame Lombard/Bass/Collier. They are the players they are. It's not their fault they're the best options nearly half way through the season.

One honest question: is this roster a Katie Gearlds problem, an NIL problem, or some combination of the two?

Puryear and McCarthy have nice futures if they stick around here, these days who in the hell knows. Going forward, those two along with Swanson, Reynolds, and Jones need to get most of the minutes, play the Frosh and Soph’s, nothing is gained by playing Collier more than 5-10 minutes, Lombard and Bass should be bench players, they won’t be here next season, play youth.

Frustrating to watch. Michigan State just played harder than Purdue did.

I don't know what to say about the turnovers. Some are just unbelievable. They make passes that have zero chance of being completed.

Michigan State had 15 more FG attempts and 21 more free throw attempts than Purdue. Can't beat anyone when they get that many more shots than you.

I think Sophie Swanson has totally lost interest.

Next two games are at Mackey. If things don't improve drastically I would be ok the youth movement mentioned above. Except for Lombard's minutes being reduced. I think she needs to be on the court as much as possible.

Dont take this wrong but what youth movement? McCarthy and puryear are already getting real minutes. They just cant stay on the floor due to foul trouble or turnovers - McCarthy had a real head scratcher in the first half.

Poole is a bit of an unknown because of her injury. Seems very talented but I dont think shes turning an 20 point loss into a win if she plays 25 minutes.

The other young players have either not played well or not shown growth. The second years and Reynolds have not been up to scratch when they have gotten minutes. This is a poorly constructed roster playing a poorly constructed schedule.

At this point it's clear this year is lost. And unlike last year when we had a bunch of older players that had been here two to four years, this years seniors are all one year rentals. Playing them now isn't going to get wins except against Northwestern, Rutgers, and maybe PSU and UWisc. So start playing the youngsters so maybe they'll get better from experience. Does getting beat by 30 really hurt the program any worse than being beat by 20? Otherwise we will be doing this all over again with a new crop of portal players next year to the same results

Against #1 UCLA and #24 UMich? And you expect to see improvement? In what areas? They are playing how they've played all season and all last season. This is who Purdue is under CKG. There will be no improvement until we get a qualified D1 coach in here
