What say ye about this upcoming opponent?

Their back Corbin either has really good burst or Rutgers has division 3 DBs.

One of their DTs is an impact player and their WDE Bobby roundtree is a really nice pass rusher. Their D doesn’t look slow.

On offense they run the read option with an athletic QB. Not good for us. However, their OC was Arizona’s OC in the bowl game, so holt may have a nice preparation ready.

they looked pretty good vs psu until the 2nd half, so I say we can't let them get off to a quick start and gain some confidence and not to be looking ahead to osu.

We have to be safe with the ball on O and blough needs to not get blindsided on deep drops

I'm somewhat surprised the line is that big. I expected it to be in the 6-7 range. Illinois has shown some life this season. Maybe it's the beard.

Illinois has no pass rush to speak of, so that's where I think you guys will kill it. Plus we can't cover the passes in the flat or any kind of drag routes. Just a question of if we can score enough to stay in the game.

I would have expected a line closer to 3 or 4 in Champaign.

Illinois' run game looks like the real deal. Corbin, Epstein, and Bush have already combined for 1200 yards and are collectively averaging 6 yards per carry. But, Purdue's passing game has been much more potent, especially over the past three weeks. And, Purdue's defense has shown more improvement.

I don't expect a blow out, but I do expect Purdue to win.

I thought Bobby roundtree was supposed to be good according to commentators?

Oh well. We cover the zone read like my mom and my sister are out there, so it should be a shoot out.

Rush four...spy with Bailey, make the QB beat you by throwing accurately.

Their Offense is built on quick passes so d line have to get their hands up and bat passes.

Every read option HIT the QB

Actually, it looks like bush holds the ball pretty long. They definitely aren’t accurate on quick hitters to receivers on the move ... to me anyway

Thinking more what the OC wants over what the QB is doing.

If OC Rod Smith is running what they did at UM it should be three steps and fire 80% of the time

lowly Illini fan here! Our running game is legit and our running backs at least show a lot of burst when hitting the hole .
Thats definitely one bright spot for us at least .

AJ Bush (our QB) is pretty elusive & fast in the open field but his passing isn't that good . I know injuries are part of the game but we could REALLY use Mikey Dudek in the passing game . He was great for us .

Hopefully it'll be a good/competitive game but I am pretty skeptical cause of your superior coaching edge . You guys look legit on Offense and I think Brohm has you guys headed in the right direction after a shaky straight this season .

I don't like this line.. Illinois coming off a road win, feeling confident. Homecoming. And now their coaches can use this point spread to play the disrespect card with their players. I see them coming out fired up. Conversely, the motivators our coaches had in recent weeks (BC- ranked opponent, NU- storied program, packed house) are not in play. Hope we do not come out flat. Hope nobody is holding anything back for OSU. It will be very important to get off to a good start and grab the momentum.

yes, similar to what I posted above, somewhat of a trap game.

This game scares me as well. We are the better team, but only if we play our best.

The fact is that Illinois has a winning record right now and Purdue does not. When you have a losing record, there should be no such thing as a "trap" game and I seriously doubt that they are looking ahead to OSU.

I think that Illinois is a little better than most people give them credit for. Their only losses this season were to ranked opponents and they put up 31 points or more in all of their wins. We also saw Purdue's vulnerability to a running QB vs. Nebraska.

That said, I think that Purdue will put a spy on the QB to negate that and that, given the QBs limited downfield passing abilities, the DBs will be able to cover receivers tighter without fear of a big deep threat, which also puts them in a better position for run support. On offense, I think that Knox and Moore will have a field day on screens and passes out of the backfield, and that the tight ends can have a big day as well.

Prediction: Purdue 41; Illinois 31

I am past worrying about whether Purdue will win or lose . I want to see team play well and let the chips fall wherever. Worrying never helped a team win, playing balls out will. Go Boilers.

I think the thing is, Martinez like Khalil Tate could beat you with his arm if you took away the run. If you watch Illinois, they show no ability to do that.

Rivers passed for 149 against Penn State, 168 against South Florida and Bush only passed for 89 yards against Rutgers.

Ever since I’ve watched Purdue, since tiller was hired, if a team can’t establish a pass threat independent of the run, and we don’t absolutely blow, our defense plays way way better. Agreed?

With the speed of their backs, I’d like to see us go small... maybe Jacob Thienemann next to Jones and Bailey with Barnes up front. These backs and Bush aren’t gonna run over you but they will run around you. So covering space is most important.

This could actually be a game where Blackmon is an asset. He popped Martinez really good and upended him. He just gets worked worse than Kyle Petty in coverage. But Illinois isn’t a threat there. Even Blackmon at nickel consistently with major and Mackey outside would be good.

I said I could see us starting 1-3. We did. Now, if you told me we lost this game and beat MSU I wouldn’t be shocked at all

So far under CJB, Purdue has shown an ability to not only lose games they shouldn't but also win games, convincingly, they shouldn't. So that would not surprise me at all either.

That’s a great way to put it lol.

This will be interesting, Illinois is full of confidence after a road W. Purdue should win, but if Purdue lets Illinois get off to a good start, Illinois could handle business and win the game.

Big game for Purdue, this is a must win. I sure wish my Hoosiers got to play sloppy Illinois and pathetic Nebraska.

I can see why. It's much more difficult to play elite programs like Ball State and Rutgers.

In case you didn't know (I'm guessing not), most games are scheduled several years in advance. You were probably not complaining a whole lot having to play the pre-Harbaugh Michigan, the pre-Franklin Penn State. Incidentally, in 2025, Purdue has 10 of the 12 games already scheduled, including a non conference game with Notre Dame. Indiana has non conference games scheduled against Louisville and Indiana State. I would also bet money that Nebraska will be a lot stronger in 7 years than Rutgers.

No need at all for that defensive response. My wish to play rotten Illinois and Nebraska teams is a natural thing. We are like you, fighting for bowl eligibility. Playing those teams would put us in a bowl game. Instead, we find ourselves playing Penn State, MSU, OSU and Michigan.

It's just a completely different world, the Big Ten you know and the Big Ten we know, completely different.

The strength of the divisions tends to go in cycles, but right now it's easy to see that the East is better than the West. But all you can do is play who is on your schedule next.

Purdue's current SOS (according to Jeff Sagarin): 38
And Indiana's SOS reflects the fact that they have already played Ohio State.
Purdue will face both Ohio State and Michigan State this year. Indiana will not play Wisconsin.

I get that the divisions aren't even, but I think some Indiana fans are making a much bigger deal about their schedule than is warranted.

Just as long as you realize that the first sentence of your post would get any one of us banned on your site.

Except here’s the problem. We don’t control divisions. We do control ooc. A couple weeks ago I demonstrated on your board that the average ranking of our TWELVE opponents was actually higher than the average ranking of yours.

So the conversation went like this on the board where you guys congratulate yourself and break your arms walking each other off before instabanning.

IU: your division is like high school compared to ours
PU: uh actually our opponents have a higher average ranking on s and p
IU: not that much higher. The difference is negligible

That was a real conversation. I felt like I was talking to sergeant slaughter and borat for real.

And again divisions don’t matter when you get routed

He's probably the best, but still hasn't lived up to expectations. Still only a soph. The Dline was supposed to be one of the strengths of the team and everyone was panicking about the OL. Now the OL is looking great, we're averaging 260 ypg on the ground and the DL can't stop anyone.

I don't disagree with you. Thank you for explaining your point. I apologize for being defensive and misinterpreting your intentions. Maybe I need to stay out of the forums when I'm stressed out. That said, we also play OSU and MSU this year, as well as Wisconsin and Iowa. Regardless, in the conference you can only play the hand that you're dealt; good or bad.

This. Purdue's non-conference schedule makes it look like IU was playing in a high school conference. The OP shouldn't come here whining about not playing Nebraska and Illinois, when they played FL International, Ball St, and even Virginia in non conf play. Wow.

Guys, Indiana can not load up on their out of conference portion because of the fact we've got Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan and Michigan State EVERY YEAR.

I would LOVE to play a more interesting OOC schedule but I must be realistic. We are fighting for bowl eligibility just like you are on a yearly basis. I'd love to play Notre Dame, it's not in the cards when you play the above mentioned schools every year.

But you’re dodging. Even with your division ... our average opponent is rated higher than yours! Not our average out of conference opponent. Our average OPPONENT.

By the way genius, we played Michigan last year. We were leading 13-10 in the second half. If you end up leading Michigan or Penn State late in the second half that’s one thing. If you get blown out, you can’t really argue “well.. ya know, if we were playing Wisconsin instead of Michigan we would have won.”

Hey Einstein, we actually took Michigan into OT last year...just thought you might want to know that since you brought them up!!! We've actually taken them into OT two out of three years recently...so yeah, we know all about playing the big boys tough!!

Woo! Played two games and lost against a mid level B1G team now means they can hang with the big boys. It's actually a reasonable thing to say on your board, a silly one to say over here.

IU fans can play "Let's Pretend IU Doesn't Suck" at their Shit Hole Trailer Park site all day & night, but it's not flying over here. Furthermore, TooDumb75 doesn't know anything about football, let alone B1G football, and he proves it every time he posts.
