Arizona State has very little depth in the frontcourt (pretty much the opposite of a team like Louisville). Having a guard and wing-oriented offense with a thin frontcourt (Obinna Oleka, Ramon Vila, and Sam Cunliffe are their three significant frontcourt contributors), what are the keys for Purdue in this game, in terms of the way they attack ASU's defense and defend their guard/wing heavy lineup?

Have not seen ASU play but typically teams that are guard oriented give us fits with dribble penetration. Defending the pick and roll is another area that has given us issues. I read ASU hit 20 three pointers the other day so apparently they can shoot. I don't know how they manufacture those but we have to limit good opportunities for them.

Then there is rebounding and turnovers. The former brings a potential strength and the latter a potential weakness.

Should be good exposure for us if we come to play.

Looks like they have made over 80 threes in 8 games. Obviously we need to guard the three point line and get favorable matchups.

I watched them play Kentucky, and the game was over 6 minutes in. Little defense, quick shots, etc..saw no one on their team that we should be worried about. Look for Caleb to have a monster game being in Madison Square Garden on ESPN.
Be curious if Carsen starts, and our hot shooting continues (Carsen, Cline, Mathias)

I only worry about Purdue and if a Purdue team shows up......in other words Georgia State game.

I will be surprised if Carsen Edwards doesn't start, absent extenuating health circumstances.

Carsen is probably our 2nd best scorer right now behind Biggie, and our fastest player on the team. Start him, nothing wrong bringing VE off the bench at the first timeout

I don't think we can start Carsen anymore with Spike out. We can't afford to have both he and PJ (both our PGs) on the floor at the same time to start.

My humble opinion.

There are other players capable of handling the ball when initiating the motion (VE, Mathias, Cline) and Smotherman has enough quickness and a decent enough handle to bring the ball up the court quickly, if needed. The lineup that started last game is probably the team's best offensive lineup and VE, Smotherman, and Cline can be subbed in if the Haas/Swanigan lineup doesn't have the foot speed to defend well enough in man-to-man (which happens from time to time, especially against Top 25 level opponents, and some sleepers as well).

Fair point, but Basil has done it in isolated instances with a true PG on the court.

PJ has been able to respond to the pressing with good decision making, so opponents have backed off. If you take him out of the picture, I guarantee that they will press our "point-forward."

Sadly, I am very pessimistic about this game. We have a history of screwing the pooch in MSG.

oh and after our game bryson scott plays ND for those interested. maybe he can fire up the motors again.

Purdue should run ASU. ASU has dynamic guards but they don't play a smart game. If Purdue can own the boards and keep the turnovers down they should win by double digits.

Biggest single key for me so far this year.....finally got one into single digits last game against Morehead State despite a somewhat sloppy start. Keep it rolling, Boilers.

Key to the game is to get the ball to the bigs and get ASU in foul trouble....

That's what they are going to try to do to us......

Rebound, hit our free throws and hit opportunistic 3 pointers when open and a good shot, but mostly be dunking or laying up the ball or being fouled.

I have Purdue winning by 8......we make 8 three pointers but most of our points come in the paint and from free throw line.

Purdue 84 ASU 76
