PU #17 This Week

About what most would expect; also, Villanova up to #2, and Michigan State slid to #24. There will be a lot of fluidity in the rankings as usual. Boilers just need to get better/consistent efforts.....including knocking down some shots. So far (though it's early), they seem to be getting better looks.....that's a start.

Take care of business and the rest will take care of itself.

That said, I'm okay with 17... we deserve it after the GS game.
I don't really buy the " we deserve it after the GS game" just because that logic never seems to apply to any other teams. We also had 2 voters not rank us, come on man. And Chris Goff of the FW JG, and big IU fan, voted IU 3rd and PU 20th. Again, come on man....

Completely see your point in that regard. Having us not ranked is a joke.

I think it happened a couple of times early in the season last year too....with one voter in particular.....can't recall the name or "publication." There are always some outliers it seems. That would be a good reason for discarding the highest and the lowest for determining the final ranking.

Ehh, Georgia State is likely the favorite in the Sun Belt this season. Ron Hunter is a damn good coach and with another solid season and making the NCAA's, he could find himself at a bigger job after jumping from IUPUI (which he also led to the NCAA's). Although not a top 25 team, GSU will likely win 20+ games this season and be a lower seeded team with the ability to beat someone in the tourney. There is a reason Hollowell went to IU and was recruited by and offered by Purdue, Xavier, Illinois, OSU, and CInncy (also the 41st player in his class). He'll cause a ton of matchup problems in the conference for 3's and 4's.

Chris Goff is a complete joke. He didn't rank them at the beginning of the year last year. His bias was killing me. I let the JG have it last year when he was writing Purdue articles. After that they gave the duties back to Jeff Washburn.

FW JG has always been a joke when it comes to PU coverage. They have ND football and IU basketball covered really well!! They are the official publication of the reversible jacket crowd.

Hallowell was not offered by Purdue.

Interesting subtle differences in the two polls for conference teams:

AP

Purdue - 17
(Indiana 3, Wisconsin 16, Michigan State 24, Michigan 25....Maryland/Ohio State getting votes)

USA Today Coaches

Purdue - 19
(Indiana 5, Wisconsin 14, Michigan State 20, Maryland 23 Michigan 24)

I don't know how the prognosticators can predict where a team like GSU would finish up with so many incoming transfers including Hollowell, but I've seen predictions of GSU as low as 5th and as high as 2nd. I haven't seen any that have them as the favorite. Where have you seen that they are the favorite? Lots of 3, 4, or 5 predictions in the Sun from what I've read.

Even if they are the top team in the Sun, with the size advantage Purdue has, I expected a bigger winning margin and not to struggle before all their bigs fouled out. I do think a let down from the Nova game was a factor. But, I don't think GSU is as good as we made them look for 32 minutes of basketball.

Yes...until they figure out he can't go left. Blows my mind!
