Any thoughts on rolling this mess back;

-teams can only take 2 portal guys or as many as left if over 2

-can’t go portal until after sophomore unless coach leaves

-one time transfer without sitting out , second time you sit out a year, no three portals

-how about no one and dones, two year min., nba cooperation needed

Not a lawyer. But my gut tells me very little of this would stand up to legal scrutiny in the era of NIL.

That being said, I would love if we get a 3-and-D athletic wing and a defensive stopper at the 4 or 5 before any of these rules go into place.

Making them employees with a CBA, binding contracts, etc is the only way to achieve any of this, most likely.

I can see the future where athletes of non revenue sports will sue to earn as much NIL money as revenue sports athletes earn. Imagine a female pole vaulter who becomes an NCAA champion and Olympic gold medalist. Or UCLA’s pommel horse guy. Wouldn’t they be more entitled to more NIL money than the QB of a 4-7 football team? Or the starting Pg of a third place BIG10 basketball team?

1. They have already sued.

2. No. Results does not always equal revenue generation.

That brings up a bigger question. What is the definition of NIL. ? By definition it is about name in likeness. There is nothing about NIL that says it should be given to revenue producing athletes!

The case in point is the pommel horse guy has brought more recognition to UCLA than any of their basketball or football players! Shouldn’t he be compensated more?

Purdue’s women’s volleyball team. Brought more positive attention to Purdue’s sports than their football team.

Another outside the box idea/concept! By definition NIL is about name and likeness. There is nothing in that name that dictates NIL must go to an athlete! How about giving NIL to the Rube Goldberg winner? Or to a student who has become famous because of some academic achievement?

When I was a student, the band Journey had a national contest for who could make the best improvement to their college. The reward was a free Journey concert for that school. A person at Purdue won that contest by having frats, sororities and organizations create curb cutters for our sidewalks to improve our disability access. I believe that person would be worthy of receiving NIL money.

How about if a Purdue professor won a Nobel prize?

That would make an interesting court case! That all students who bring positive acclaim to their university and have become famous are worthy of receiving NIL money!

And that the revenue from the BIG10 network would be applied to other avenues besides just athletics!

If you think adding portal restrictions are happening, they aren't.

It's about how much money they bring to the school and how important the sport is to the people with $$. If the UCLA gymnast brings in Money and eyeballs, then he'll get paid. If he doesn't, he won't. Sorry to tell you but track just isn't popular enough to command the $$ so the pole vault girl probably won't. However, if she is hot and willing, she can make a lot of $$ with Only Fans.

If your a Olympic champion. Your not hanging around for NIL money.
Especially at Purdue which isn't flush with cash.
Your going pro..And running the Diamond League 💎..
Big cash in Europe for track..

Think we are heading the direction of the players being considered employees if the house settlement stands. The school will
be directly paying the players to play for Pete’s sake.
