Might beat Iowa. Lose to MSU, Minny, Wisky, and will need a win at IU to advance. Not taking anything away from these players, but even as the guy wearing the OSU shirt told me yesterday leaving the state CC meet in Ft. Wayne, last night was going to be an upset. He was right, and I think OSU has some very bad internal issues.

At the beginning of the year I said 6 wins. Right or wrong, I will not try to change my prediction based on recent success. I'd rather be wrong than be a bandwagon flip flopper.

Still standing by my 7-5 season prediction......We beat MINNY and IU.....strong chance to beat a banged up MSU team next weak. IOWA and WISKY are beatable at home.....could be 8-4 if we stay healthy.

To think we lost the first three games by a total of what, 8 points. All very winnable. We could have been looking at a very, very good win-loss record. And it can still be much better than most of us thought it would be.

They say it is the darkest before dawn.

Never doubted that the Boilers will comeback after those close losses.
But, this is just way over what I had in my mind.

Just awesome!

Go Boilers!!!

WTF, lose to 'Lil PJ? Come on. Purdue is more likely to run the table than lose to those teams.

Sure, they won't all be like last night, but I think we've seen enough to say this team isn't a fluke. I'll say 7-5.

I still say Purdue will at least split Iowa and Wisconsin, and I think Purdue will win at Minnesota. That would be 6 wins and bowl eligibility.

That leaves MSU and Indiana. Getting at least one of those looks like a safe bet.

This team will win at Minnesota. I have zero doubt of that. Minnesota is a run first team. And we've already seen what Holt's defense does against running teams.

I already lost. I had us going 10-2, but thought we would win the first 3. I figured we would go 1-2 against Iowa, Wisc and OSU. Oh well there is always next year. Then again, we may win out and get the 10th and 11th win post season. So I am still in it.

Ill be very surprised if we can't beat MSU given how injury laden they are at key positions. No QB1 and WR1? Uh, yes please.

If Blough keeps staying within himself re: turnovers, we'll be fine.

3 loss teams don’t get a chance for 2 bowl games

The MSU game scares me the most just because of the possible letdown after such a monumental win. Not that it would have been an easy game anyway. When we beat No. 2 Ohio State in 1984, we had our worst loss of the year the next week. But if anyone can get us ready to play it is Coach Brohm. I am predicting 8 wins! Even if it is 7 wins, I won't be too upset as long as 2 of the 3 wins comes by beating Minnesota and IU. Now if we run the table, the Big West Title is very likely! That would be just off the charts incredible if we can do that!

I'm normally pretty much in agreement with your stance on things, but a total upset of the 2nd ranked Bucknut's who were ripe for a bad game, doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy for the rest of the year. I still say "Might beat Iowa....but Iowa is playing some damned good football as much as I hate to admit it. I still say the boys lose to MSU at Spartyland, Minny might be a win, but coming off the Iowa game, we might be a bit beat up, Wisky will beat us in a close one, and we'll need a win at IU to advance. I do think the way Blough, Knox, and Moore played in the game was very impressive and gives me the thought that they might win three instead of two more.

And speaking of IU, the more their coach is on TV the more I see the village idiot. Win against IU and it's bowl bound....Lose, and it's humiliation.

This team absolutely can go 9-3. But if I had to put money on it, the safest bet is 7-5. If they beat Michigan State all bets are off and we could be talking about a team poised to run the table

After the way this offense is playing, there’s not a team left on our schedule we can’t beat. Wisky is not as good as last year. Minnesota is bad. MSU is very vulnerable and banged up, just like IU. We have Brohm, they have Tom Allen and little PJ. Iowa is playing well, but we play them at home. Iowa doesn’t scare me because they are not a spread team like Mizzou, OSU, or even Nebraska.

I don’t know what you’ve been watching, but this team is playing very well right now. Much better than earlier this season.

Is Lewerke hurt? I thought they took him out just because he sucked.

TD, we will disagree on this one. I do fear a potential letdown against MSU but I really think that it will not occur. I am convinced that the coaches will rally the team and avoid the over-looking of the Spartans. I was not all that impressed with MSU even before their set of key injuries. I thought Purdue could take them then.

Iowa and Wisconsin are the two toughest teams left. We get Iowa in WL and there is a history with Wisconsin. Both are tough games; I could see a split (not sure which way) but I would also not be amazed to go 2-0 either. I do not believe either team is as good as some previous years.

As for Minnesota and IU: Purdue is simply a better team and a better coached team. I think Purdue wins both even though on the road.

What I think that you are not recognizing is that something special is happening. It doesn't always make sense and sometimes it takes a bit to see it - but it is real.

At the beginning of the season, nobody (possibly a few silent ones) here seriously thought Purdue had a snowball's chance of making the B1G Championship Game this year. Now it is at least being discussed, if still a long-shot. As Aladdin says in the Disney movie: "It's a Whole New World."

I'm okay with disagreeing, but instead of Alladin I'll take this one regarding PU football the rest of the year:
"False hope is clung to with all one's might and main, till a day comes when it has sucked the heart dry and it forcibly breaks through its bonds and departs. After that comes the misery of awakening, and then once again, the longing to get back into the maze of the same mistakes."

Rabindranath Tagore

I don't think there will be a letdown. If Purdue was playing Illinois then maybe but they are playing at Michigan state which will be a tough game. I would bet they are hungry for a big road victory.

I know what you mean. Purdue went to Michigan State immediately after the "Holy Toledo!" win over Ohio State in 2000, and the result wasn't good.

But, this is 2018, and these guys are a different team. We'll see how they respond.

Brohm is the coach. It matters.

Brohm is the coach. It matters.

Plus, that MSU team had just lost three straight to Purdue on crazy late meltdowns (1997 and 1998) and the Chris Daniels 300 receiving yards epic beatdown in 1999. So, ya, very different circumstances.

I think that 8 wins is now a very realistic expectation barring any significant, key injuries. Our challenge is not starters vs. opponent's starters; it's depth versus opponent's depth, particularly against Iowa, Wisconsin and MSU. Because we started 0-3 I don't think that we're set up for a let-down. I think that this young team learned the hard way in the first few weeks how fine the line is between winning and losing. I expect that they'll apply that lesson and maintain the focus and intensity. I think that the tenacity they showed versus OSU represents a step change in expectations for the program rather than an anomaly.

I like how there is 3 votes for 5 wins. Obvious trolls who must be picking the only win remaining against their loosier team

Bizarre. Purdue demolished them. Only now, because we embarrassed them, are you saying they were "ripe for a bad game" ... likely exactly how their fan base is trying to explain that loss. Fact is, they were rolling and we ran them off the field.

In 1984, our next game after OSU was vs Iowa. The Hawkeyes finished #16 in the nation that season. That wasn't our worst loss of the year.

Every loss in 1984 was to a team that finished the regular season with a winning record. On paper, our worst loss was to a MSU team that would go on to lose their bowl game and finish 6-6. I would argue our worst loss was vs. UVa in the Peach Bowl. We should have won that game.

That season was an interesting season. Until I went back and looked, I didn't realize we opened the season with 3 of our first 5 games against teams ranked #7 or better. Dang! And we won 2 of those 3!

Unfortunately, that was the pinnacle for Leon Burtnett, who would last only 2 more seasons as HC at Purdue. Even more interesting was that Leon had two future Purdue Head Coaches as his "right hand men," none other than Jim Colletto (OC) and Joe Tiller (DC). After that 1984 bowl game, that was the start of a 13 year bowl drought, which would be ended by Joe Tiller in his first season as Purdue's HC.
