??Everyone else seen enough?
He wants to say "I told you so"...??
What do you think you accomplish with a post like this?
Like them both but AOC moves the offense down the field quicker and Plummer’s mobility advantage is grossly overratedPretty much a quicker release, better reads, and more accuracy are to AO's advantage today.
Less mobility was only drawback against AO, but that was not the problem today against the Illini.
Perhaps it was his dynamics with receivers that enabled him the success in catching the ball.
I just liked him being there directing the offense despite his shortcomings (an interception and a sack) .
JP may be able to get things moving when things improve with the supporting casts,
We all want the winning, and therefore JB to pull all strings necessary for the team success/
Boiler Up!!
With a D that can get stops, I am AOK with AOC taking risks. Could of hurt us today…but taking risks was what we needed at that time in the game.I would be perfectly fine with Jack as the starter if you have a good RB that stabilize an offense that is moving it methodically with intermediate routes, which we are verrrryyy far from having right now. Jack is a game manager when you get down to it, but with the way this offense is depth wise, you almost need AOC to be the starter to have success. AOC is more willing to take the deep ball risks with the talented receiver core, also is more accurate all in all. With the way the offense is currently, I think AOC is the best option but not a slight at Jack at all. They are just 2 different QB’s in a not so favorable situation currently.
Plummer starts because he has more mobility but he seldom runs and he gets sacked too often.I think Jack has lost that edge.I like Jack Plummer. For whatever reason we don't push down the field much when he's in. We have 0 running game. With no intermediate or deep threat all the defense has to do is stop our WRs from breaking a tackle.
I’ve stated before that I can’t recall a single game in which #13’s mobility made much of a difference.Like them both but AOC moves the offense down the field quicker and Plummer’s mobility advantage is grossly overrated
Problem is, those things won’t get fixed overnight. Picking the QB who can make better lemonade with these lemons is something that can be controlled.Plummer isn't Drew Brees or Kyle Orton. But, I also don't think he's the main problem with this offense. To me, the bigger concerns are in the running game (or lack thereof) and the offensive line.
They have played together. AOC was QB when Bell got knocked out.AOC seems to have the superior arm talent. The offense just seems to respond better with him because of it.
Now combine his throwing ability with Bell being available and think what that could do for the offense. Can't remember, but don't think we've seen AOC on the field with Bell this season.
This is where I disagree. Do you really think the receivers were any less open in the first three quarters? I doubt it. Its just that Plummer won't throw them the ball. It doesn't appear that Plummer has the gun slinger mind set to run a high powered offense. .Whoever starts at QB has to have an OL to help the pocket from collapsing, and we have to have our WRs from dropping passes hitting them in the hands. It seemed like our WRs waited until the 4th quarter to come alive, Yaseen, Wright and Sheffield. It would be nice for our WRs to be like that for 4 quarters.
Also, if not asking too much, can we get David Bell back for next week, please?
The problem is playing not to lose works against mediocre teams but we have to have a QB that has to play to win and this requires a QB not afraid to make the tough throwsI wish I could see that birdseye and endzone film the coaches watch. My hunch is similar to what one of the other posters mentioned in that Jack has been coached as the starter to not turn the ball over so he has trouble cutting it loose. The mobility really isn't a factor if 3 guys are on you after your second read and they want him to hang in there. I guess I expected more designed rollout and bootlegs with him in there.
It’s not that he won’t.. I’m telling you the game is coming at him too fast and he can’t get through reads as fast as Oconnell. That pass to yaseen was not the first or second read …This is where I disagree. Do you really think the receivers were any less open in the first three quarters? I doubt it. Illinois had given up 30 points per game coming in. You wouldn't have known it while Plummer was playing. I just assumed no one was open downfield so all the passes were underneath. But once AOC came in guys were open on deeper routes. Purdue gained nearly twice as many yards with AOC in a little over a quarter than they did with Plummer the rest of the game. You really saw the same thing against ND.
Probably not. Mods please delete the rest of the responses. You might not want to post this?
I disagree. He’s not willing. Milton Wroght was the first read on a play action deep ball in the second quarter. Wright had a step and the safety was flat footed and only a few yards behind Wright at full speed. Plummer pulled it down and started running. It’s not that he won’t.. Knew we were in trouble at that point. I agree he reads defenses slower too but at several points he’s just been unwilling to take ANY risk.
The whole d@mn thread needs deleted.
Not a good look.
couldn't disagree more.If this thread needs deleted then we might as well shut down this whole forum. In the 2ish years I have been here I have seen 75% of all threads turn into Holt hate, Thieneman hate, Horvath hate, Brohm hate, walk on hate, even Moore hate for a time. There is actually a much higher number of people who love and defend Plummer over most of the guys I listed.

Just because there have been other threads that have been bad, that doesn't make this one "salvageable".

I don't mind when posters criticize a coach but I detest when a poster hates on a young kid. Before the season started I found myself defending O'Connell and Horvath to the point posters thought I was related. If this thread needs deleted then we might as well shut down this whole forum. I still like Plummer and he is playing well but like last year, our team seems to respond better with O'Connell. I did not think we would score a lot yesterday because we were without Bell and Horvath. Our offense has taken a step back without Horvath. I still don't think most posters realize how valuable he is to the team. Having said that, I appreciated the telecaster commenting that our RB was keeping his pads lower.

To me, this thread is just fine. It’s not getting personal, there’s no name calling. It’s factual…I agree completely. I don’t like going after the players. I like Plummer personally. I think he is extremely talented and could be a great player for us. He just looks different to me from last year. I don’t begin to know why but I hope it gets corrected and he goes on to lead us to great things. If he can even return to the form he showed a year ago I think we would be great with the improved defense.
I just know how badly this forum has historically attacked players relentlessly (go read a game thread, holy crap). This thread on Plummer is pretty tame by comparison.
I like fair and balanced analysis and detest both extremes. If I want rah rah I’ll listen to the coaches. If I want personal attacks I’ll go to my in laws.To me, this thread is just fine. It’s not getting personal, there’s no name calling. It’s factual…
If you have an issue, stay off the internet? It only gets darker from here.
I wish I would have a kid playing here and have another family member say that they’re picking on johnny on here. I’d tell that person to tell johnny that if he doesn’t turn down the accolades when he plays well, he better not cry when things don’t.I don't mind when posters criticize a coach but I detest when a poster hates on a young kid. these are not kids playing pop Warner and all too often it’s a scenario where if you try to explain to someone that player X just isn’t capable of something …. Now you’re picking on a kid. Even if you go out of your way to explain that you’re not blaming the kid.. you’re wondering why coaches didn’t prepare a more talented player.
and I really hope it isn’t a kid with pro aspirations. You wouldn’t want to break their spirit in time for them to learn how they he pros deal with your precious spirit.
there were pro scouts quacking loudly when Ken Dorsey threw at the combine … hope he wasn’t put through too many trials and tribulations on rivals lol
Yeah…you’re way off base here.I agree that players have to be mentally tough enough to handle any type of criticism. But I think it’s funny when people that will never be as successful in their own careers criticize someone who was top 5% of all high school players. Even the worst player on Purdue is already more successful than 99% of all posters here. To say a player sucks is saying that you are something substantially worse than sucking in your own career.
I played four sports fairly well but when I played there was no money professionally. I loved it when the opponents or a crowd got on my case. It fired me up. However, I could not process when our fans would get on me. I was extremely hard on myself and this criticism put me over the top and effected my play negatively. More so when I had to run crisp routes and catch anything I could get my hand on then when I rushed the QB and it was mainly strength rather than mental. When the crowd was behind me, I wanted the ball thrown anywhere in my direction and in rushing I was more effective in using the swim technique (frowned upon because of the pain to the ribs).I wish I would have a kid playing here and have another family member say that they’re picking on johnny on here. I’d tell that person to tell johnny that if he doesn’t turn down the accolades when he plays well, he better not cry when things don’t.
