Plane carrying Michigan Players Slides off Runway- No Injuries Reported

Oklahoma State lost 2 players and entire coaching staff in 2001 just east of Denver...Snow storm disoriented the pilot was the official report. All aboard perished. My step-son and 4 of our Grand kids living in Stillwater then and now so remember well.

Thanks I remember that now. Here is a little known fact that more Musicians have been killed in plane crashes than those who overdose.

And I'm old enough to remember all of those, sadly....

Michigan's 737-200 is just too old......last time the women's team visited I actually looked around that plane, and the engines must come from the early 80s, silver plated, unpainted engine and totally outdated. That day West Lafayette had a snowstorm and the plane was totally covered by snow. Thought they wouldn't leave until next morning but they still took off that night which from my point of view, extremely dangerous for a medium-range airplane that has been flying for almost 20 years. They should just rent chartered for their teams like us, at least Miami Air is an airline and their airplanes are younger than major airlines. An airline has more experienced flight crew that can deal with emergencies than some of the small air rental companies. Glad to hear that they're okay. Heard they rented an airplane from another company rather than using their old 732 but still, I wish they can learn from the accident.

Ronnie Van Zant (2 more band members, Jim Croce, Rick Nelson quickly come to mind...a lot more, but I'm just a Simple Man. My calculator doesn't go high enough to count the times I played "pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd"

Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper and Richie Valens, were my first I was like seven. Drove my parents crazy playing "Peggy Sue". Ricky Nelson and his band and of course Stevie Ray Vaughn. Small factoid, Clapton was on that Chopper but someone wanted him so he got off and Stevie Ray took his seat. Then in WWII my mother lost her band The Glenn Miller Orchestra in a plane crash during a USO tour.

Daisy, i would be far more concerned about maintenance of aircraft than age/technology. There are airframes and engines in military service right now that were originally built in the 50's and they are still fantastic machines. Very few crashes are attributable to engine failures in multi engine aircraft. Sorry. It just awoke my gas turbine geekiness.

Ozzy's tour bus driver (also some experience as a pilot, apparently) was the one that took Randy Rhoads and Rachel Youngblood (Ozzy's band's hairdresser at the time) on that ill-fated thrill flight when they got stuck somewhere on the road for whatever tour that was (Diary Of A Madman, I think). It turned out in the autopsy that the driver/pilot had cocaine in his system while he was piloting the plane.

sad and obviously avoidable

The Michigan team is going to leave on a 6 AM flight. They're still scheduled to play Illinois at noon. We'll see if this affects them at all.

I thought I heard that they had to leave uniforms, equipment, etc that was on board as part of the investigation with the incident.

Better test the air pressure and contents of the basketballs I guess.

I'm pretty sure the real reason is the brown stains on the backside of the shorts that wouldn't come out in the wash.

Seems to be having a positive affect so far...

People always seem to forget these are 18-22 year olds - they can usually brush just about anything off. Just like playing 2 games in 2 days - I don't think it really makes much of a difference for the double-bye. Now obviously as that adds up, it can become a difference - but not 2 in 2.

I was suggesting aplane crash on take-off is a little different than just two games/two days no matter the age. However, this will have made them Media and crowd favorites throughout both Tournaments...Understandably so.

I guess it had no effect, lol.

Actually not surprised to see adrenaline running on full today...They really had not had a chance to slow down with everything happening. What I was wondering is once they have a chance to let down tonight, that perhaps then they begin to feel it take a toll. Physiology-wise( how's that for a made up word!) it would be a pretty normal reaction. That's why the comment about hoping it takes only 24 hours after getting here- not 48...
