Plan at the Four?

Wondering if anyone has thoughts on Painter’s plan at the four when TKR is out or playing the five. Is it just burgess right now? Will we rely on Murphy for that? Feels like we could get crushed at least on defense with a lineup of Jacobsen and Cluff at the 4/5. That feels like our main hole right now that could cause problems with the wrong matchup.

Otherwise, I think we are Final Four ready.

I could see a combo of Jacobsen at the 4 and Cluff playing center being a very good combo should tkr need a break. Or tkr and Jacobsen. And Cluff taking a break.

Burgess is going to have to fight for the minutes he gets.

It may be matchup dependent, but I assume that is the reason Painter added Murphy. I really don’t see any reason for TKR to spend any time at the 5, btw, when you have Cluff and DJ.

might want to retype some things since it is confusing...at least me. you wrote, "Feels like we could get crushed at least on defense with a lineup of Danielson and Cluff." and then ask about who would play the four. That lineup if played together would only allow 1-3 players additionally. Course that crushing on D would have to happen by someone on the opposition being very effective behind the arc since inside the arc, it might be pretty hard to score. There are way too many questions to get a feel on this team. Daniel in some situations could play the four. However. if only Cluff OR Daniel are at the 5 and Trey goes out at the four, then I believe Liam would be called upon and if Purdue wanted to really go small (which I doubt Matt does this), then Jack could fill the four spot. For all we know, Daniel might be able to play the 4? We just don't know how Cluff and DAniel can do away from the basket.

In watching Murphy's clips I think Painter will use him at the 4 when TKR is taking a breather. I don't see any way that Murphy can guard the 1-3. He reminds me of a larger but slower version of Dakota Mathias. He is a strong shooter and entry passer, so l think he will be most effective pulling the other teams 4 to the perimeter creating 1 on 1 situations for Jacobson and Cluff.

I doubt we see TKR and Murphy together, but it's possible against a smaller team where TKR is a better matchup against their 5. I can already see tons of opportunity for Murphy to feed it to Cluff who gets double teamed and fires a pass right back out to one of our guards opposite side for an open 3. With Murphy we could have a lineup of 4 deadly 3 point shooters on the court with a 5 who demands a double team. Gonna be a fun Season for Purdue fans!

I would like to see Burgess make a big leap over the summer. He should be solid at the 4.

TKR and Cluff and Murphy are all getting time at the 4. Cluff, DJ are your primary 5s and possibly TKR.

Burgess is obviously an option at the 4 as well if he doesn't shirt.

You've got five guys who could play those two positions so the depth there is light years better than last season.

Dude is an all time great Purdue QB, but he is also 73 and just retired from commentating. The only "spot" minutes he will get is age spots.

Plus I think he used up all of his eligibility anyways, what a ridiculous comment thinking he could get any minutes at the 3.

What is clear to me, with Purdue's current roster, there is no dropping off the 4/5 like teams did with Furst as this team will shoot and hit that shot.

It always bugged me that Caleb wasn't confident to shoot the three ball just to keep the D honest. But, DJ, Burgess, and Murphy will take that shot.

November will be fun.

i don't see tKR playing any minutes at center. you have Cluff and jacobsen and burgess. I can see Jacobsen playing at the 4 with cluff.

I'll admit I don't believe Cluff will be the greatest ever, but i could see him getting 25-30 minutes in some games if needed. I believe Cluff could be much like Haas,and jacobsen could be a lot like Haarms and play both center and the 4.

I can see Murphy playing the 4 and the 3 in certain situations . Did heide ever play the 3 ?
