We came out and punched Pitt right in the nose, but they didn’t flinch. They came right back at us. In the later part of the first half, they won the chess game and they out hustled us. I was impressed with Pitt:
They are tough and they are fighters
They are deep and the guys off the bench don’t have much drop off from the starters
They are well coached. There was quite a chess game going on between Painter and the Pitt coach.
In the end, we pulled it out through some sharp shooting by Cline and tough play under the basket. IN the last 5 minutes, Pitt looked like they ran out of gas. I think our depth and intensity wore them down. Their legs were gone by then, but they still played hard. I was impressed, and I hope they make some noise in the ACC.
