DM make the transition pretty easily. I don't really see the pg position as an issue next year because we have plenty of ball handlers on the team already. DM is by far the best passer on the team, if he works hard on his ball handling skills over the summer, he would be my first choice. Ray and Vince have also both brought the ball up court a lot this year. Throw in PJ and Weatherford and I don't think the we are hurting as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

We dont have anyone that can guard the point. That was what Octeus brought

Is he able to bring the ball up?

I thought he was intended to be more of an off the ball defender.

PJ is certainly capable. He made huge strides and was a menace later in the season. Obviously with him, size is an issue. However, as you learn how to play the game at the college level, it's not as much of an issue and you learn how to play with that size (ala Lewis Jackson). That being said, he's certainly not going to match-up greatly with some teams out there, like a Maryland with a 6'3" point guard.

That being said, there's a decent chance we'll see someone come in. And Weatherford is coming in to be a defensive player.

Against quality point guards, speed is an issue for P.J. as well. He doesn't have the quickness of a Lewis Jackson, Tarrance Crump, or Willie Deane.

Agreed. There is a reason Painter put Bryson in to guard Yogi instead of PJ both times we played. I like PJ, but really in more of a backup role at this point. The kid from Nova looks like he could guard a lot of the quicker points in the league, it would be quite a coup if we could get him.

Not an issue. We'll be able to switch on everything.
Not enough and a recipe for foul trouble

Against UC, he put PJ in for DM in the OT for defense....not Scott. PJ also did a pretty good job against Illinois.

I think Ray showed the way this past year with the leaps in ability he made through hard work, including the DPOTY honor. I think Dakota, PJ, all of players are going to follow the example & get in top shape + close skill gaps in the off-season. Like the OP, I could see Dakota playing point, backed up by PJ. and Weatherford.

I think the non-PG situation is even more interesting if Swanigan joins. A lot of good players will be trying to fit into those other four positions on the floor. Who among Hammons, Haas, Edwards, & Smotherman gives minutes to Swanigan? Or does Ray really pull a Cuonzo this year and become an outside shooter, landing him at the 2? That's probably be the best case scenario, but then what if Cline is such a lights out shooter that you can't keep him on the bench? Or maybe Stephens stops being streaky and steps up his D even more. If everybody really works and improves, with Swanigan we've got...
PG - TBD add, PJ, Dakota, Weatherford
SG - Dakota, Stephens, Cline, Davis
SF - Davis, Stephens, Edwards, Smotherman
PF - Edwards, Smotherman, Swanigan, Taylor
C - Hammons, Haas, Taylor

What potential... It's exciting to think about how good this team could be next year with some improvement through hard work + some luck. Boiler Up!
