1. Merkell Jones appeared shaken up on several plays last week, getting up slowly, coming out of the game on a few occasions and grimacing on the field and bench. Is this a concern??
2. I don't want to criticize a guy who is clearly engaged and cares, but I'm not sure Yancey is reaching his full potential. Do coaches teach receivers to not layout for passes within arms reach? Several balls last year, and a very obvious one in the spring game (telling me he hasn't changed), were catchable with just a little more effort. Why is jumping, diving, or even *reaching* for a ball out of the question? Lazy routes, 0 YAC yards, refusal to fight for balls. Even his TD catch Saturday he let the ball come all the way to him, rather then go after it. Is there something off here, or are my expectation inflated based on what I hear?
3. I realize we will be thin at WR next year, but are there any thoughts about moving Jarrett Burgess to defense so he's not buried in the depth chart his whole career? He has speed, size, and strength, and he is on punt and kickoff coverage. Surely his raw talent can be developed into a CB or S rather quickly, areas we need help with. They eventually want Terrance Landers involved more, which makes perfectly sense considering how thin we are next year. But this pretty much guarantees Burgess is buried at WR.
4. I went back and watch the game. I'm not sure Leroy Clark's tackling is as bad as earlier reported. He can certainly improve open field tackling, but I think part of it is that he is put in a difficult position, having to come up and blitz from the safety position. (Am I wrong here?) Regardless, schematically, I'm not sure blitzing with smaller safeties worked. Doesn't it make sense to have an extra LB or DL on the field to get a rush, especially since those are our strengths, rather then run a delayed blitz. Whenever we did get pressure it was from Panfile. Delayed blitzes get picked up by a RB, whereas an extra LB could get in there.
5. I was very impressed with Ross-Ade's attempt to get the crowd engaged with the game. The JUMBOTRON was used very nicely with social media interactives, games, and pictures, and game replays were timely. This hasn't always been the case. And the music was very upbeat. They often played catchy dance songs that got the fans up and moving. If Stanky Leg helps us get a few extra wins, I'm cool with it!
