I have to admit, I had no idea what he was talking about with all the strategy stuff. Spain??? Starting around 12:30 of this clip.

I’m with you and didn’t follow all it but in a Spain screen action a big sets a middle ball screen at the top of the key while a guard/shooter sets a back screen on the big’s defender. Big rolls to the rim after screening and if the back screen is effective he has a path to the rim and ball handler gets him the ball. Simultaneously the guard/ shooter who set the back screen pops out to the three point line at the top and often gets an open look if his defender gets caught up taking away the roll man.

A lot of our actions.

Paint was having some fun with that answer.

What I took from it is that this is why it is so important to have coachable, intelligent players who can follow these adjustments and continue to play together as a cohesive unit. It is a lot easier said than done.

Agree. Do you think he was also funking with the media a little bit, letting them know that they really don’t understand wtf is going on?

This stuff is so fascinating and interesting to listen to Painter talk.

What I’ve learned, it isn’t about watching Braden at the top of the key with TKR setting a screen - you have to watch the secondary action happening that is creating options 2, 3, 4 etc. This is why Fletch is gets so many minutes over other players, because he knows where to go to get that shot or outlet.

It is also a reason I like when CJ is initiating the offense instead of Smith for change of pace. It causes a lot of disruption because CJ can score at all 3 levels and Smith is running around screens, setting screens and everything else.

Here's another pretty darn good breakdown here of Spain, Chin Action*, and more......en Inglés.

And....Chi-Boiler officially off the hook. :)

* the last Chin Action I could recall had something to with checking out all the tire manufacturers/retailers on the Islands.
