Painter at Purdue ... The Pros & Cons

No, I'm just not the type of fan who sits there and whines "Oh...it's so tough to recruit to Purdue, we have all these negatives about the school and disadvantages....If we were only located in a nicer area, had easier academics, were near a beach, had great nightlife....no wonder we don't get to the FF or win a NC. Gee, I'm just proud that we win 20 games a year."

Those are called "excuses".
If there's one program we should be comparing ourself to, it's MSU and I can guarantee you don't here those fans whining about how tough it is to get players there.
with each and ever post, you prove without a doubt that you are completely clueless. Every one of your points have been refuted with hard facts yet you are too braindead to comprehend it.

Excellent points.
It's comical to me to read that some people on hear believe Purdue faces recruiting challenges that other schools don't.

Academics: who was the last player we lost to academics? And contrary to popular belief, Purdue does have a general studies major.

Probably Jeff Robinson to Xavier......some might "argue" that it had an effect on Mitch McGary's recruiting as well. In the old days, Glenn Robinson lost a year of eligibility under the Prop 48 rules. So.....not very often, but it does happen.

I would tend to agree that although Purdue may have some more difficult standards than some, when compared to everything else and other similarly-situated schools, it's overall effect on recruiting is probably not very significant. I would guess there are some limited number of potential recruits that CMP doesn't go after because of eligibility concerns, but that's no different than many other coaches IMO.

Coach
Coaching staff (especially recruiters)
Program
University (degrees, campus, etc.)
Other factors

They all have a role (and an effect to varying degrees), but I would speculate that the head coach, himself, is the single biggest contributing factor to recruiting success in most cases. JMO......and undoubtedly an over-simplification.

Did I qualify that enough?

I have posted before that I thought CMP had started to make inroads with recruiting recently, and I still think that.....CS......IH......VE, DM from Ohio.....are good recruiting successes....to build on. Carsen Edwards from Texas could be another.

It's a slow, steady process with CMP and probably too slow for all those who follow Purdue....sometimes, expectations are good......sometimes a hindrance......2017 will be interesting. Also, it's just tougher these days......you sometimes don't really have the time like in the old days to "build." It's a what-have-you-done-for-me lately perspective.....not just in NCAA basketball.

I get the frustration. Is it good enough for the Purdue administration? We'll see if that day comes when a decision or alternative choice comes up....

Excellent post. Couldn't have said it better myself.
The single, most important factor in recruiting is the head coach. Period. End of story.

Let me also add that whoever is the coach also needs to have the resources to fit his recruiting strategy or plan....and CMP has made some progress there as well. Maybe some disagree with the way that all went down, or why that had to happen......that's another topic.....discussion......or argument.......for another day......

or another episode of "As the Hammer Falls......"

But you said "Excellent points" to a post criticizing MP for not keeping recruits. Then, twice you use MSU as a model for success. They already announced that two players are transferring.

I have no problem with players transferring, unless of course, it's your potential starting PG.
anyway, MSU should be our model program because the schools are similar in so many ways except for the success they've had since Heathcote and Keady left.

I doubt that many on the team were unhappy when RJ transferred.
