P.J. Fleck Is Coming To Purdue

I would be happy to get Fleck, but I am suspicious that he is using the excuse of not talking with teams until after the MAC championship game as a way to shop his services around. I'm also worried that the he may be using our interest to drum up interest from others ala Butch Jones. Do you think he would wait until after next Friday to talk to LSU or Texas?

If he wants to be here, he should be willing to commit this weekend. We would still let him coach the MAC game. If he is unwilling to commit this weekend, then we should not allow ourselves to be played and should move on.

Those jobs are filled, NC ST has said they are sticking with there HC. Not a lot of openings this year.

Yay, more 3 win seasons.
Those of you saying utter crap like ^^^this guy^^^ clearly haven't been paying much attention to the actual game of football. PJ Fleck has out-recruited the bottom half of the B1G the last 2-3 years at WESTERN MICHIGAN. IF he comes to Purdue...we would be incredibly fortunate to have him. He's young, he's hungry, a former player who can actually connect with the players from an individual standpoint as well as the team as a whole....and he can recruit...not just "athletes"...he can recruit the right players for the right position.
Those of you who believe a 63 year old Les Miles is the right man for Purdue are too young to remember Purdue hiring Fred Akers from Texas...Purdue won the press conference but lost a ton of games with him as HC. Les Miles & Fred Akers are/were used to their school names attracting top tier recruits...we only share that luxury at one position...QB...and lately even those guys are skipping town and starting elsewhere (and playing well btw) as Purdue had zero offensive minds behind the headset in recent years.
Think what you may about the possibility of PJ Fleck leading this basement dwelling program forward. Purdue hiring a coach who may lead WM to a New Years Day Bowl 4 years ago would've had Boilermakers everywhere in a frenzy...yet we all make assumptions about MAC coaches bc The Morgue made an awful hire from there. Just remember that some of the best coaches in the game today came from the MAC.

Yeah so did Doeren as well. How did that work out. Again if they throw stupid dollars at Fleck, then they have learned nothing from the 4 year disaster.

Yeah. The first thing I think of when I hear 'Les Miles' is Fred Akers. Honestly, I will be cautiously optimistic if we get Fleck or Akers (or several others). I don't think any of them are a guarantee, of course.

It makes you think of a coaching tenure from 30 years ago? Interesting.

Yup. It's the first thing I think of because of the similarities of the situations. An aging southern coach (Akers from Texas) who had success being hailed as a 'savior'... of course, it didn't work out that way for Purdue. I'm not saying wouldn't work out for Miles, but I'm also not convinced he'll be winning national championships should he arrive in West Lafayette.

The sport doesn't has changed a lot since Akers who recruited very well for the record was at Purdue.
