Purdue leaves on their overseas trip on Aug 7th and will be gone for 11 days.

Zach Edey just made the final roster for this year Canada national team and that doesn't start until Aug 25. The Canadian national team does have several warmup games between Aug 9-18th.

Does Edey participate with the national team or go on Purdue summer basketball trip?

Maybe this has already been stated, and I missed it.

Would love to have the whole team for Purdue's trip, but could be a good look at having TRK, Furst and Gillis getting all the mins at the 4 & 5.

Zach is playing with Canada. I agree that an extended look at the other bigs will be nice.
Yes, Zach will not make the Purdue European trip. Agree that it’s a win / win. Zach gets to play and practice with and against a bunch of pros and the rest of the Purdue team has to figure out how to play winning basketball without Zach.

Last I heard, Berg will not be travelling to Europe either. Apparently still recovering from foot surgery.

That creates an interesting scenario with a 10 man roster:
Three guys will be competing for minutes at the 1 and 2 (Loyer, Jones, and Smith)
Three guys will be competing for minutes at the 4 and 5 (Furst, Kaufman-Renn, and Gillis).
Four guys apparently competing for minutes at the 3 (Morton, Waddell, Heide, and Colvin).

Question is, can Heide effectively play some 4, or Colvin some 2? Lots to learn from this trip.

I think the Berg question is now up in the air, i.e. he was practicing with the team last week (taking every other day off) and I believe that Painter said that they're evaluating whether or not he will play on the European trip.

To your point though, that decision may be based as much on how they want to allocate minutes as it is based on whether Berg is ready to play. If they want Heide to get some experience as a stretch 4 they probably don't need Berg. If they want to play TKR exclusively at the 4 rather than playing both the 4 and 5 they probably need Berg to back up Caleb while Zach is with the Canadian national team.

My gut after witnessing the limited playing time and watching some videos is that Colvin likely can play the 2 position besides the 3, possibly very effectively with his stroke and athleticism. I also think Morton may fill in minutes at both the 1 and 3 and Jones at both 1 and 2. A legit question is can Jones and Colvin both quickly pick up the offense at both positions?

If nothing else, I could see Heide bringing value at the 4 in late game press breaking situations as he seems well equipped to attack pressure in the open court.

Jones, a fifth-year D1 player, should adjust to Purdue (which he chose and chose him) more quickly than true freshman Colvin. No knock on Colvin acknowledging Jones is older with
more experience. Should be fun to see.
