This shit is Game of Thrones mixed with Serial.
11/12 - Tennessee AD John Currie fires Butch Jones following first winless SEC season in program history.
11/26 - Tennessee agrees in principle to make Ohio State DC Greg Schiano the next head coach. Protests erupt on campus due to admittedly weak connections to the Sandusky cover-up, probably had more to do with him being an unflashy hire.
11/27 - Tennessee backs out of deal with Schiano, who may or may not have signed an MOU that may or may not entitle him to a buyout.
11/27 - Tennessee begins scrambling for other options. Makes formal offer to Oklahome State HC Mike Gundy, has plane ready to pick him up.
11/28 - Gundy turns down offer, may have been a power play for himself at Ok St. UPDATE: Gundy's salary increased to $5 million a year.
11/28 - Tennessee offers job to Duke HC David Cutcliffe who immediately turns it down.
11/29 - Tennessee talks to Purdue HC Jeff Brohm, but talks seem to not go anywhere. A very shaky rumor (but may become relevant later) states that Brohm agreed in principle to a deal, but when Currie took the deal to the school chancellor it got shot down. Currie then offered Brohm a reduced deal who obviously declined. Again, this probably didn't happen, but may be important later.
11/29 - Tennessee moves on to target NC State HC Dave Doeren.
11/29 - Students forcibly removed from Tennessee basketball game for making anti-Currie chants and signs. Pep Band told to play as loud as possible during every stoppage in play to drown out students.
11/29 - By the way, this entire time an ex-Tennessee HC has been trolling the program on Twitter in presidential proportions:
11/30 - Doeren declines Tennessee offer, clearly used it for contract extension at NC State.
11/30 - Tennessee allegedly contacts former Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin about the job, unknown how talks went.
11/30 - John Currie flies to Los Angeles to meet with Washington State HC Mike Leach. Currie was told to not offer any deals of any kind. Currie offers same MOU to Leach as Schiano. Leach allegedly agrees and signs.
12/1 - Tennessee fires Currie. Cordova-esque chancellor (does not involve herself with athletics when possible) will meet with press at 4pm.
12/1 - National sports reporters reveal that former Tennessee HC Phil Fulmer, who was involved in the search committee, has been purposefully sabotaging the coaching search in hopes that Currie would be removed and he himself would be named the new AD. Currie was Assistant AD when Fulmer was fired from Tennessee.
12/1 - Reports that multiple people from within the Tennessee athletic department have been calling each coaching candidate, telling them to not take the job and that the job was "toxic". Lines up with Brohm reports that talks didn't go anywhere, but perhaps implicates school chancellor if shaky rumors of her turning down agreed-upon deal have some truth to them.
12/1 - Phil Fulmer named interim AD. Update: No interim, he'll be the full-time Athletic Director.
