Posted this on KHC, figured I'd share it here too. What a spectacular time of the year. The snow melts, the birds start chirping, the grass starts growing....and oh yea, college basketball reached it's peak.
Because of the Valpo thread I saw earlier about the Bryce Drew play, I randomly saw this link on
YouTube of the last couple mins of No Iowa and Kansas and watched the whole 8 or so mins of the game's finish. Every year this tourney delivers with moment like this one, forever immortalizing Ali Farokmanesh, a guy that 99.9% of the country had never heard of. (The part starts around 5:15). Love Kevin Harlan's call of it.
This game was even more fun as a viewer because I knew most of the guys on the UNI roster from watching our tough win over them in the 5/12 game the year before. There's been a bunch of 8's and 9's beat 1 seeds the last few years, but I believe KU was the first not to in at least a decade at that time.
It doesn't matter that I'm watching the clips of games where I already know who wins, it still gets the juices and nerves flowing.
People forgot what a huge favorite Kansas was that season going into the tourney. I'm calling it now, if you are giving me Kentucky or the field, I'm taking the field.
