Now that we have officially moved on to our next stage/coach,
I can enjoy their own version of a coaching carousel

Read on their rivals board last week about this ad planned (SB tribune if anyone reads it ha)

And across campus

For Death, you can add the student he forced to go up the tower during the severe wind...

Funny how that wasn't a big deal to them when they were 12-0 and playing in the national title game. I've heard it mentioned several times recently. They must have thought there was enough other stuff to put in here where they thought they could do the classy thing and not bring it up in this ad. I have no doubts they'd add it if they thought it would get them to where they wanted.

I'm wondering. If ND fires Kelly this week, what coaches are in play for them? Would a coach that has signed elsewhere be able to still go to ND? Someone like Rhule? Would they have to go after Fleck?

There are some on the Domer board that want Fleck. Others say that he is too young and inexperienced.

Isn't ND still paying off Charlie Weiss? What is the time remaining on BK's contract? If ND fires him now, they would be paying a lot of money to fired coaches and then a new coach on top of that.

Weis' contract was up about a year ago. Money will be no object.

They just signed Kelly to an extension that lasts through 2021 so if they cut him loose they will owe him for a LONG time just after they got done paying Weis.

May not matter but but the timing seems screwed up to me because I'm not sure who they get at this point and I think they are crazy if they think Fleck is the solution to their problems after one great year in the MAC.

My ND friends on Facebook like Chip Kelly or Greg Schiano.

Appears Chip maybe available in a few weeks. Greg would clean up the program and they'd play more disciplined but I'm not sure how high his ceiling is.

Of course any Domer Wish List has to include Urban and the Grudens.

Well they can dream on about Urban Meyer. As for Gruden, I think they'd be beyond stupid to pay Brian Kelly's buyout for a coach that has been doing tv for 8 years and never has been a head coach in college. Not saying Gruden couldn't be a decent college coach but it's a heck of a price to pay to find out. For them to pay the Brian Kelly buyout, they had better have someone lined up that is a no-brainer. Aside from Chip Kelly, I see nobody that I think they can get that has a demonstrated excellent track record at the college level.

I think it is harder for Notre Dame to win now than it was in 1988. Back the, ND had a lot of built-in advantages --- mostly stemming from tradition, name recognition, and television exposure.

But, the 85 scholarship rule along with the explosion of nationally-televised games and media coverage has diluted a lot of those advantages.

The 85 scholarship rule has spread talent to more programs that are historically second-tier (i.e. Stanford, TCU, Baylor). Back in '88 Notre Dame could tout playing on national television a lot, but today most FBS teams play on national television regularly and even weak P5 programs play nationally-televised games almost every week.

ND used to be a media market unto itself, but now most regular top=25 programs are awash in similar exposure.

ND can still sell itself as a great university and a tradition-rich football program. But, those things might not mean as much to today's recruits as the sparkle and flash available at at least a dozen other programs.

Well, another thing is that most of ND's national championships were merely voted for them to win and the majority were voted during an era when ND didn't play bowl games. Now with the playoff system, the NC is won on the field. So yes, it is harder for them to win another NC now then it was back then.
