Here's a good read for all those who have been posting about recruiting and about 3-point shooters.

"Kruger has brought Oklahoma to the threshold of a No. 1 seed by doing two things that go against "the book" of college basketball's accepted wisdom. First, OU has largely opted out of (or failed to succeed in) the pursuit of the nation's top-ranked recruits. And, the Sooners' success in 2015-16 has been built overwhelmingly on just one facet of the game, the 3-point shot."

Not sure it's that simple. IU is a great 3 point shooting team over the last several years and has more 5 star recruits over the last several years than any other Big Ten team, but they have nothing to show for it, wouldn't you agree?

Every team has strengths and weaknesses. Last year, Wisconsin was middle of the pack in the Big Ten in terms of 3 point shooting. Nothing super flashy. But they had other strengths that made them the quality of team they are, like excellent with defense and turnovers.

There's no "magic" stat that hey you shoot 3s really well = success.

I totally agree, I just posted that because I thought it was a good read based on the quantity of posts regarding those two topics.

The big thing it and your comments bring up is that there is no secret sauce. Look at Shaka Smarts VCU teams. or Temple's teams from several years ago. One would think they both had some secret sauce when in reality they had players who bought-in and a style that was hard to prepare for.

I have noted over the past several years that those teams who pull upsets almost always do it with 3-point shooting. It does not always carry them further, especially when the shooters go cold, but it seems to be the key to upsets.

I am always interested in those great 3-point shooters from the smaller schools who may or probably may not have been that good in HS.

The key is, you can't have all of your 3 point shooters go cold at the same time, of if it does happen, make sure it's not against a really good team or in the tourney.
If you've watched PU over the last few years, you've seen this happen several times. You've also seen the entire team get hot at the same time, AND sometimes, both happen in the same game (Iowa this year).
So, point being, having a 3-25 night against a good team like MD is going to get you beat 95% of the time. You've got to have someone step up and knock down a few clutch 3's when the game's on the line (Cline against Pitt) (PJ vs FL). You've got to have a cold blooded assassin ready to step into a 3 and hit it when you really need it (Chad Austin, E'Twaun). I think Kendall can be that guy but MP doesn't trust him enough but he also doesn't let KS get into a rhythm with his limited playing time either.
Vince has had some WIDE OPEN looks late in games this year but I don't think he's a clutch shooter.

Yes, I just looked at the NCAA D1 3-point percentages for this year. Oklahoma is #1 at 45%. MSU and Kansas tied for 3rd and IU tied for 5th. Just dropping to a more normal % would lose a lot of games. I remember the PU team many years ago that was very good, but had to play the first round of the tourney in the Silverdome with a floor set up in a corner of the field. NO BACKGROUND at all. Our shooters couldn't find the basket.
