I don't understand how they continue to do this. I'm not a Pacers fan but it's easy to become one right now.
I'll say this, OKC blew it by not getting up 20+ in the first half. All of those turnovers didn't result in enough points on their end. Plus I'm utterly confused on how they use Holmgren. I thought with Wallace starting instead of Hartenstein it would make it easier for Holmgren to eat, but I think he had 8 and 5. I am officially done betting his props. Every time I do he has a game like last night. And I only needed 10 and 8.
My thoughts on how:
1. Against most teams, they play at a pace the other team can't keep up with, which leads to fatigue in the fourth quarter. Indy is still relatively fresh, ready to hit threes, and push, the other team is starting to short arm shots, struggling to keep up. This leads to Indiana consistently winning the last quarter, by a lot. Not necessarily the case against OKC, bc, they also play with pace.
2. Everyone on that team can shoot the 3. Everyone. They easily put five guys out there who can hit threes, including their bench.
3. The coaching staff adjusts in game. Like last night, Nembhard starting playing point instead of Haliburton late in the game, and it instantly changed things for the better.
4. No fear. They simply don't get tight. They certainly have bad plays, or even bad games (Game 3 Knicks), but they don't get tight at the end of the game, in fact, I'd be willing to bet they shoot a higher percentage the closer the game gets to the end.
5. Underrated defense. You don't turn the ball over 19 times in a half and only give up 9 pts off those turnovers unless your defense is really good. Yeah, Shea went nuclear, but no one else really did. Meanwhile look at their boxscore, like what five players in double figures, or six I think. The entire starting lineup plus Toppin.
