They just keep surprising me. I thought they were too thin up front (literally and figuratively) to compete with the real horses. But turns out there's just not many of those anymore so they keep overcoming physical whippings with lots and lots of points. And it keeps working. Not just against an injury depleted superteam like the Cavs.
Way to go Pacers!!!

Crazy bounce on game-tying bucket. I like the sideline fans at MSG…holding up two-fingers to the celebrating Pacers on the court….letting the Pacers know it only tied the game…and wasn’t a game winning 3. Only…prolonged the inevitable…Pacers in OT!

Still, that last second shot and the end of regulation is the kind where you can literally hear the guts being ripped out of the opponents and their fans. Personal experience here. :)

I have no idea what you're talking about.......

I don't watch much NBA, but turned it on and saw what people have been saying. The Pacers are a tough match up because of how they play and depth. You don't see NBA teams play a full court press all game and then play fast up tempo offense which catches the other team off guard and doesn't give them a chance to catch their breaths. There was several occasions the Pacers would turn an inbound off a made Knicks shot in a fast break layup because how quickly they play. They just grind teams down to where they are out of gas by the end of the game.

It was interesting, but also still found it horrible to watch, just not a NBA fan with the style of play. Too much one on one and it's either at the bucket or jack up a 3.

It’s an interesting matchup in a lot of ways. I think a big one is the pacers have depth and the bench plays a good amount compared to the Knicks who are the opposite of that. Their coach also may or may not be notorious for playing his starters a lot of mins throughout the season 😂

I am enjoying watching. Rick Carlisle is a great coach and the Pacers have figured out a formula that works. The Knicks are a tough, physical team, but they just are not built to play at the Pacers’ pace for 48 minutes. You have to admire a team that can force their style of play on the opposition and use it to win games that they really have no business winning.

I don't watch NBA and only tuned in b/c it was the Pacers. I was laughing at the lack of foul calls. I mean, they let these guys get extremely physical, like watching a good co-rec game where guys call fouls on themselves. You have to be extremely strong with the ball and handle a ton of contact.

I suppose that's the directive from the league to keep the offense and game flowing.

Tbh last night was the first time in a while that the refs didn’t fall for Brunson’s foul bait. He usually turns into a bobblehead and the refs give him a LOT of calls. The first game, he tried taking Nesmiths arm and hitting himself in the face with it. Brunson is a good player that doesn’t need to do all that.

If you want to really be frustrated go watch SGA on OKC. The fouls he baits the refs to call are ridiculous 😂

Yep, they've got me enjoying the NBA again.

The refereeing is so inconsistent in the NBA. It's a joke. We think the college refs suck. My wife is a big Pacers fan, I could give or take them, doesn't matter. We watched that game last night and it seemed like every possession there was a questionable call or no call. They called a somewhat weak moving screen on Thomas Bryant, yet 90% of the screens set in the NBA are technically moving and illegal. Siakam got an and-one for falling to the floor from the right wing.

That all being said, I have no idea what Thibs was doing last night.

😂 😂 spot on

I mean they run plenty of sets, it's absolutely not just a 3 or a dunk. The Pacers ran a very interesting set in OT in game 1 where they line up like football players running routes in the backcourt and it worked to free a player.

The difference between college and NBA is that almost every player is super talented and a great athlete so going one on one and making a shot is a lot more viable. Siakam was simply unguardable last night and they don't run plays for him, he just understands how to get the shots he wants and can hit.

Yeah I've seen them run that football play often, and it works quite a bit.

Siakam should be a matchup nightmare for most teams, but sometimes it seems like he doesn't give a shit.

I think it was Chuck maybe that made the point or Draymond(someone on TNT). But against Boston, Knicks were able to conserve a little more energy because the Celtics play a lot more one on one and shooting 3s. And the Pacers are constantly running and trying to find mismatches. Anyone that has ever watched a Thibs team, knows he runs his starters basically all game. This is just a really bad matchup for them.

Brunson also holds the damn ball for 17 seconds of the 24 trying to get 1 on 1 action or PnR and if he doesn’t score, it really hurts his team. Theres a reason the Knicks play with a faster pace with him on the bench.

The Pacers know their chance is to run the legs off them. Certainly can't bang with them.

I don't remember what game it was -- game 2 or 3 against the Cavs .... But Indiana played REAL basketball. Cutting, extra passes. I couId hear Geno yelling "MOVE! I wish I had saved it. It was masterful.

It was really the worst matchup possible for the Knicks in the ECF. They played 6 games in the first 2 rounds and their starters after all 14 games are averaging 35+ mpg. Hali right now is averaging 34.9mpg. He's the highest on the Pacers and has only played in 12 games.

Knicks starters out of 672 minutes possible for each player...

Mikal Bridges- 568
OG- 557
Brunson- 545
Hart- 516
KAT- 495

The next two for them are McBride at 283 and Robinson at 273.

The Pacers?

Haliburton- 419
Nembhard- 399
Siakim- 396
Turner- 374
Nesmith- 367

Then there are 3 dudes who have played between 187 and 199.

Blowing a 20-point lead at home hurts. Next game is critical...if Pacers lose that one, too...I expect the Knicks to win this series.

True. Most of the NBA players can hit almost any shot from anywhere on the court. It's pretty remarkable.

CHOICES the coach makes.
Compare the 2 team starters side by side and pick 1 at each position.
Most people would choose a Knick at EVERY position. Most would even take the little guy over Haliburton.
But the little guy doesn't make his "team" better like Hali does. ;)
Thibs might be a very good coach, but he deserved to get fired.
Or maybe the GM, since he put the pieces together.
Including this whopper:
Knicks receive:

  • Mikal Bridges
  • Keita Bates-Diop
  • 2026 2nd-round pick
  • Draft rights to Juan Pablo Vaulet
Nets receive:

  • Bojan Bogdanovic
  • Mamadi Diakite
  • Shake Milton
  • unprotected 1st-round pick in 2025
  • unprotected 1st-round pick in 2027
  • unprotected 1st-round pick in 2029
  • unprotected 1st-round pick in 2031
  • unprotected pick swap in 2028
  • top-four protected 2025 1st-round pick via Bucks
  • 2nd round pick in 2025

I don't understand how they continue to do this. I'm not a Pacers fan but it's easy to become one right now.

I'll say this, OKC blew it by not getting up 20+ in the first half. All of those turnovers didn't result in enough points on their end. Plus I'm utterly confused on how they use Holmgren. I thought with Wallace starting instead of Hartenstein it would make it easier for Holmgren to eat, but I think he had 8 and 5. I am officially done betting his props. Every time I do he has a game like last night. And I only needed 10 and 8.

My thoughts on how:

1. Against most teams, they play at a pace the other team can't keep up with, which leads to fatigue in the fourth quarter. Indy is still relatively fresh, ready to hit threes, and push, the other team is starting to short arm shots, struggling to keep up. This leads to Indiana consistently winning the last quarter, by a lot. Not necessarily the case against OKC, bc, they also play with pace.

2. Everyone on that team can shoot the 3. Everyone. They easily put five guys out there who can hit threes, including their bench.

3. The coaching staff adjusts in game. Like last night, Nembhard starting playing point instead of Haliburton late in the game, and it instantly changed things for the better.

4. No fear. They simply don't get tight. They certainly have bad plays, or even bad games (Game 3 Knicks), but they don't get tight at the end of the game, in fact, I'd be willing to bet they shoot a higher percentage the closer the game gets to the end.

5. Underrated defense. You don't turn the ball over 19 times in a half and only give up 9 pts off those turnovers unless your defense is really good. Yeah, Shea went nuclear, but no one else really did. Meanwhile look at their boxscore, like what five players in double figures, or six I think. The entire starting lineup plus Toppin.

Yeah. Seemed like they let Shea get his, up until crunch time, then they starting bringing more help and making others hit threes, but most of them they really hadn’t gotten into a rhythm.

Here's one for any fellow nerds.

IF the Pacers can prevail, I think they'd be the only franchise with both an ABA and NBA title. IIRC, the Nets would be the only franchise able to match that. The Spurs and Nuggets have NBA titles, but neither captured an ABA title.

......have a good evening.

What about Flint Tropics?
I think Jackie Moon would say Mega bowl > ABA championship.
