OT - Edey…

This is also the first time playing in some of these arenas so as time goes on his comfort level with everything will continue to increase. still has a high ceiling in the NBA if he can stay healthy.

Didn’t miss this:
Nice line for him last night. If he can consistently stay on the court for 20+ minutes and come close to a double double on high efficiency that’s a really nice rookie season.
for sure. It seems the grizz have him on a mins restriction or something. They’re still learning how to play with/use Zach.

I don't watch this stuff but I put some money on Edey to win ROTY so I've kind of been tracking his progress through box scores.

I've been surprised how they start him but then he gets limited minutes the rest of the game. If I am remembering correctly, only in the opener was he in foul trouble.

I have read that they are trying to play faster this season which probably isn't where he is going to shine and also makes me wonder why they drafted him so high if that was the plan.

The good news is he is currently second place in ROTY odds at +500. Some foreign player I've never heard of is first right now at +300 so nobody appears to got off to a great start. If Edey can rnd up getting 24+ mpg I think he can put up the stats to win the award.

It's a lot different going up against a starting caliber NBA center every night. He will figure it out, but it's also different when you're not just fed the ball on the block for a whole game. You don't have that kind of rhythm.

I think he’s been fine actually against centers (obviously the first game he found out how diff it was) and he’s been playing pretty well against guards when he switches. But it think the last part you mention is the key. They aren’t playing through him/dont fully understand how to use him. Not sure if they ever will but def agree on that last part you mention.

He was the #1 pick in the draft.

His names Jay Huff and he's playing very well.
Huff is a fourth year player out of UVA that is on a two-way contract from the G league and is currently splitting the minutes with Edey on the Griz.

Ryan Dunn on Phoenix, Jaylen Wells on the Grizzlies, and Jamal Shead on Toronto have probably been the best and most featured rookies so far. Edey is one of the very few that starts.

If Edey stops starting or his minutes go down below 15 per I'd expect him to get a little G League time so that he can play 25+ mpg. That's what the Warriors did with TJD during rookie season, and thereafter they had Trayce as a 20+ mpg starter by the end of that same season.
