OT: Auburn can’t count: burns redshirt accidentally

It’d be interesting if he decides to transfer to Purdue. Not sure if it’s likely at all, but it’d be interesting.

Seems like the coaches knew. The player definitely should have known. This doesn't seem like a mistake.

Sounds more like a miscommunication between the coaches, and the kid fell through the cracks. He was a 9-th ranked running back as a recruit. This shouldn’t happen. Feel sorry for the kid.

The mom says she informed one of the coaches before the Mississippi State game that he had already played in four games, they played him in that game and burned his shirt, then told the parents after the game they were still planning on redshirting him??? How does this happen???

That is what I mean by miscommunication; what one coach wanted with the kid was different from the other. But fundamentally they just didn’t pay enough attention to the kid’s need. What’s scary is that this kid was practically the jewel of their recruiting class, their version of Rondale Moore. I shudder to think what is happening to their other recruits.

He still has 3 years to become an NFL pro. I'll speculate it will happen. A running back at Auburn doesn't really need 4 years to prove his worth to the pros.

If that mom has her way and forces him to transfer elsewhere, he'll be sitting for a year which will impact his ascent to his $$$$$$$.

They might decide to play him a lot against us to gauge what they have for next season. Since his ‘shirt is gone, there’s really nothing to lose at this point...

Of course, if he is transferring, I am assuming his family would not allow him to play, because of the threat of getting hurt. He obviously would have a year to recover during the transfer year, if that were to happen, but I can't image that his family would want him to take the chance.

Yeah I absolutely agree. However, in the parents defense, if the coaches weren't even aware that playing him in that game would burn his redshirt than how can they trust those same coaches to get him ready for the NFL?

Something not said. The parents said he was transferring because he didn't get to be an immediate impact player as a freshman and was seldom utilized. Perhaps the coaches found out about his transfer plans and decided to stick it to him by playing him and taking away his red shirt year. This sounds exactly like something their coaching staff would do to a player they found out had intentions of transferring.

If he was planning to transfer it doesn’t matter. Either way he had to redshirt this year or next and will have three years eligibility. Him burning the shirt this year literally has zero impact since he is transferring.
