Opening line +14

Buckeyes aren't playing like the current #2 team and this could be a very close game. Their defense and running attack just don't resemble previous OSU powerhouses. Of course, they have the talent and depth to turn all of that around. Wouldn't sell Purdue short in this one especially a night, televised home game.

Scary line. Bigger than I expected, which normally means Vegas is right and the public is wrong.

IU's initially line was +27. We knew it would be initially double digits due to Ohio State more than like the #2 ranked team in the country when we play them.

Vegas is not always right.

If this were in Columbus it would be roughly 22. Home field is generally valued at 4 points in college.

I think Purdue will have a fighting chance. But, I think Purdue will have to come up with a few big plays. I don't think our guys can line up and win the line of scrimage consistently against OSU.

Fair question. Actually, "win the line of scrimmage" probably wasn't the best way to put it. What I should have said is that I don't think Purdue will win the majority of the plays. And I don't mean that as a knock on Purdue. Ohio State is a phenomenally talented team. I just think Purdue is going to have to come up with a few game changing plays in order to win.

14 points seems a bit much for the point spread. I was thinking it would be closer to 10 points. I think if we play solid and win the turnover battle we have a good shot! We of course have to be ready to play aggressive or the 14 point spread won't be enough. If the Purdue team that played this past Saturday shows up, I like our chances.

I don’t know... on defense we may not rush the passer well with four, but put guys are stout. I don’t see anyone pushing Lorenzo Neal around. Geo looks 6’5” 285. Watts has been very physical. And I think we have some nice blitzes dialed. On offense Edwards holds and generally isn’t good. Everyone else seems fine.

I didn't think I would have to break down the math. Johnny is correct. Home field is 4 points. I thought it was pretty straightforward.

In West Lafayette it's 14.
Neutral field is 18.
Columbus is 22.

It’s exactly what his post stated. How can one not assume the baseline as not being a neutral field, worth 0 points?

I haven't ever played the betting game and don't really understand the whole 'point spread' thing to be honest. I get that OSU is favored and the larger the deficit, the more likely OSU is to win....but once it was pointed out, it does make total sense. I appreciate it being pointed out.

we have to win the turnover battle.

We need to be about +4 there and get some fortuitous bounces as well to have a shot. Blough will need to be a rock star.

I'm surprised its only 14 points with as bad as our defense is. They must think we are going to score a lot and often, which I think we're going to have to do to have a chance.

Now if the defense has the game of their lives, then who knows we may shock the world.

I should have tried to predict the score, but I don't think I would have ever expected to win by 29 points. The team that whipped Illinois showed up and we really took it to them! I had a good feeling about this game, but I still was super nervous until about 5 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter! This wasn't just an upset win where we got lucky; we really beat them and took it to them. Great job everyone! Thoughts and prayers for Tyler, happy you and all of us got to witness a win for the ages! Boiler Up!
