I know the game this week is at Marshall. However, I want to take this opportunity to plead with the students to end the tradition of 1,2,3,4 First Down Bitch at home games. I don't care about the first part, but the last part shows a complete lack of class or dignity.

Before I get blasted, I think the IU Sucks thing is hilarious as do most fans from other schools whom I have sat next to during both football and basketball games. But the former is embarrassing and reflects poorly on you the students. Also the blow up marital aids are not in the least bit funny and also show something of a lower class mentality. I don't want you to grow up too fast, but please, do grow up enough to realize what is funny and what shows a complete lack of class.

Agree 100%. At best, it's highly sophomoric. At worst, it's offensive to people who don't use vulgar language and fails to promote a family-friendly environment.

Seconded. I thought it was funny when they started doing it in my mid/early twenties, then a few years go by and I hear how stupid it makes us sound.

However, I love the inflatible balloon thats been missing for a while, and hate the "IU Sucks".

From my seats across the field, the security/usher tracking down and removing the inflatable is usually pretty entertaining.

If it gets the students involved I'm all for it. Besides I doubt they're worrying about what some old geezer online has to say.

This looks even worse when the offense can't generate first downs and then the opposing offense pounds away for first down after first down. Hopefully, that happens less this year.

Agree Heller. I think the 1234 is rediculous. Particularly because it has been about ten years since we made anyone our B-----.

I didn't know it was an either/or situation. Completely agree, Heller.

I don't like the 'bitch' portion of the 1,2,3,4 chant either but I was stating what some clamor as awful and the worst thing is tame compared to other places around the country. It doesn't make it better but I gave an example of one that I've personally heard...even on TV.

Maybe try a letter to the exponent. You probably reached 5 students here.

The university really dropped the ball here. Trying to play the train horn over the B just made it more fun for them. They should have organized a student leadership group like many schools have, and gotten current coaches/prestigeous alumni to plead/discuss with them, and possibly purpose solutions. This would work.

Are you saying that the behavior doesn't bother you? For the record, I knew many students and recent alumni who think it's embarrassing. It has little to do with age. A 5 year old can show class and dignity, while some people in their 80's are still searching for it.

I think we live in a society where people take pleasure in being insulted and want to speak their mind about every little thing. The problem with that is everyone now is so numb to the constant ranting that when something that truly matters deserves a rant, a large portion of the population ignores it because they are tired of the societal bitchfest.

Thank you for what amounts to no more than gibberish. How is anything you said relevant? It isn't like some politically correct thing here, the idea of being someone's "bitch" is derived from prison slang. Hardly the place where I think a college graduate or hopeful college graduate wants to aspire to be upon graduation. And I'm not exactly "ranting", I'm simply saying it's time for this little tradition to be retired.

It's never really bothered me. I don't think a prospective employer has stayed away from Purdue because of this. Sometimes 19-22 year olds will act their age. Certainly having old people tell them to stop will not make them stop.

I would much rather a letter be written to the students imploring them to just show up at the games. Explain how big of an impact their presence can have on the team. Say they can get in on the ground floor, and by being part of a loud and rowdy student section, they'll be participating in something that a lot of us on here have done years and maybe decades ago.

Guys they are obviously saying Mitch. As in Mitch Daniels, the president of the university. Please get your mind out of the gutter
I find this funny because two years ago my group of friends designed a shirt that said exactly this! Also, I dont see the regular 1234 stopping anytime soon. The school sends out emails every year with no response. And the the student section committee doesn't want it to stop based on the emails I get from them.

I will try to find a picture of the shirt and post it on here.
